Equipment problem #1

While the vehicle was parked, the trunk opened and the alarm sounded. Using the buttons on the trunk, I shut the trunk and locked the car. A few moments later, the trunk opened and the alarm sounded again. This continued for 40 minutes. Today, if I place a battery in the main black key fob, the trunk will open with the car running. I have an appointment next week at the dealer, however, most correspondence with Volvo has been by phone during the time it occurred. Both key fobs are not recognized by the vehicle unless specifically placed in a vertical direction in the cup holder. While driving, I receive messages that the key is not detected (although, I understand the car should not shut off while running after started and this has not occurred thankfully. ). I will provide further documentation once available but want to report in case others experience this issue.

Equipment problem #2

My 2023 Volvo Xc90 was recalled for issues with the backup camera. Software update was installed twice without success. Finally camera was replaced. No success either.

Equipment problem #3

There was always an issue with the car software. On several occasions while driving the entire screen will black out. I would need to pull over immediately so that the screen can be reset manually. Other times the screen is on, but there is no sound, such as my signal lights when switched to left or right will not have any sound, just blinking. Other times, when I back up the car, the cameras will blackout making it impossible to know if there are cars approaching or any pedestrians behind the car. This has happened on multiple occasions since I took the car on oct 15 2023. These issues were brought to the attention of the Volvo dealership where the car is leased, but the problem was never fixed.

Equipment problem #4

Backup camera stopped working during reverse event. Recall did not fix the issue.

Equipment problem #5

I purchased this vehicle new in October of 2023. From day 1 I have had issues where the backup camera would display an image and then turn off while backing up. I brought the car in multiple times for this before the recall was issued and then again when the recall was issued. The recall work has been completed and oddly the issue went away for a few days and then returned. I have since brought it back in and they performed a full software restore at the dealer. The problem with the camera has not been rectified. I added to the complaint emergency breaking because this car also has a habit of emergency braking when pulling into or out of parking spaces with no obstacles near. This issue, hasn't really been investigated much as it is much more intermittent and difficult to duplicate.

Equipment problem #6

1. When putting vehicle in reverse the backup camera has a slight delay which can cause serious accidents. I've never driven a vehicle with such delays. Needs to be checked out. 2. When putting vehicle in reverse, the backup camera comes up, ut if you press any button on the main screen the backup camera screen will go away. For example I press the ac button, the backup camera will disappear and the ac settings will come up. This causes a very dangerous situation. There isn't even a way to get back the camera view once you press anything on the screen. This happens because Volvo cars don't have much physical buttons left, so everything is controlled on the screen. In my opinion, when reversing, the backup camera should always be the dominant thing on the screen, no other functions should be able to overwrite that.

Equipment problem #7

On April 29th 2023 while washing my Volvo Xc90 I opened the trunk to clean out the crevasses around the car. As I continued to wipe down/dry the vehicle I placed my hand at the top of the trunk opening and moved my way downwards to wipe the bumper and side of car. Unfortunately, the handsfree tailgate feature activated and the trunk began to close on my hand. Due to my hand being so close to the the spring and the speed in which the trunk door closed I was unable to move my hand fast enough. My middle, index and pinky finger were all crushed inside of the car trunk. No one was able to render aid to me for several minutes. I was able to contort my body enough to push the trunk button and unlock it but the gate itself would not lift. I even in a state of panic tried to kick under the car to initiate the lift, I tried lifting as best I could to get relief off of my hands. Finally about 5 minutes later a passerby came and rendered aid to me and he had to manually lift the trunk up to free my fingers. The experience has been traumatic and I am taking all necessary steps via the Volvo dealership and Volvo to have this matter checked out and resolved. The car has no sensors around the trunk with the exception of something blocking it from closing completely. Also, if you are not carefully and are leaning into the trunk and trip the handsfree tailgate sensor it can close on you if you are leaning into the trunk - this is an issue I saw with my xc60 (2021) that clearly was not resolved. I did go to the er and wound up with thankfully a bruised hand/tendons but no broken bones but I will need to follow up with a hand surgeon to ensure I do not have tendon/nerve damage.

Equipment problem #8

The 2023 model features a push button to shift the vehicle into park. When pressing the button, the vehicle does not always shift into park. I’m not sure if it only registers with a certain force, but often I’ve pressed the button many times only to realize that I’m not in park as I remove my foot from the brake and propel forward. I’ve been keeping the ‘auto break’ feature on this way when it doesn’t switch into park at least the car doesn’t possibly roll into something I’m parked behind. When parking permanently and shutting the vehicle off I’ve started just turning the car off completely avoiding the step to put the car into park first. However, I don’t think it’s safe to have to take so much care to ensure your car switches into the park gear. I was only able to find one other person with the same complaint in an online forum, I believe because this shifter set up is new for all of the 2023 models. The person in the xc40 thread describes my exact safety concern. . Read more...

Equipment problem #9

1)rear 2nd row seat creaking noises. I visited the dealer 3 times, showed evidence with video clips what I recorded, but they couldn't find the cause. I thought that replacing the entire seat was the best way, but the work was finished by applying lubricant only, and this phenomenon continues even after that. The noise disappears when the seat is folded and unfolded as a trial, but it reappears after a few days, and there is no noise when the passenger sits in the seats. These cases are mentioned in swedespeed. Com, a user's internet forum, but there seems to be no improvement. The problem is noise that interferes with the concentration of driving. 2) when passengers board the 2nd and 3rd row seats and do not wear belts, there should be a warning sound and warning message, but there is none. 1st row seat works fine.
