The child safety lock is not engaged. The door latches on the rear right passenger door in my car has failed. It fails to unlock when from the inside. In an emergency situation. Passengers won't be able to exit the vehicle quickly. The problem can be reproduced and there are current door latch recalls in other models but it needs to extend out these models too. It has not been inspected by police but. Again there is a recall for similar models. The recall should extend out to these models. No warning signs.

The driver door won't lock. The latch on the door is not locking causing the driver door to remain open presenting a safety issue. If the door swings opened because it is not closed properly a accident could occur. Other vehicles in that are the same make, model, and year is under recall. The problem first occurred on Saturday, may 7, 2022. I was driving the vehicle and there was no warning that the door latch had a problem. The door came opened while driving. The vehicle was towed to southwest Volvo sevice department and it is determined that the door latch needs to be repaired.
Ran into a pole due to a-pillar blind spot, right side of vehicle. No warnings prior to incident.
Recall notice on 11/2019 to replace all doors due to a safety issue (recall #: r89978: door latches). Recently on 12/1/2019, 12/23/2019 and 1/5/2020 I noticed that my rear right door slightly opened while city driving in suburban neighborhood (lots of stops) and the door signal did not indicate. They did not fully open but the latch seems to have an issue. Have been reaching out to service and Volvo does not have the parts needed.

My son was in a side impact collision on the passenger side of his 2004 Volvo S60. He was in a rural area and either didn't see the oncoming car or missed his stop sign and the oncoming driver was unable to stop. The other driver is uninjured but my son in severely injured with a grade 3 dai head injury. He was wearing his seat belt. The side airbags deployed but not the one in the steering wheel. In an email Volvo told me this is how the airbags are designed and that the driver airbags will not deploy on side impact. If that is correct information, this needs to change. The only significant injury my son has is where his head hit the steering wheel, if that airbag had deployed his injuries would have potentially been much less. The airbags are already there, I don't understand why they can't just deploy on any significant impact. I will include pictures.

Significant issues with exterior body paint, complained to Volvo and showed it to dealer as per their advise, dealer agreed that this should not be there with limited miles and mainly local driving with this car. Scratches all over the body and this was there with in 4 years of car and I have tried detailing the car multiple times with no help to remove scratches. While at dealership, ran in to dealer employee and another customer with similar issue for 2012 Volvo S60. Volvo refuses to address this issue saying it's outside warranty. Dealership took pictures and agreed that this is due to some underlying paint issues, they wouldn't put it in writing and let Volvo manage the complaint. Need some help to address this issue as it is more widespread than Volvo admits. I just need paint replacement and not expecting any financial compensation. Attaching pictures and can provide more if necessary (reflection due to light, please zoom in and you will see the 2 inches long streaks and white speckles all over). Complaint number with Volvo USA -id#200417-000663.
Interior adhesive chrome trim delaminating and very sharp causing a cut hand on the steering wheel and center console.
I received two safety recall notices (March and April) for recall r89978. "the door latches can weaken making it difficult to latch the door or worse drive the car believing that the door is securely closed when it's not. " in the Volvo recall letter, it states to call the dealer to schedule the repair at no cost. It's almost June and my dealer has not received the parts from Volvo. They have no idea when they'll receive parts from Volvo. This is the only car I have access to and I don't feel safe.

The manufacturer has not corrected a known recall. Nor have I received an update. The recall notices state there is not yet parts available to correct it. But according to the NHTSA web site VIN look-up, the recall is listed as recall incomplete . When if there is no fix available it should be listed as recall incomplete. Remedy not yet available . We have received recall notifications, the first attachment. We have not received a follow-up notification for either recall notices. In the one for NHTSA recall 19v849 (recall r89978: door latches) states: "unfortunately at this time, replacement parts are not available for this repair. Please be assured that Volvo is working to secure the needed replacement door latches as soon as possible. We will send you a second notification letter as soon as the replacement door latches are available. " my problem is that I am a u. S. Government civilian employee preparing to relocate from italy to the u. S. I shipped this car to italy from the u. S. In November 2018. The shipping company will not ship a car with an open recall. I need something in writing that accurately reflects the recall status; "recall incomplete" or "recall incomplete. Remedy not yet available"?.

Drivers side rear door disengaged while turning onto the highway access rode with passengers in the back, the rear passenger nearly fell out of the car. The door no longer latches which creates a huge safety concern, making me unable to safely operate the vehicle.
The front passenger door openned while vehicle was in operation due to defective sensor in the door locking system.
While driving on a highway at 65 mph (the legal limit) at approximately 6:55 am on 2 July 2018, I was two or more car lengths behind the car ahead of me when the sun roof catastrophically shattered. No road debris was observed and the road was dry and not in a construction zone. With the sudden exploding sound, I didn't know what was going on but was able to maintain control of the car. I was ducking down reflexively as the noise was above my head. Fortunately, the interior sun roof shade was closed and the sun roof was closed. In my rearview mirror, I saw the car directly behind braking hard and the cars in the next lane slowing down to avoid the debris I later realized was the ejected glass from my sun roof. The noise continued and then the glass began falling into the front area of the car through the vents in the sun shade and I finally realized the sun roof glass had shattered. The car is maintained in excellent condition and there were no signs of chipping, cracks or other damage to the sun roof prior to the incident. There were also no signs on the car's hood, windshield, or roof that shows debris impacted the car and caused the failure.
My vehicle was parked in a grocery store lot. I entered the vehicle to back it out of its parking spot. It was next to a full sized van which had carpet cleaning equipment mounted inside. I started the car and placed it in reverse as it began to accelerate on its own. I tried to slow the vehicle with the brake which failed. I collided with a block wall in the rear of the car and attempted to get it out of gear, with the solid jarring from the rear the car went into drive and continued to accelerate to full speed, while I was attempting to brake. The Volvo hit the van which it had been parked next to in the rear left bumper and drove it approximately 20 feet through a planter and into a parking spot on the other side of the planter. This car (Volvo) is equipped with a collision warning system that was supposed to have auto braked and did not. Additionally the air bags did not deploy. I took the car to Volvo and had them attempt to pull codes from the vehicles information system. They reported that no codes were present and attempted to explain away the incident as driver error. The car was totaled in the process. I am certain that there was no driver error and that what happened was a sudden unexplained acceleration. Other somewhat similar incidents are reported on the internet. The car has been retained in my possession until Mar 9th 2017. In the event it should be evaluated I have it available.
2015. 5 Volvo S60 t5 drive-e, less than 13k miles. Both the left and right front fender surfaces, just behind the front headlights, are extremely hot to touch after normal driving. Bending down to look under the car, I had put my hand above the front wheel and noticed the fender area was extremely hot to the touch. The car had been driven normally and was in my garage at the time; the car was not in the hot sun. The ambient temp was approx. 78f. Using a hand held non-contact thermometer, the front fender surface temperature behind the front headlights was measured - it approached 140f at both fender surfaces. Since these front fenders are readily accessible by small children, these surfaces can be potentially dangerous for some time after the engine has been shut off. As noted in astm c1055, short duration bodily contact at 140f could be potentially dangerous causing 1st degree burns. When one opens the engine hood, it appears the hot fender surfaces are the result of vehicle design. A black metallic upper body brace connects the hot radiator to the left and right fender areas. Based on this observation, one can only assume all 2015. 5 Volvo S60's have this issue and should be easy to investigate/verify. I don't believe the temp I observed (140f) accounts for worst case scenarios, such as undetected engine faults (excessive eng temps). Undetected faults could create significantly higher fender surface temps. No warnings of hot fender surface temps were found in the 2015. 5 S60 operating manual, nor were there any stickers in the car noting such. Nhtsa website indicated that the manufacturer had noted excessive turbo coolant hose temps. Since this appears to be a design issue associated with the car itself and this is a potential burn issue for unsuspecting small children, this complaint should be investigated immediately.
Rear passenger side door will not open from inside if car is locked or has just been unlocked. It will only open from the inside if the outside handle has been pulled and the car has not been locked since. The door lock actuator was replaced in August 2014, but the problem continues to occur.

I was driving 35-40 mph when a vehicle 2 cars ahead of me had to make a quick stop. I did not see this happen in time, slammed on my brakes and consequently smashed into the back of the car in front of me, who then hit the car in front of him. I totaled my car. The passenger air bag deployed and filled my car with smoke (or whatever that is) however, the driver air bag did not deploy. I was rushed to a trauma center and my injuries include my back, neck and I lost a tooth from my face hitting the steering wheel. My chest and legs are covered in bruises from the seat belt. I am very lucky, however I do not like to think of what could have occurred if I was at a high speed and on the fwy. And the air bag did not deploy because it was defective, and perhaps it was not designed to go off in this particular incident? I hit head on, no logical reason to think the passenger airbag going off as it did, but not mine or driver side.
On August 24, 2013, I was involved in a car accident. A car stopped short on the highway. The car in front of me hit that car. I then hit the car in front of me. I had only a few seconds to react. Another car then re-ended me. My airbag nor seatbelt pretentioners deployed. I had difficulty turning the car off. The car was totaled. Within a few weeks of the incident, I reported the matter to Volvo. They sent an investigator out. Volvo claims that sensors were not activated since the damage was above them, and there was not any problem. However, at the speed I hit, there is no excuse for why the airbags should not have deployed. Either the car is designed improperly in terms of where the sensors are placed or there is a manufacturing defect. As I understand it, other S60s (not my vid#) have been recalled for an electrical problem that could cause airbags not to deploy.
Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Volvo S60. The contact stated that someone was able to kick in the side collision protection bar on the driver's side door. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the protection bar needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 16,000. Ne.
Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Volvo S60. The contact stated that the aluminum on the steering wheel became detached. The contact sustained lacerations to the hands as a result. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 21,700. Kmj.
There were four occupants in the vehicle. As we were driving home from the mall, we noticed a brief interruption in the lights and radio. A few miles down the road, there was an electrical failure and the car shut off in the middle of the road, but we were able to get it cranked back up in less than a minute. We drove approximately two more miles and pulled into our driveway and shut the car off. We heard a sound like an alarm, but it was so faint; before we had time to think about it further, the cab began to fill with blackish grey smoke into the backseat area. We all got out quickly and walked to the back of the car. I noticed flames behind the driver side tail light (where the battery is located) and told my husband. He opened the trunk (burning his fingertips), and flames shot up into the air. I immediately called 911 because the flames were high and fast-moving. The 911 dispatcher instructed us to stay away from the car and not try to put the fire out due to the obvious dangers of a fast-moving car fire. The fire department arrived within five minutes and began putting the fire out; however, the car was a total loss up to the engine, which was not burned. After inspection, the fire department deemed it a loss due to an electrical fire. I have contacted Volvo, but they have not responded to me as of yet. There have been several recalls on this particular vehicle, and we are worried that Volvo may have missed one. For the safety of others, I am reporting this safety hazard. The car remains in our driveway awaiting insurance adjustment; however, I am hopeful that either Volvo or someone who does safety inspections would claim the car to investigate the cause of the fire further.

The contact stated there was not enough room between the floor and bottom of the dashboard. There was no way that the contact's husband could get foot to the brake. This almost caused several accidents. There is only 11 inches between the floor and the dashboard . Updated 1/19/2006 - there is little clearance between the pedals and the underside of the dash which resulted in the consumer shoe hitting the underside of the dash limiting his ability to move his foot between the brake pedal and accelerator pedal.
