Blind Spot Detection Problems of Volvo XC90

I was driving on the internstate and my blind spot indicator came on and stayed on even though there were no cars in my blind spot. I needed to change lanes and tried to despite the blind spot indicator being on and the automatic collision avoidance system put me back into the lane I was in. I had to fight the vehicle to get over to be able to exit the interstate.

I was backing out of my drive. It was an early morning and it was very foggy. The windows were foggy and not totally defrosted yet. My camera wasnt showing everything around but we were having constant upgrade issues during this week of October 5th through the 10th. My automatic braking never activated even though it was turned on. I ran into a cattle feeder overhang. I never seen it in my camera view. The windows seem to have a really bad fog to them. My back driver tail-light got broken and back driver panel got dented and scratched. There are probably more things involved as its in the shop as I am typing this out. The adjustor had to send another estimate to my insurance company for more damages done. I haven't gotten word back from them yet. But, it's over $3,000. All of the issues seemed to resolve after the update was finished after that week. My automatic braking worked after that.

The screens and backup camera are repeatedly crashing, even after the recall "fix" from the dealership. This happens multiple times a week.

The safety sub system completely stop working periodically. When it occurs: - the blind spot indicators do not light up when a car is in blind spot - turn signals stop making sound. Not sure if they still function - collision system stops making sound. Sometimes stops showing near objects and walls. This has happened about 7 times since purchase of the car, and requires a full computer reboot to fix it. It’s random, so you don’t know it’s failed until driving and something doesn’t work. I don’t have pictures but I have a video of it I can share if someone wants to see some of the issues. It just happened again today, and happens maybe once every couple months.

Volvo's blind spot information system (blis) lends itself to unsafe conditions. This is true for the many drivers who are used to driving cars that are smilarly equipped. For nearly 15 years I have been driving cars that were similarly equipped and when activating the turn signal in the direction where the system indicated another vehicle in the "blind spot" an audible warning sounded until the trun signal was extinguished or the danger passed. Volvo fails to provide the audible signal and thus, if there is a failed led in the mirror, there is no indication of a vehicle in the blind spot and no redundancy. Further, habits are hard to break and after driving cars with the audible warning, and relying on it, it is difficult to get used to not having it. In addition, all the cars that I personally drove with hud (head up dispay), vehicles in the blind spots were displayed on the hud. Volvo cars are equipped in terms of hardware to enable these functions (audible warning & hud display) with simple software patches. One additionl point, the lights on the mirrors can be practically invisible during the day with sunlight behind the car and at night with bright lights illuminating the mirrors from behind. I feel it is imperative that Volvo is compelled to incorporate the proposed changes as those would certainly mitigate potenial accidents.

My roof is leaking, it was coming out the front cabin light. This problem can be found noted on many websites with pictures for my year/model. Then we started getting errors with suspension and my wife got a warning she should stop the car. She got it home and we found the water had now leaked into the rear right quarter panel where at least 1 computer is stored. That area had at least 1� of water in it. I had to pull a drain plug to drain it. The dealership confirmed the computer was fried ($2600) and had previously said our drains were clear and the fix was a new rear seal. While their another person had just gotton that sunroof $2k fix on their car. The computer has disabled the blind spot lights on the side mirrors, front collision warning and assume auto braking, the rear camera is out, and gps. These are the things that are obvious, I don't know what else is disabled I don't know. The dealer also said they were limited on the fault codes they could get because of the failure as well. In doing more research for �Volvo sunroof leak� I found a site called topclassactions. Com with several individual incidences of newer years and others models where the roof leaks into the rear and fries the computer. One noted � that happened while I was driving! I lost brakes and engine power, the gear box got locked. Eventually I pulled into parking lot. At that point I tried to turned off the engine of the car but it wouldn't let me. � someone else noted brake failure as well. The sunroof issue is not uncommon and Volvo is giving consumers the run around when their design leaks and damages the computer controlling key safety features. These are �new� cars 2016 and up. There are also instances where the consumer pays to get the leak �fixed� and it continues to leak therefore increasing the chance of the safety computer failing.
