Steering problem #1

The contact owned a 2004 Volvo 780. While driving approximately 68 mph and attempting to pass a vehicle, the steering wheel did not respond. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle kept driving forward until it collided with a median and finally stopped. The entire driver side of the vehicle was damaged, including the driver side headlight and the bottom of the vehicle. There were no injuries reported. The police and fire departments arrived and a police report was filed. There were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to the police impound yard. The vehicle was not evaluated by the insurance company or manufacturer. The vehicle was destroyed. The approximate failure mileage was 81,707.

Steering problem #3

The contact owns a 2005 Volvo 780. The contact was traveling 65 mph when the steering went wheel became very loose and began to spin independently. The failure caused the contact to crash into a guardrail. The contact was reported injured and a police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a dealer and the contact was told that the drive link fractured and caused the crash. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages was 500,000.

The contact leased a 2009 Volvo 780. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the steering wheel became very difficult to turn. The contact tried to turn right and lost control. Roadside assistance came to change the drag links and the vehicle was taken to a local repair shoop where the front steering links, axle alignment and tires were replaced. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was unknown.

Steering problem #5

Unable to turn the steering wheel unless extra force is used. Must make 2 or 3 atemps to turn wheels inorder to park car vertically or make a u-turn. Very dangerous . It does not make any difference where on where I am, from an almost standing or very slow driving it is a major danger. Tcity street, driveway, highway the same thing happens even pulling into and our of diagnol parking spaces. I do not know how to do what you are asking. . . . . . . There was a recall on this problem sent to me but not the dealers. Before the local Volvo dealer would help I had to bring the notice I received they made adjustments reluctantly-this was at vovol of c learwater. - did not think it w real problem on 9/4/12. Help the safety factor is very real.

Steering problem #6

Facsimile from senator on behalf of constituent, regarding problems they experienced with their 2006 Volvo 780 truck. After leaving the dealership, the consumer discovered the steering wheel was broken. After having the steering wheel problem resolved, the truck broke down and would not start. On another occasion, the air bag deployed for no reason, the truck started to burn gas and the engine began to overheat. The consumer was informed the truck had an exhaust leak, the radiator, turbo and thermostat and the mechanic also attempted to fix the engine. The consumer stated Volvo exchanged the truck which was not equivalent to the truck they had.
