Volvo 850 owners have reported 9 problems related to tire (under the tire category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The tire dealer recommended michelin primacy mxv4 as a replacement tire for my 1997 Volvo 850 (normally aspirated) sedan. The michelin website described this tire as an "acceptable substitute" for the tires specified by Volvo because michelin no longer offers high performance tires in my size. Stopping power is much worse with these new michelin tires. They squeal easily, even at Volvo's highest recommended air pressure (36psi). I had difficulty stopping from 50mph in an emergency, for the first time in my 17 year ownership of this vehicle. I blame these new "comfort oriented" tires.

The contact owns four cooper zeon spt tires, size 205 55 r16. The contact was rotating the tires, when he noticed the front drivers side tire was bald. The tires were inspected and the contact was advised that the tires were down to the wear bar. The tires were not replaced. The tire manufacturer was notified of the failure. The current vehicle mileage was 100,00 and the approximate tire mileage was 8,000.

On February 9, 2008 I purchased at mavis tire four (4) new cooper zeon tires with a rating of 400 aaa. In lapproximately six thousand (6,000) I find one pair completely worn while the other set full thread. I called mavis tire and spoke with stu who said he is the manager. He suggested I come into the tire shop so he may inspect the tires. On March 2011, I drove to long beach, long island where the shop is located. Stu inspected the tires and agreed with me that something was defective with the two tires in question. Stu then told me he would check with his supervisor and get back to me. Stu then called me and told me to place a claim with cooper tires. I was also told their phone number was at their web site. I could not find a number to call but did find an place to submit an email. I explained the situation and this was the response: “cooper products are backed by a workmanship and materials warranty that our independent tire dealers administer on a regular basis. Any tire that is deemed to have an eligible adjustable condition as determined by one of our independent tire dealers shall be processed according to the terms of the cooper warranty program. Our independent tire dealers make the determination on what qualifies as an eligible adjustable condition, and handle all warranty returns. We offer mileage warranties on several tire models. We do not offer mileage on performance tires, which includes all zeon models. Pam consumer quality systems cooper tire & rubber CO. 800-854-6288 m-f 8-5 est. € I then place a call to stu and advised him of the situation. I never made a claim about mileage wear. There is approximately 6,000 miles on the tires in question. The must be a defect in these tires. A representative from mavis tire(david)has been in contact with me. There has not been any contact in over a week so it is time or me to address the situation. If I was not so fastedious in checking my vehicle I never would have known (or expected) these tires to fail.
The uniroyal factory representative that I recently spoke to by telephone was not concerned about the failure of all 4 of these tires that I purchased in may 1999. I felt that it was crucial to notify the NHTSA regarding my experience with these uniroyal tires, so that I may prevent a fellow citizen(s) from suffering from injury and/or death as a result of the failure of one of the same tires. On 12/18/99 we purchased 4 dunlop d60 a2 tires from the tiren farmingdale/howell NJ. They have a dunlop # of cr3651-2 and cr365 1-1 and cr2196-1. Today on the way to work my wife called me to say the tire was making a thumping noise. She stopped to look at it and saw a piece of tire missing. I sent her to sears to buy a replacement tire and when she got to sears, the worker showed her the other tire was separating. In April I replaced one of the tires cause it had a nail in the side wall and a piece of rubber was missing. I thought it was just a road hazzard. Now I realize the tires are defected since all remaining three are separating. I will notify tire farm but I thought you should be aware of this. Thank god my wife was not hurt. All the tires have dot dbv9 ca8 and the numbers (348) (208) (208) and (e11) 022682 they also have po51d3-b on the tires in fact the replacement tire I bought at sears is the same dot # they all have 01 08 40 on the tires. The one from sears has not separated yet!!! when we put the tires on we had 86,000 miles on the car now it is 129,000. Not this is all highway miles and the tread ware is small. Do you want me to save the tires for you? please let me know. Thank you and look into this before someone gets hurt. (dot number: dbv9 ca8 tiresize: p195/60r15).
This is my second Volvo 850 s/w and I had the same problem with the prior 1995 model. Both vehicles have low profile, high performance wheels and tires which fail on the pothole roads. The failure is a saftey hazard.
