One problem related to brake disc pads has been reported for the 1998 Volvo S70. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
During braking at slow speeds intermittently there is a loud pop. Then, pedal goes to floor, resulting in extended stopping distance. Vehicle taken to dealer 8-9 times. Replaced brake pads twice, found lots of black dust, but stated that was normal. Problem not remedied.
