Unknown Or Other problem #1

The car suddenly lost power and began to slow down. The check engine light came on. I was unable to drive it and had to have it towed to a repair shop. However, no codes are coming up. They see no issue with the car.

Unknown Or Other problem #2

I was stopped at stop light waiting to turn left. Upon light turning green, I accelerated to turn left. Car, without warning, lost acceleration, steering, and braking as if in limp home mode. I was able to pull the car over to the side of the road. I then put car in park and turned off engine. Car started back up and drove without incident. There were no indicator lights. Took car to local garage and no codes came up. Then again on March 23, 2011 car again lost all acceleration and steering. This time the car was being driven approximately 40 mph. No warning indicators were lit. Put car into park and it started without incident. Took car to dealer on March 25, 2011. The dealer said no codes came up and they were having trouble diagnosing the failure. After 4 days they called to tell me it could be the mass air flow sensor and throttle body needed to be cleaned (cost $660). However, they could not say for sure if this was the cause of the failure. I am getting the suggested repairs done. However after reading the numerous complaints describing this same failure, I feel very uneasy about driving my car. Volvo needs to address these numerous complaints as this is a major safety concern. I drive my car with two small kids in the back seat everyday. I am terrified this failure will happen again. There was a recall on my model and year car for this type of failure, however my VIN is not included.

Unknown Or Other problem #3

VIN: yv1rh58d022103036. While starting the car the last week the "engine check and service engine " warning lights lit up. I had it checked and found out the etm (electronic throttle module) is faulty. Called Volvo USA and informed them of the problem but they told me my car, which is a turbo, is not part of their recall. If this type of problem is common to 360,000 Volvos and warranty extended to 200,00 miles or 10 years why then are they (Volvo) refusing to fix my etm problem. Since my car is experiencing the same etm malfunction, prior to their extended warranty expires, I would like to have my car be part of the Volvo recall before serious consequence happens. So far nothing has been done with the problem. The warning light "engine checks and service engine" continue to lit up uninterrupted whenever the engine is running.

Unknown Or Other problem #4

Two malfunctions exist with the 2002 Volvo S60. The first one is a faulty driver's information module defect that causes a total malfunction of the entire dashboard. Specifically, the dashboard goes completely blank while driving and all of the gauges become inoperable, including the speedometer. Therefore, preventing the driver from being able to control or monitor the vehicle's speed. The second malfunction is the front and rear heated 02 oxygen sensors. These manufacture defects have a potential to cause a very serious accident. The driver's information module and the 02 sensors were mandatory components that were required to be replaced as opposed to repaired.

Unknown Or Other problem #5

My climate control module computer turns off my a/c for no reason when I turn on the a/c it happens when it is very hot outside. I have had to make numerous trips to the Volvo dealership to have software updated which did not cost anything. When the ccm first started doing this Volvo of dallas thought it was my a/c compressor and I spent $1,200 on a new a/c compressor hoping that would fix my problem. It did not fix the problem and the result is I get very hot in my car when it turns off while im driving and I have to keep fiddling with it while driving to make it stay on.

Unknown Or Other problem #6

On 12 Dec, 2008, my 2003 Volvo S60 stalled with no warning while traveling on a busy highway at 60 mph. I pulled to safety (vehicle was in "limp home" mode) and had the vehicle towed to the dealership (park place Volvo). Since the vehicle started right back up and presented no codes, I was told there was nothing wrong and given a bill for $418 (for tow and diagnostic check). Approx. 1 month later, vehicle presented same problem; it stalled, without warning, while driving. . . Creating a great safety risk for the second time. I had vehicle towed again to same dealership, and since vehicle started right back up with no codes, I was told there was nothing wrong. Dealership could not get vehicle to duplicate problem on either occasion. However, to appease me, dealership did replace accelerator pedal. . . Vehicle still presents same stalling issue, and intermittently goes into "limp home" mode for no apparent reason. This will undoubtedly cause a serious accident, as it is obvious, from the numerous complaints on this issue, that this is a mass defect.

Unknown Or Other problem #7

I have had to replace the engine cooling system (radiator) twice for this car in less than 66k. While you are driving, the warning "stop car immediately coolant low" comes on. Volvo has changed the supplier for this part, which tells me they know it is a problem. Not only is this scary, but the cost to replace (with labor) is over $1,300. I think this is both a hazard for the driver, other drivers (if you need to pull over quickly and stop your engine) as well as an unnecessary cost. As a consumer who has tolerated enough corporate abuse (banks, wall street, car bailouts) I am hopeful that the NHTSA will look into this issue and require that Volvo stand behind the quality of the cars they make and sell.

Unknown Or Other problem #8

I own a 2001 Volvo S60 2. 4t. I have lately noticed a strong gasoline odor on the passenger side of the vehicle. I have taken the vehicle to the dealer and they tell me the gasoline pump needs to be replaced because there is a plastic cap the joins the pump to the gas tank that is cracked and that is causing gasoline to leak. I have researched with several service shops, and they tell me they have seen many occurrences with these model for that problem, which for a 5 year old car seems unacceptable. It is a very expensive part and labor and it seems it all caused because of a defective plastic "cap" that joins the pump to the tank. I had the dealer replace the part, but seems to me this is a major problem that should be covered by a manufacturer's recall. Also, the car has plastic or fiberglass molding that run on top between the doors and ceiling that have built up a lot of rust, which again the dealer states are not covered under any warranty, but again, for a 5 year old car seems unacceptable.

Unknown Or Other problem #9

This is the second serious incident record. Please reference odi number 10134007; that documented the first incident.

Unknown Or Other problem #10

My 2001 S60 2. 4t Volvo sedan has had numerous error messages displayed over the 4 years I have owned it. Most times there was no problem in driving the vehicle until I could safely pull over. The "fix" for the error message was to shut off the engine, sit for a moment and restart. On two other frightful occasions, however, I lost steering assist and acceleration. Both times I was on busy interstate highways and feared for my life as my car limped toward the breakdown lane. It appears that I have been extremely fortunate in that both times the car lost power and control that it started up again. I will be submitting 2 accounts online. My repair garage confirmed yesterday that there are a significant number of error messages caused by the "throttle control" and that I have to take the car back to the original dealer. I have my appointment for September 6 and was given an estimate of $900 to replace the electronic throttle control. It is not under warranty.

Unknown Or Other problem #11

The consumer states that 2003 Volvo S60 has an inability to stop in reverse . The brakes failed and the car accelerated in reverse. This occurred after the car started and sputtered. The consumer took the car to the dealer, and they said it was a software problem, the software was updated. But the car was still doing this. The consumer has not called the manufacturer. The software was the only thing mentioned as being the problem with the car. The car has been doing this for about 2 years. Lately, the car has been doing this more frequently.
