My 2002 chevy Trailblazer started running sluggish and getting terrible gas mileage, then I started smelling gas while I was driving, pulled over and there was gas pouring out of the tank underneath the car! very dangerous!.

I just purchased the 2002 chevy Trailblazer from masano auto retailers, as is, in reading, pennsylvania. Upon stopping at a gas station because I noticed the rear lights were not working, I smelled gas, and upon looking under the vehicle I saw gas dripping down from the bottom of the gas tank. I could not see exactly where the gas is leaking from, and only noticed that gas was running down the gas tank. I went online and noticed that this is a common problem with the 2002 chevy Trailblazer, and wondered why such a dangerous issue that could result in a catastrophe was not the subject of a recall. Really! its ok to allow people to drive in cities and park near homes, schools and businesses with leaking gas tanks, not to mention the environment for crying out loud. Where is the recall?.
In the past 3 years vehicle had gas odor upon exiting vehicle upon use. Until recently, fuel started leaking profusely when vehicle was running. General motors issued extended warranty due to many complaints regarding this issue. We being the original owner of the vehicle were never sent any information regarding the extension of any factory warranty regarding this issue. After contacting general motors about this issue, they stated that the vehicle is beyond the year and mileage of the extended warranty. If we would of been notified by gm about this problem with leaking fuel tanks we would of resolved this issue when we started smelling the fumes a few years back when the extended warranty would of been in effect. After contacting gm and speaking with a representative, they refused to honor the warranty. Gm neglected to contact and inform us of any extended warranty that applied to our vehicle regarding this issue. We feel that this problem with the fuel tank is a safety issue that could be a potential fire hazard causing serious injury to anyone inside or around the vehicle. We are going to file a written complaint with general motors. Please let me know how you feel about this situation. Thank you.

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the fuel sensor gauge indicated that the fuel tank was half full when the vehicle shut off because the fuel tank was empty. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the fuel gauge sensor was faulty. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact also indicated that the tire air sensor indicated that air in the front drivers side tire was low but after inspecting the vehicle the contact discovered that air in the rear drivers side tire was low. The failure was not diagnosed nor was the vehicle repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 80,000.

For months I have been having issues with my vehicle. It was taken in to Chevrolet for a recall repair and now it seems to have all sorts of problems! my fuel gauge in the tank is no longer working, my a/c was working one day but not the next, the check engine light turns on and off, it's dumping fuel, the thermostat had to be replaced. . . When do the problems end? now come to find out after having my blower motor replaced the connector for the electrical has had a little bit of melting issue which potentially could have caught fire!!! of course general motors wants and arm and a leg to replace it!!!! I don't think I will ever buy another chevy again, this is ridiculous! if it had caught fire which I am sure if people can't afford or don't get their vehicles properly checked there will be one that happens to, it could kill someone! seems like a liability waiting to happen!.

I was leaving work headed home, and my gas gauge read 1/2 a tank of gas. As I was going up a hill my truck slowly comes to a complete stop. This was a very dangerous place to be in 5pm traffic. Luckily no one was hurt. 11.
I have a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext with 161,000 miles on it. A few weeks ago I got to noticing a real strong gas odor in and around the vehicle. I have done a lot of research and have had the vehicle checked out and came to the conclusion that it is the common problem that is affecting many other Trailblazer ext owners. It is the fuel tank inlet check valve at the top of the fuel tank. In doing my research I have noticed that many people have had this issue fixed by some recalls that have been issued so I took the vehicle to my local Chevrolet dealer to find out about it only to be informed that mine is 41,000 miles past the recall mileage and will cost upwards of $1,000 to fix. I am worried about a possible fire or explosion with this issue. I am afraid to drive it to work every day and to use it to take my children to school. I just wish that Chevrolet would fix this so I don't have to worry every day about driving it. I don't feel that there should be a mileage restriction on a safety issue that could result in death or great injury.
The fuel gauge reads empty when there is plenty of gas in the tank. It sometimes read full when there is little gas left.

2005 Trailblazer ext, 55500 miles, bought new. In January 2013 I filled up my gas tank. Within one block of leaving the gas station the fuel gauge went to “0” (empty). Thereafter, the gauge reads intermittently between what seems to be normal & empty. The error code p0463 (obd ii, obd2) indicates a fuel sending unit failure. This leaves me with a dangerous vehicle. Why? scenario: your traveling 60 mph, run out of fuel & now have a disabled vehicle on a highway with other travelers whizzing by. The repair for the fuel sending unit is said to be $600 to over $1000. By the way, I had a '97 s10 blazer that had the same problem. I understand there are currently almost one million complaints registered for the same thing on gm vehicles.
I first starting smell gas out side the Trailblazer after filling it up. I looked at the fuel tank and looks to be leaking at the filler neck. Now I am smell gas coming through the vents inside the vehicle.
As I was driving home from work I was traveling about 45 mph on 2 lane state route. My fuel low indicator light came on and car shut off immediately. Luckily I was able to get to side of road and get hazard lights turned on before an accident could occur. After filling tank everything seemed normal. Then about 3 months later again the low fuel indicator light comes on and car shuts off immediately. Again I was able to avoid an accident by getting car to side of road and using hazard lights. After this incident we filled the tank and the low fuel indicator stayed lit, then went off, fuel gauge showed full, then 1/2, then 3/4, then low fuel light back on (all this happened in the 12 miles to get home). Now the low fuel light stays on and the only way to know how much fuel is to refuel every few hundred miles and that is wrong.
The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext. The contact stated there was a massive fuel leak coming from under the vehicle. The contact noticed the leak as the vehicle was idling. The contact turned the vehicle off and had it towed to the dealer. The contact stated that the vehicle was at the dealer but he had not spoken with the dealer to determine the diagnosis of the failure. The manufacturer was notified who advised that when the dealer inspected the vehicle, then they would contact him. The contact filed a complaint with the manufacturer. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 185,000. The consumer stated the fuel tank, fuel mount, and fuel lines were all replaced for $2000. 00. If the vehicle had set on fire it would have exploded under the driver's seat. Updated 08/20/2012.
Leaking gas tank.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the fuel gauge was defective and would read empty when the fuel tank was full. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 88,000.
Gas gauge fluctuates, filled gas tank, moments later it went down to empty (warning light and sound went off). This has happened for the past week. Prior to this the check engine would sporadically go off and on, probably an early indicator that there was a problem with the fuel gauge.
Our 2003 chevy Trailblazer has smelled like fuel for a few months and we have been going through gas like crazy. We just discovered a cracked valve connecting the hose to the fuel tank. Of course, chevy doesn't just sell the valve, they want you to buy a whole new tank. After researching online, this seems to be a common problem, maybe a defect with this model and make for 2002-2004 models. I have 3 small children and am concerned that this is a huge safety issue. We had another defect problem with our Trailblazer last year, where the hinges on the rear door wore out and we had to replace the entire door. This is also a common problem with Trailblazers, but chevy will not issue a recall. We paid the $2500 for the rear door, but I don't want to pay another $1000+ for the fuel tank. This vehicle is becoming a money pit.
I have a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer. After filling the gas tank, the fuel gauge reads "full". As I drive, it steadily drops to about 2/3 full, then it suddenly drops to "empty". As I continue to drive, the gauge begins to rise, and after a few seconds was back to "empty". This repeats now after every fill. As I search the internet, I find that this is a very common Chevrolet Trailblazer problem. Has it become a recall?.
I just purchased a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer approximately a month ago. I have noticed that my fuel gauge tends to go ballistic when it wants and where it wants. It's like my truck can not decide if there is gas in the tank or not. I find this to be a major safety hazard. All I can find online is gm is offering to pay half on selected models as long as they meet requirements. Ok the government bailed gm out, how come they can't be forced to correct the problem that their shoddy parts created?!?!? from what I've found, this is a very wide range problem. Considering I just purchased this vehicle, I don't have the money to even pay half for the repair. . . . . So what, I'm just stuck like chuck? at least Ford fixes their screw ups!.
I filled up my gas tank completely and the gas gauge registered "empty. " the truck has also stalled a few times in both drive and reverse. This is extremely dangerous as I was backing into traffic when it stalled. I had to quickly re-start it to avoid being hit by oncoming traffic. Since my fuel gage sensor broke I have been watching the needle go from "full" to "empty" all within a minute. I've done some research on this matter and have found that Chevrolet used a cheaper fuel sensor manufacturer (delco) in order to save money. The customer should not be responsible for any of the cost to repair the fuel sensor. Please advise Chevrolet to recall this faulty part at their expense. Thank you.
As many of the other complaints my 2006 Trailblazer is having a fuel tank sending unit problem, the fuel gauge will read empty then shoot up to half full, I was told that the repair will cost approx 600. To 700. 00 which I can't afford . I don't believe it's time to force gm to step up to the plate and issue a recall seeing that so many others are having the same problem.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the fuel gauge indicated a level of empty although the fuel tank was full. The low fuel warning light was also illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostics. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the fuel tank sending unit was fractured and would have to be replaced. There was an investigation under NHTSA action number: dp10001 (fuel tank fuel system, other:storage:fuel gauge system) that could possibly have been related to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 175,000.
Fuel gauge reads empty and low fuel light illuminated after filling gas tank, fuel gauge rises and falls intermittently.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer. While driving approximately 20 mph, the contact noticed the fuel gauge displayed an inaccurate reading which indicated the fuel tank was empty. The fuel tank consumed half the fuel level capacity when the malfunction occurred. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the fuel lever sensor was replaced. The contact was responsible for fifty percent of the repair cost due to the manufacturer's extended warranty. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 28,019.
Fuel gauge inaccurately reads empty when tank has been filled. Fuel gauge will jump from empty, to 3/4 tank, to 1/2 full to 1/4 tank and back to empty with fuel light and audio warning within less than 5 minutes. When this happens check engine light comes on.
I have several times now been driving with 1/4 tank of gas and run out of fuel. Now today I fill the tank and the gas gauge reads empty with the light on. I just put in 22 gallons so I know it is not empty. I have heard of this problem many times online and there needs to be a recall, this occurs through no fault of owner.
After filling my gas tank and exiting gas station. I noticed that my fuel gauge was showing half full, even though I just put in 20 gallons of gas in the tank. As I drove further down the rode I noticed the gauge would go back and forth from empty to full stopping at different points. At some points would stay at empty.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the fuel gauge would erroneously provide an empty reading when the fuel tank was filled to capacity. The contact stated that the check engine light would sporadically illuminate when the failure occurred as well as the vehicle exhibiting sporadic stalling. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection or repairs. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 72,000 and the current mileage was 73,000.
Lately, and intermittently, when the gas tank is 1/2 full or less and a sharp turn is made, the gas gauge goes to e, the low gas light comes on and the car will not go more than 20 mph as if it is losing power. It's most scary when it occurs making a turn onto freeway entrance ramp and I am trying to get power to enter moving traffic. Typically, I have to pull over, turn the car off and restart to get the car to run normal.
Gas gauge stopped working for no apparent reason. Needle jumps from full to empty to half, etc. While driving. Unable to gauge how much gas is in the tank.
Fuel gauge sending unit has failed. The fuel gauge no longer reads accurately. It will show empty with the check engine light on while the tank in full, also masking an actual check engine problem. It also shows full fuel when the tank is less than half full.
The fuel gauge in my 2007 chevy Trailblazer continuosly drops to empty shortly after starting my car, despite having a full tank. This happens every time I drive my car no matter how much gas is in the tank.
Gas gauge fails. After completely filling gas tank, gauge still shows below empty and light stays on. This has been going on for several months. I have run out of gas twice - once at a busy intersection and was fortunate to coast thru the intersection and make it to the side. I now track my gas usage via mileage but this is not accurate and causes me to have to stop and put gas in every other day for fear of breaking down again with my four year old son in the car. I have a couple of friends that also own 2005 Trailblazers and they are also having the same problem. I have found numerous online forums discussing this an I am surprised Chevrolet has not issued a recall. If they have, I have never been notified. This is a serious issue and Chevrolet should be responsible and resolve this before someone is seriously hurt because of this problem.
Fuel gauge stop working and out of fuel light stays on even with a full tank of fuel.
