The sun visors in my car have failed multiple times, typically through breakage of the plastic pivot shaft. This makes it difficult to move the visor to the down position, and can prevent the driver from reducing glare when driving into the sun. This is a safety hazard issue. Further, the shaft breakage usually causes wiring shorts that can discharge the battery, or at the very least render the mirror lights inoperative. I have had repairs made by the dealer, but the replacement parts have failed as, or even more quickly in some cases than the originals.

I have a 2000 Volvo C70 convertible and have just had a visor break for the fourth time. These visors are attached at both ends and don't "swing" out, they simply fold down. But four times now - two on the driver's side and two on the passenger's side - the medial (toward the rear-view mirror) pin has sheared. This can cause the visor to hang down and obstruct the driver's view and potentially cause an accident. One time I had to rubberband the visor to keep it from obstructing my view!.
