Warnings Problems of Volvo S60

When my son got a car last December, we bought him a 2024 Volvo S60, primarily for the safety features. Since we have had the vehicle, Volvo has had a lot of issues with their infotainment system. He has contacted them many times and I had started to keep a record of how often it would glitch. If it was just music not working, no big deal. But sometimes it was the backup camera too and once the heat. He recently had a car accident. He is okay (of course shaken up) but it was a bad situation. A van had dropped a lot of items. Plumbing and metal shelving. There was a pick up who was trying to avoid it. My son tried to avoid the pick up unsuccessfully but partially because his wheels landed on metal shelving and he was sliding on the road. The accident report captured this. His car was totaled. The purpose of this email is that the car was totaled, as even though he was braking as hard as he could, his tire was sliding on that shelving so he did have quite a hard impact. Not one safety feature worked on this vehicle, not the sos, not the forward, not the airbags. My intuition is telling me it's all related to these many issues with the electronics in this car (recharge models have had this issue and been recalled). Before they dispose of the vehicle I wanted to consult with an attorney to see if we have any recourse with Volvo, especially because safety is why we bought the car. It is currently at the body shop. The infotainment has had an issue forever.

City safety is randomly malfunctioning. Vehicle will aggressively apply brakes when there are no objects in front of the vehicle. This has happened in town and on a long driveway.

Automatic intervention collision avoidance system activated unnecessarily and unexpectedly during a freeway exit. There were no cars ahead within a reasonable distance, but there was a car in the adjacent lane of a “dual” parallel exit lane on the freeway. There was a solid white line between vehicles and the system seemed to interpret both vehicles exiting the freeway simultaneously as a “near collision” when in fact we were both operating correctly. I did not notice any intrusion or movement of the adjacent vehicle into our lane. The response from the vehicle was a sudden and violent movement of the steering wheel to the left and I believe application of the brakes although I am not certain of that. This event occurred in the southbound lanes of north central expressway near meadow park drive. The exit, I believe, is for northwest highway/caruth haven. This was a rental vehicle.

I was driving in the right hand lane on a two lane road where the speed limit is 30mph. While the road was curving to the left slightly the vehicle's collision avoidance system was triggered and swerved the car into the left lane towards on coming traffic and cutting off a car behind me. The road was completely empty in front of me. It created a dangerous situation for no reason. I have dashcam footage that captured the moment the car intervened that I can provide if requested, I'm unable to upload video on this portal.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? the front warning collision comes on when a car is not even close. Engine, a part in the engine area has been replaced twice. Transmission, not shifting properly when 2/3. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? the unit will try to brake. The check engine light has come on more than once. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes and no. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? yes by a Volvo dealer. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem before the failure, and when did they first appear? yes, transmission service and check engine light. Also red warning light appears on the window.

City safety feature is triggering on intermittently with no reason to trigger. It occurs when initially accelerating. City safety applies the brakes and stops the car violently. Occurs when light or dark. Has occurred several times within the past week. The feature can be manually turned off and now is with every ignition start. The default is for the feature be on, so turning off is required every time the car is turned on.

Windshield separating from the car at the top. Potentially hazardous from water running down the inside of the windshield that can not be cleared except by hand while driving. Also likely to cause water damage to the interior of the car!.
