Unknown Or Other problem #1

I purchased my 04' xc 90 six months ago from a private party (original owner) who kept the car in immaculate condition. The reason I purchased a Volvo was that I wanted a dependable and safe car for myself and my young children. Recently, I was left stranded with my children and no cell service because my key would not turn past position one to turn on the car. There were no signs that the car had anything wrong with it prior to this happening. After finding our way to a telephone and having the car towed to a mechanic I was told that it needed a new ignition switch. I did some research to find that this is a very common problem with Volvos. I read stories on multiple forums that were very similar to mine. My children and I were put into a potentially life threatening situation that easily could have been avoided had there been a recall on the ignition switch. This part is obviously faulty on multiple Volvo models and it seems like it should be something that they should fix.

Unknown Or Other problem #2

Moving about 70mph in cruise we felt a severe jerk followed by near instantaneous hard acceleration. The jerk/thud action so extreme it was almost like the Volvo tried to reverse gear by itself. It’s strange how an ‘event’ can conjure up common thoughts. After the uncontrolled hard acceleration, I had thoughts of that state patrol officer driving the Lexus in California who was killed along with his family when he couldn’t control the bizarre behavior of the car. Turns out it was the same thoughts my brother had. €¢ as we pulled over and call for help our Volvo did something bizarre again. We thought the rear wheel going backward at this time, almost at the same time most all the power in the Volvo went dead. O gauges incl. Speedometer, the tack, the gas, the battery, all out. O the windows stuck in the up position. O no taillights, no brake lights, no directional. O the transmission stuck in a gear - either 4 or 5th. €¢ while waiting for help at the auto zone, I searched what this issue might be. I found a Volvo forum that shows many people that had similar, dramatic issues with same year same model Volvo. €¢ after re-connecting the battery, the power came back on o about â½ hour later the Volvo repeated a very dramatic thump-jerk and the power started to go out. The tack and speedometer started dropping - dash lights dimmed and all of sudden the power came back - lights back and gauges popped back up. O only to be followed by another thump about one minute later and this time the power failure was similar to above (not sure about taillights as I was moving on the highway and not about to get out and check. ) o on our next trip even at the reduced speeds - 5 or 6 times he Volvo did some bizarre jerk maneuver with 3 of the times followed by power failure. €¢ we talked about options and we agreed that selling this vehicle to someone and possibly putting another family at risk. It is not the right thing to do and not a christian thing to do.

Unknown Or Other problem #3

I have had two incidents in which the car cycles off and on after approximate three hours of highway driving a few times, and then loses all auxiliary power, srs light comes on, brake failure, but car continues to run and brakes operate fine. On the second occasion, I pulled off the highway, turned the car off, then on again, and the car worked fine for a few minutes, and did this again when the car powered down, until I reached my destination. The car then sat in a parking lot and I returned on the 250 mile journey home. I stopped every hour to hour and a half, and made it home after five hours, without incident. The mechanic initially told me it might be the driver information module (dim), which the part cost $1200 and then labor, but it may or may not fix the problem. It is in the shop now after the second episode, 3 weeks later, and again they say it looks to be the dim. I am not willing to spend the money on this if it will not fix the problem. I will continue to drive the car like this unless it becomes a safety hazard.

Unknown Or Other problem #4

While driving on the highway at night, all electrical indicators on dashboard including the turn signals stop working then the vehicle started slowing down. After stoping I was unable to open gas tank and tailgate where the battery is located. I took the vehicle to the Volvo dealer and they were unable to duplicate the incident. Now this has happen 7 more times. I am a single parent with minor children in my vehicle. Please assist. Someone inform me the problem might be with the central electrical module. I purchase this vehicle used and it is out of warranty. I have seen lots of complaints about this vehicle why is there not a recall on the central electrical module? please do something before there are fatialties.

Unknown Or Other problem #5

After driving 125 miles without incident, we left our 2004 Volvo xc 90 t6 awd parked for 4 hours before driving again. After less than a half mile at low speed, there was a "thump" from the front of the car, the wipers cycled, the gauges all went blank, some of the windows stopped working, the a/c went out (blower stayed on). The car stayed on, but seemed "stuck" in second gear and the brakes became "spongy," but operable. Turn signals were inoperable and the power steering went out. The indicator light on the gear shift went out and the central locking system stopped functioning. We got out of traffic and into the shade. I checked all fuses and tried to restart the car. It would restart, but within seconds there were multiple "clicks" coming from the area near the fuse box in the passenger compartment followed by the electrical failures described above. After letting the car sit for a couple of hours we moved it to a secure location two miles away. During that drive all of the above problems happened again, including the engine being "stuck" in second gear. After letting the car sit overnight, it started and ran without incident. However, the "check engine" light and the "srs" light have remained on. A repair shop could not diagnose the problem. Prior to this incident, the same things happened to my wife in the same car. The symptoms lasted a few seconds and disappeared.

Unknown Or Other problem #6

All dashlights went completely black, and the power steering went out with it while driving down the freeway (at night). This happened on three different occasions. Volvo dealer claimed they "reset" it the first two fixes and then the third time replaced the cem, which was a couple thousand dollar fix for me.

Unknown Or Other problem #7

1. Since day 1, the transmission on my 2004 Volvo-xc90 has always given me trouble, it doesn't engage trough gear as quickly as it should. On may 25th 2009, the transmission completely went out leaving me in the middle of the intersection with cars behind me traveling 35 miles and almost caused an accident. 2. The transmission has never operated properly since I purchased the car in April of 2009. The shop and every other one I called knew exactly what the problem was. They said that the transmission in this model and year was a faulty gm transmission and have seen many in for this type of service. I did some research on the internet and found that many owners have experienced the same problem, the exact problem. I bought it from autowest Acura in san jose, I ask them for help with that matter, (4 times) they were evasive and refused to help, or to get to any arrangement. The "transmission service urgent" light came on. Took the car to the dealer and they said I need a new transmission. There seems to be a large number of these same complaints for this same car from Volvo. There is a serious problem with this car and I'm writing you for consumer protection.

Unknown Or Other problem #8

My 4 year old son was in an accident with our brand new Volvo Xc90. I got out of car to take a picture (leaving the engine on for air conditioning) and he shifted the car out of park, crashing thank goodness into a fence that slowly stopped him. Knowing he cannot reach the break I immediately tested the gear shift and found that it easily shifts out of park without your foot on the brake. We have returned the car to the dealer who has admitted "the car's shifter is broken". We asked to check another new Xc90 it functioned properly. This could have been a fatal accident if it happened in any other location. We are hoping the dealer will fully repair the car or offer us a new one. I am not sure I can trust this car again -we just bought it this may. How and when did it "break" or was it defective to start with? should this car have even passed its safety inspection? can I get access to the factory's safety inspection? are there other reports of brand new Xc90s with defective gear shifts? has anyone else reported this? I'd have never known it was faulty if this accident hadn't happened. I expected this safety standard, as our old Volvo had it. Fortunately my son was not injured, but somebody else's child may be. Please check out these cars. What should we expect from the dealer?.

Unknown Or Other problem #9

While driving my 2005 Volvo Xc90 (54,414 miles) on a busy California freeway (the 405), the engine stopped suddenly with no warning or warning light. Fortunately, I was able to make it over to the side of the road to call for a tow without injury (although I was almost rear ended since the failure was so sudden and without warning) and had it towed to a Volvo dealer in torrance, CA. It is a transmission problem. Since then, we have found hundreds of other consumers who have had the same problem with their Xc90 Volvos too. Volvo has not recalled or provided any notice to consumers of the problem. Volvo has provided replacement trades and cash to some consumers who complained, but no overall notice to consumers. We didn't find out until it happened to us and started to research. Additionally, the week before, the front left tire blew out when my wife was driving and I was out of town. Uneven tire wear, uneven wear even with constant realignment, is another common issue with the 18" tires on Volvo. They know of the issue, but not how to fix it. Volvo did at least send a tow truck to put the spare on and my wife was not injured (fortunately). We didn't know of the safely flaws in the Xc90 which was purchased because of Volvo's marketing campaign of "safety" and "Volvo for life" campaign. Volvo is advertising falsely and the Xc90 has safety issues. Please help protect others!.

Unknown Or Other problem #10

A colleague and I often carpool to work. She picked me up in her new Volvo van - purchased from dealer in late 2006. The colleague, got out to chat with my sister while I gathered the things I needed to take to work. The passenger side window was half-way open because it had been a mild January day in NJ. The door, though, was locked, and I wanted to get inside the car ready to be on our way. I leaned my head inside and pushed the button I thought was the door lock. Instead, I activated the power window which continued to close on my neck even after I released it. I just barely figured out what was happening and slipped my head out in time. I am afraid people will be injured. Isn't there a safety feature to prevent windows from closing automatically? has the feature been disabled on some cars? bad idea!.
