Automatic Transmission Column Shift problems of the 2006 Volvo S60

My 2006 Volvo S60 gets stuck in park. I properly start the vehicle, apply the brake and attempt to move the shifter out of park and it won't budge. My vehicle is still under warranty and was towed to a dealership where I was told I must have "wasted something sticky in the gear shaft". They never took anything apart or inspected the vehicle before making this determination. The vehicle will eventually come out of park after about 30 minutes of trying to shift the gear. Once driving, the shifter can easily be moved to park, reverse, neutral, etc. While being driven!!!.
