Driver side, rear child seat anchor was not installed correctly. The anchor was not attached to the frame. Our child's car seat would latch to it, but after 2 years of son riding in seat, we were moving the seat to other side to accommodate a 2nd seat and anchor came out with car seat. Volvo admitted manufacture mistake, but refused to certify safety of vehicle or buy vehicle back at blue book. Tracy faber at Volvo cars USA was lead and detailed letter was faxed to her in January 2013. Anyone with a Volvo needs to check security of child anchors. I sold car to a dealer under full disclosure as could not verify safety of child seat anchors and a vehicle without anchors was worthless to me. Took a large financial loss all based on Volvo's mistake. Will never buy a Volvo or Ford product ever again base don this issue. We were original owners and will gladly share our experience with anyone that has had a similar experience!.

My two-year-old son rides rear-facing in his sunshine kids radian xtsl, installed with superlatch and the rear-facing tether. I am a certified child passenger safety technician, so I know the installation was correct. When my son places his foot on the tilt lock mechanism of the superlatch, it significantly loosens it. It loosens it so much that the child restraint moves more than 1" from side-to-side and front/back. He did this while we were driving. When I had initially placed him in his child restraint, there was a tight installation (I always check), but when we arrived at our destination, it was very loose when I took him out. That's when I noticed that how he puts his foot on the tilt lock mechanism. If we had been in a motor vehicle collision during this time, there is a great chance that he could have been seriously injured or died. I immediately contacted sunshine kids via email. Their representative was quick to respond to me and they sent me a replacement superlatch. I have not had any problems with the new superlatch. The representative told me that there have been several reports made about this issue, but that sunshine kids has not been able to "replicate this issue" in their "extensive testing. " she said that the new radians made after February 2011 are equipped with the new updated superlatch. They have added a retainer clip to all tilt lock mechanisms on the superlatch which changes the release angle and prevents any loosening. They also offer the updated tilt lock mechanism to any customer who has a concern about their superlatch. I feel that there should be a recall, because there may be many customers who are unaware of this defect. Even if the installation is correct when you place your child in the child restraint, the loosening can occur, unknowingly, while you are driving and poses serious risk to passengers. In regard to a 2004 S60 Volvo 2. 5 awd-t we noticed a seat belt problem with the back seat center seat belt. We secured our infant car seat base with the center seat belt, and have been doing so since she was born. The local police station had a service that demonstrated proper installation and insured we were able to do it ourselves. The officer then installed it for us with no problem. Today we noticed the base was really loose! I tried to reinstall the seat by attaching it to the seat belt in the usual fashion. However, I discovered that the seat belt did not hold the base tightly as it did before!!!
in summary- normal use led up to the failure of the three point safety belt in the rear center seat position to properly hold the base of an infant car seat safely. We are going to call the dealer first thing in the morning and have it fixed.
