My engine oil light came on recently so I took my car to the auto service center to check. The auto repair staff performed and inspection and found excessive oil consumption stemming from a defect in the pistons, piston rings and piston heads. They gave me a copy of quality bulletin from Volvo regarding the extended warranty p10207: vep4 oil consumption test; model year 2015-2016. Volvo provided an extended warranty for this defect but never informed me of the defect. Initially, Volvo said they would provide coverage for 10 years which would have covered my vehicle but Volvo decreased the period of coverage to October 2024. Now Volvo won't pay for the repairs which are estimated at $10,000. It should have been a recall, according to the auto service center. Apparently, auto companies don't like recalls due to the negative publicity. Instead the auto manufacturers provide so-called warranties for defects of automobiles for a limited time period. Had I I would have taken my car to the dealer for repair if I received such a letter from Volvo. My car is only worth $12,000 at this point since it is 10 years old but I have only 66,000 miles on my car which is low (particularly for a Volvo). I have written beyer Volvo in falls church, va, asking them to pay for the repairs, as well as Volvo north America. Both declined to provide any payment for repair of my vehicle. There are class action lawsuits against Volvo for not informing their customers of this defect. Nhtsa should have issued a recall. Can NHTSA help me with this problem now? my car is not safe to drive since the oil will leak from the pistons into the rest of the engine. I can't afford to buy a car right now. It is wrong that Volvo is getting away with this defect without paying for the repairs of my cars. Thank you [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. I replaced a catalytic converter and 2 O2 sensors a few months ago. Check engine light came on. Oil was pooling into the catalytic converter from the engine. Technician checked pistons. Said there was unusual wear and oil was coming in through the pistons.

My Volvo Xc70 has had a sudden and significant increase in oil consumption. I believe this is due to the pistons which Volvo is now acknowledging. They refuse to issue a recall or to repair my very well maintained vehicle. Continue operation requires up to 2 quarts of oil every 500 miles! it also presents an ongoing risk of sudden engine malfunction and dangerous stoppage, I have all my records which shows my car has been maintained and the cause is faulty pistons. Volvo must be held accountable.
Car stalled at an intersection twice. We took it to a repair shop after the first instance and they told us the battery had died, though they were able to charge it and it restarted fine. They could not find any other issues. We continued to drive it and two days later the car died at another intersection just after my wife had picked up our kids from school. We had it towed to the dealer this time. I relayed the recall information for an earlier or different model of my car that sounded like the same issue: the starter motor fuse. I believe this to be the same issue even though my car did not show up on the recall.
The contact owns a 2008 Volvo Xc70. The contact stated that while her husband was leaving a restaurant drive thru, the vehicle loss motive power without warning while entering onto the main street. The driver was waiting for a tow truck to tow the vehicle from the scene. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 09v218000 (engine and engine cooling). The failure mileage was approximately 120,000. The VIN was unavailable.

My 2008 Volvos engine caught on fire while I was shopping , the engine is completely destroyed so it is totaled.
Have had multiple overheating incidents while driving, which coincided with the air conditioner stopping working. I think learned of Volvo recall #09v218000 which describes exactly the failure I've been experiencing. I contacted Volvo customer service, but they claim that my VIN does not fall under the vehicles recalled. The referenced above was for 17,614 2008-2009 Xc70, s80, and v70 vehicles. Evidently was related to a software programming error in the fan control module, and the defect corrective action was supposed to be replacing the fcm. Volvo told me that they will not assist with this effort, even though it's a major safety issue effected by the recall, but apparently not my specific VIN. Any assistance in getting additional vins added to this recall would be greatly appreciated.
After driving for about 20 minutes in 77f, sunny, dry conditions, I'd come off the freeway and stopped for about 15 seconds at a light to make a left turn. When I started making the left, someone blew through the red light to turn right coming from the opposite direction right in front of me. I let off the throttle but the throttle did not release. I was going about 15-20mph with the engine around 2,000rpm in, most likely, third gear. Since I was at low speed, I promptly tried gently tipping in the throttle to see if I could close but it did not so I immediately put the transmission in neutral. The motor revved up to about 4,000rpm which is a natural idle for this motor if the transmission is in gear and the motor is under load at 2,000rpm. After seeing it rev up, I put it back in drive and it jerked into gear because the vehicle was still on throttle. Suddenly the throttle cut and it returned to the normal pedal travel vs. Acceleration response relation. It felt as though the car had cruise control on. I could make it go faster but the motor wouldn't rotate any slower than about 2,000rpm.

Found out today that my car has a crack in the fuel pump after smelling gas the last few days. There was a recall for 2001-2005 Xc70's (Jan. 2010) where the fuel pump can develop cracks in the flange when exposed to hot temps and (thermal cycling) combined with varying fuel grades. Checked with the dealer and was told connecticut was not one of the states covered by this recall. Why not and have there been other complaints from states not covered in the original recall. A car fire can be a definite result of this fuel leak and should be covered in all states.

Vehicle ignition assembly failed, immobilizing car. Key wouldn't move past "I" position, preventing it from starting. The steering wheel was locked and the transmission couldn't be moved from the park position. Vehicle had to be towed to Volvo dealer for repair.
Our car has about 93,000 miles on it. Beginning at 60,000 miles, the car began to use an excessive amount of oil. The low oil indicator comes on and we need to add one or more quarts of oil at each 3,000 to 3,500 miles. The car dealer tells us it is "normal" for some cars to use this amount of oil and the problem has not been resolved. I noticed a recall noticetsb #tj30021 covered some 2011 Volvo xc 70s for oil loss. Why does it not cover the 2010 cars? this is a continuing problem with my car. Have there been other complaints similar to mine? I have records for my oil changes from the car dealership.

The contact owns a 2010 Volvo Xc70. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, she realized that smoke was coming from the air vents. The contact merged onto the exit ramp and stopped the vehicle. The contact then exited the vehicle and noticed flames coming from the engine. The fire department was notified and extinguished the fire. The contact was taken to the emergency room to treat injuries resulting from inhaling large amounts of smoke. No other persons were injured. The fire department had the vehicle towed because it was not driveable. A police report was available if needed. There were extensive damages to the front end of the vehicle. The dealer was notified and offered no assistance. The manufacturer was not notified. The VIN was unknown. The failure and current mileages were 17,000.
I noticed one day that there was suddenly a "pause" when the lower automatic gears were shifting, perhaps from first to second gear during acceleration. If my foot was on the accelerator, the car "lurched" forward with a startling, loud thud when the gear seemed to engage. If I recognized this was happening and lifted my foot off the accelerator, the car hovered in between gears for a second or two then changed gears. Scary!.

My Volvo's engine started to sputter then died and lost all power. This occurred in seconds and left my two young children and I in a very dangerous, potentially deadly traffic situation. My gas gauge read 150 miles worth of gas left in gas tank. The Volvo was towed to the dealership where it was found to have a faulty fuel pump and control module. Both were replaced.
The contact owns a 2001 Volvo Xc70. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle independently stopped. The vehicle was able to restart; however, it shook violently. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer (mitchell Volvo cars of simsbury 384 hopmeadow street, simsbury, CT 06070) where it was diagnosed that the throttle module needed an update. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle module failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer sent an electrical specialist to the local dealer to properly diagnose the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.
