While waiting stopped at the parking lot stop sign about to enter road traffic a sound resembling an uncoiling spring was detected and the seat belt tension let go and the belt went slack onto my lap. There car was not in motion while this event occurred.

2 Seat Belt problem

The contact owns a 2002 Volvo S60. The contact stated that the front and rear passenger side seat belts failed to operate by not retracting. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis where it was stated to the contact that the seat belt assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 106,000. The VIN was not available.

3 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2008

The front passenger seatbelt retracted and would not move to engage the passenger. It was stuck in place. The dealer examined it and said it was not possible to fix because it is a 'closed system' and would need to be replaced. They would charge over $650 to replace it for parts and labor.
