The contact owns a 2025 Volvo Xc90. The contact stated that the camera was leggy and was inoperable while in reverse. While in a parking lot and driveway, the camera was inoperable. While on flat surfaces, the parking brake engaged without application. The driver had to manually release the brake. The vehicle was restarted, and the camera worked at times. While reversing, she bumped/crashed into a piece of metal in the driveway left by workers. There was no alert indicating that there was an object there. There were no reported injuries, air bag deployment, fire, or police report filed. The google assistant was glitching and went into spanish mode. While using the turn signal, there was no sound. There was no air conditioning; the center screen had frozen. The cross-traffic sensor alert was triggered, causing the auto brake system to engage when there was no object, windy weather, or rain. While using a loaner, the vehicle has similar symptoms. The contact stated the vehicle was taken to the local dealer on seven occasions for software issues, and a computer processor chip was installed. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The car, including all brake components, was inspected 3 wks ago. Nine days ago, the emergency brake shoe broke and the pieces fell into the wheel works so I could not drive the car. Note: it had been raining for a long time, so the mechanic suspects the e-brake cable rusted, froze lightly into the "brake" position and the friction rubbed off the adhesive and broke the shoe. The car had been driven the previous day for about 2. 5 hours on the highway with no problems.

Volvo Xc90 uses "drum in hat" parking brake design for rear wheels of vehicle. Whether engaged or not, the friction (lining) material for the parking brake can separate catastrophically from the shoe and lodge against the inside of the drum, causing one or both of the rear wheels to lock up, driveline damage, loss of control of the vehicle and/or braking component damage. Upon inquiry to dealer (secor Volvo of new london, connecticut), this problem is known to dealer and/or Volvo,.

Parking brakes not disengaging. The car will not move even when in gear and gas is applied. It felt like one of the wheels is locked. If parked inside a garage, constitutes severe hazard especially for inexperience drivers as the car may suddenly move if the brake suddenly disengages. There is no telling when the brake will disengage. The brakes eventually disengaged after several tries of rocking the car by alternately engaging the gears between reverse and drive. This situation has happened twice in the past.

Ignition key is removable while car is in gear thus allowing vehicle to roll after key has been removed. Manufacturer is aware of the defect, but does not claim responsibility. My concern is someone thinking the vehicle is in park, but is in gear and the vehicle potentially harms someone.

While driving under snowing conditions emergency brake engaged automatically, causing the driver to temporarily lose control of the vehicle. When the emergency brake engaged it only locked the passenger side rear wheel. This incident occurred twice in the same day.
Problems with the emergency brake system. Car was in the shop three times for a total of six weeks. Entire system was replaced using parts that will be available on the 2005 models.
