Vehicle Speed Control problem #1

At the end of a downhill cloverleaf coming coming on and off a highway, the car slowed to a crawl but would not stop. It was going slowly as if "creeping" like when in b mode but was not in b mode. The brakes would not stop it. I was able to shift gears from drive to n to p but no response, car continued to creep forward until it gently bumped into the back of an 18 wheeler. There was no collision alarm at the time. I turned the car on and off, and powering down seemed to re set the issue, but the collision alarm went off like 10 minutes later when there was nothing to set it off (seemed like it was just delayed). No error code came up, nothing. I submitted my claim to Volvo, esp since there are similar recalls so I thought it was a known thing, but apparently not reported on my exact make and model (there were not very many made). I did not know there was damage to my vehicle, and the truck driver and myself did not even get out, he didn't feel me, and I assumed the bumper just bumped him so no police report. This was an intermittant failure and after I re booted the vehicle I slowly drove home after brakes seemed to be working after power on/off. I did not know that it was my hood that bumped the truck. I did not know there was damage until I got home. If this car's make and model were not included in the recall, they should be. Terrifying. And Volvo did not acknowledge or reassure. Requested documentation on what they inspected, and did not receive.

Vehicle Speed Control problem #2

While driving on crowded i40 near statesville nc, the engine started to stutter and moments later quit entirely. Fortunately we were able to move to the shoulder with only a few seconds to spare. This was very dangerous as we had to move through the right lane in front of speeding semi trucks. The only warning light received was that there was an engine problem, that the car would go into “safe” mode. This was mere seconds before entirely disabling the engine. Had we come to a halt on the highway there would have been a serious accident and injury to ourselves and most likely others. We contacted Volvo, a tow was dispatched and the car was winched on to a flat bed trailer and we were transported to a dealer in hickory. Later it was confirmed that the integrated starter general (isg) had failed and that power had been interrupted to the hybrid battery. There is a serious problem here and I suspect may impact other “mild hybrid” systems that install integrated alternator/starter motor systems between the engine and transmission.

Vehicle Speed Control problem #3

Case number 240821-000271 was opened on 8/21/24 with Volvo car USA support. I have three main concerns: 1) the infotainment system losing the favorites that I have saved in the sirius application. This had been an intermittent problem that I had been having since I purchased the car. I finally took it into the service department at Volvo cars of gilbert on 1/7/23 for this problem (invoice number vocs110975). The service department was unable to recreate the problem so they did nothing. 2)a complete car system reboot while I was driving on 6/10/24. As I was driving down the road the hvac system shut off and the dash and infotainment system screens went blank. All car systems completely shut down except the engine. This was an extremely frightening experience as all of this happened with no warning whatsoever while I was driving. This is a huge safety issue! within about a minute of driving like this the systems started to come back up. I proceeded home. The next morning I took the car to Volvo cars of gilbert again. They had the car for 5 days and performed a software update on the ihu (infotainment head unit) (invoice number vocs120164). 3)the failure of the infotainment system to update after starting the car and driving. This happened on 8/7/24 and I took the car directly to Volvo cars of gilbert again. The infotainment system was stuck on “infotainment system starting…” for the entire 12-minute drive to Volvo. Volvo cars of gilbert had my car for 8 days this time and this time they did a reload to the existing ihu (invoice number vocs121204). I asked that they replace the ihu. Volvo refused to replace the ihu because it was too expensive at $3200. Also, the problem of the infotainment system losing its radio favorites has become much worse. It happens daily now. I believe there is an opportunity for a catastrophic event to happen while I am driving if this ihu problem is not corrected immediately.

Vehicle Speed Control problem #4

I purchased the car in April 2022. Did not have any issues until February 2023. Initially, the engine light came on with a turtle icon in the dash screen. I was driving and the car would not go over 45 mph. On a busy street . The car was hesitating badly and also said something about the propulsion? Volvo ontario towed it from my business and supposedly fixed it. Fast forward the following week, engine light came. Back to dealer, who said the software at that time was not available and it was a recall. A few days later they said they were disconnecting the engine light until new update was available. Back to dealer with update now installed, supposedly this would fix all the engine issues. A few days later, 3/7 I got into car and started it . This mesage came on, "slow down, the vehicle will reduce speed. Propulsion system failure", followed by ,"propulsion system service required" with yellow engine light on. Backed out of the driveway and the car started vibrating and shaking violently. Currently waiting on Volvo for next steps. I am so dissapointed with this car and it is a huge concern for safety. I purchased this car because of their reputation for safety.

Vehicle Speed Control problem #5

The screen does not come on, so no heat, no safety stuff, no reverse camera and no sensors. All the above adas features do not work either. This is definitely a safety hazard, which I think traces back to the vehicle operating system. Details reported to Volvo in this tweet--> https://twitter.
