One problem related to mechanical jack has been reported for the 1996 Volvo 850. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
1996 Volvo 850 manufacturer's supplied tire jack is insufficient to lift car, extremely difficult to turn crank and is dangerous. Jack kept on slipping and finally collapsed. My knuckles were scraping concrete as I tried to turn the small crank.
