Latches/locks/linkage Problems of Volvo S70

Power door locks, when you lock the door, you can still open it from the outside. Somebody can come right up to your door while you are driving or parked, and open the door even when it is locked. 3 of my 4 doors do this. I have to keep replacing them at $140. 00 a piece.

Yesterday I parked my 1999 Volvo in a store parking lot, and when I pulled the driver's side door handle to open the door it did not work. I was also unable to open the door manually with a key. While this did not result in a death, it is certainly a safety issue and could potentially have been very serious. It cost me over $500 to have the lock fixed; in response to my husband's question as to what precisely caused the problem, the automotive tech's explanation was "lock failure. " I called Volvo to register a complaint, and was dismissed with "the car is out of warranty and it isn't Volvo's responsibility. " I contend that under no circumstances should someone be unable to exit a vehicle due to "lock" failure. If electronics fail, the door should be able to be opened manually with a key. Had a fire or accident occurred and I needed to exit the vehicle quickly, I would have been trapped. This is unconscionable.

The contact owns a 2000 Volvo S70. The contact stated that in conditions over 100 degrees, the key fob will not unlock the doors to the vehicle. He would have to manually open the doors. When the failure occurs while the contact is sitting in the front seat, he cannot open the rear doors because the rear power door locks also fail. The dealer recommended replacing the auto window control and locks on all three doors. The driver side door lock failed previously. The vehicle was taken to the service dealer who replaced the auto window controls and lock to remedy the problem. There were no warning indicators prior to the lock failure.

The passenger side front door locking mechanism failed. I can no longer unlock the car using the key fob or the interior unlock button, I must reach over and pull the door handle to open the door from the inside.
