Power Steering Fluid Problems of Volvo S80

The last time I had the car serviced the representative at the dealership said that there were issues with the power steering reservior. He said that they had apparently made it of the wrong plastic and when it heats it expands and will leak fluid, possiblly failing. I don't know what the result would be with the steering if this happened. He said that the item would be the owners responsibility to replace and they were not recalling or replacing them.

Whilie traveling to illinois from kansas, the power steering on my 2000 Volvo S80 suddenly gave out. I stopped at the first available exit and checked the fluid level, which was empty. I then added 24 FL. Oz. Of power steering fluid and that corrected the problem for about 5-10 minutes. I ended up driving the remainder of the trip with no power steering. It appears that the leak is coming from the area of the power steering servo located at the lower end of the steering wheel rod. Car was taken in today to the shop for repairs. The car has 34,000 miles on it, and is in prestine condition otherwise. I have seen other complaints regarding the same problem and I feel that a recall is certainly in order.

While driving the steering wheel locked up. The driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle and unlocked the steering. He drove the vehicle to the dealer for analysis. The mechanic noticed that the steering fluid was leaking from under the hood. The driver stated that the vehicle has been at the dealer for three months. The mechanic is waiting for a steering rod. . The power steering makes a very loud groaning noise all of the time. I am concerned that there could be a steering failure. The dealer has checked this complaint a many times dating back to 2002 and found no problems and said the power steering fluid was normal and not leaking. Problem is getting worse.
