I purchased my 1999 Dodge Intrepid a 1 1/2 ago with 80,000 miles. About 3 months after purchase the cooling fans went and had to replace $400. 00. Then about 2 months ago the crank shaft sensor went. Now the engine is gone. Oil light flickering on and off, check oil level is fine. Went from a tapping noise in engine to the engine sounding like its going to blow up. Cant drive piece of junk and still owe 7,000. 00 on it.

2 Cooling Fan problem of the 2003 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 04/25/2006

Below, please find a partial copy of an email complaint sent to Dodge on 4/27/06 complaint! please be advise that on the evening of Tuesday 4/25/06, my 2003 Intrepid overheated severely (without warning) after a ten minute ride. Sadly, the dashboard indicators and temperature gauge were not working properly and thus I was not aware that the vehicle (which was recently maintenance by the dealer) was in such distress. The vehicle was towed on 4/26 and I received a call from the dealer during the mid-afternoon of 4/27 stating that two cooling fans had failed (due to electrical malfunctioning) and a gasket pertaining to the thermostat had broken, all of which was believed to be responsible for the overheating of the vehicle. It was recommended that thermostat be replaced as a ã‚??precautionary measureã‚??. It was also stated that the situation was "uncommon". When questioned, I was told by the dealer that the distress indicators would not have been triggered off by this event. My question is simple: why not? is that not the purpose of the temperature gauge or thermostat indicator? I directed the dealer to review the fuses, switches and anything pertaining to the electronics of these indicators and was grossly informed that the events leading up to the failure of my car were no more "predictable or preventable" than "knowing when a light bulb in your home will blow". This commentary was both appalling and unprofessional. Furthermore, my vehicle will not be available to me until 5/1/06 (6 days since the towing), I was informed that I will have to pay an estimated cost of $500 for repairs, estimated $300 in rental car fees, not to mention the 26k+ that was paid to purchase the vehicle 2 1/2 years ago. . . . . . . . .

3 Cooling Fan problem of the 1996 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 08/26/2005

Purchased 1996 Dodge Intrepid in may 2005. Following week had to take car back to dealer brakes, to no avail. A mechanic stated brakes will need to be replaced. Was advised that tires were not in such great condition either. Kept hearing strange sounds (rattling noises) from the car. In August, smoke started coming from under the hood. Car would not steer at all. Had to take car to mechanic, who told us fan belt had come off while driving. Power steering pump had to be replaced and power steering line. He also advised that rack and pinion would need to be replaced. Finally, on August 26th, was getting in car to drive and did not get very far, when the car came to a sudden stop and made a loud noise. Got out of the car and found two bolts on the ground. Please help !!! distressed. Do we have any recourse here? have receipts, but do not have old parts.

4 Cooling Fan problem of the 1999 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 07/15/2005

1999 Intrepid ES, 114,000 miles. A/c stopped working. A/c fuse was intact, and a diagnosis of the compressor showed it was okay and full of freon. Further examination showed that the radiator fan/high fuse was blown, which was keeping the a/c compressor from coming on. Fuse was replaced, but blew again later. Radiator fan assembly was replaced which fixed both problems.

10 Cooling Fan problem of the 1999 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 08/04/2004

First one of the fans went then a few months later the other went. From about 60,000 miles, I have blew blue smoke coming out of the tailpipe had seals replaced but did no good. Still smoking. Transmission went out completly. The the 1st fan is going out again. (hint) the plastic fans are junk!! the 2. 7 liter is not enough for the Intrepid body I'm told . I'm planning on trading before we are stuck with another 2,000 repair bill on a vehicle kbbv at 2700.

Failure Date: 07/19/2004

1999 Dodge Intrepid water pump and timing chain failed. The vehicle would not start while at the gas station. The vehicle never ran hot or made loud noises and there were no indications of a problem. Chrysler was not willing to refund the consumer some or all of the monies spent on repairs. The a/c evaorator coil, fan resistor and trunk lock master cylinder which were all in perfect working order pror to being serviced at the dealership failed to work properly after vehicle was pick up from service. Dealership claimed problems were unrelated.

14 Cooling Fan problem of the 2001 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 02/02/2004

I'm a consumer and a victim of a failed 2. 7 liter engine. I purchased a 2001 Dodge Intrepid in June of 2001 it only had 100 miles on it at time of purchase. I had this car only 2years and 7months. I got to work pulled in the parking deck oil light comes on. I parked went in to work. Leaving the parking deck my car just shut down. No tapping no smoke or anything. I'm thinking this is just my battery. My husband came an tried the same thing. Pushed the car out of the road, and had a wrecker come and get the car took it to hansen Chrysler for repairs. He stated that it was the battery and he replaced the battery then he returned a call to me and stated that the engine may be sludged and he would have to charge me $84 to take off the gaskets and $84 to put them back on just to see what the problem was, but if I wanted to wait that the car was driving fine and I could come and get it but I don't know how long this engine would hold up. I went and got my car and drove off the lot. I got around the corner not even a half a mile away it shut off again in the middle of the road but this time the engine was tapping. Never since I've had this car had I heard any tapping until that day. I'm not sure what happened but now they're telling me that my engine is blown. I find out from the mechanic that these 2. 7 liter engines are not really good engines. The mechanic states that I would be looking at spending about 6 - 7,000 dollars on the engine along not even counting the labor. I don't have that type of money. I feel like I've been robbed. I have a car with only 64,555 miles and two years to pay on it and can't even drive it. I can't get anyone to take it as a trade in, so now I'm riding the bus and paying a car note. I'm seeking legal help. What am I to do?.

15 Cooling Fan problem of the 2002 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 08/11/2003

We have a 2002 Dodge Intrepid, we have replaced 2 fuses for the a/c and now they said it is the fan. The a/c man told us there was a recall on the caravans and the stratus. I feel that the Intrepid should be added. This is the second vehicle we have had this problem with. We had a Plymouth voyager and the same thing happened. I feel that you should check these vehicles concerning this.

16 Cooling Fan problem of the 1999 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 07/09/2003

My problems started out at a little over 49,000 miles. I was taking my children to school (in my pajamas!!!) & the car overheated. I had to call a tow truck & a friend to help me out with the kids & a ride. Turns out the cooling fan locked up. They replaced it, I was told later by a mechanic I should have been told to have the oil changed (even though it was not time) or they should have changed it because it overheated. 3 weeks later. . . Boom fan blows out again. . . Towed again. . . Fixed again. . . This time I had the oil changed!! couple weeks later, light turns green, I begin to accelerate, rpm's go crazy, car shuts down in the middle of an intersection (thank god I was not in my jammies that day!). Take it in to carmax, they tear it down, tell me sludge in the engine ruined the bearings, my $1500 extended warranty I bought did not cover it, & I now owe them $600 for the work they did to diagnose it!!! it was almost an entire year of paying $522 a month while watching it sit in my driveway. All the tires are now dry rotted. . . There is rust all over my rotors, my trim has dry rotted & peeled off from my windshield. . . So I get it fixed. . . $5623. 93 for yet another 2. 7l engine. . . . I will never buy a Dodge again. . . . Niether will any of my family or friends or CO-workers or any body else I can talk to about this!! car - $12,000 carmax - $600 warranty - $1500 a year of useless payments - $6264 new tires, trim, battery, etc. - $1000 towing - $300 engine replacement - $5623. 93 crappy car so I could go to work - $2500 the true cost of my 99 Intrepid - $29,787. 93 yup. . . . I got screwed!!!!!! thats alot of money to a family of 7!!!! Dodge needs to own up & make this right!!!!! tawnya mashburn tawnya74@aol. Com.

17 Cooling Fan problem of the 1999 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 05/23/2003

The air conditioner stopped blowing cold air and we took into dealer to service and were told that there was an electrical problem and the a/c fan and the radiator fan were seized. They cannot tell us why this would happen on a vehicle only 4 years old but could only say they "sell a lot of these fans on these vehicles and the stratus vehicles. " this sounds like to me that it is a problem with a defective part rather than something the customers should have to buy "a lot of" . . .

18 Cooling Fan problem of the 1998 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 05/22/2003

Me car was purchased used 1/16/03, since purchase, have had several serious problems; idler pulley warped, broke power steering belt while on road cooling fan motor went out on passenger side of car -the engine in my 1998 Dodge Intrepid blew -up when I was on the expressway in a construction zone (one lane of traffic). I was told by several local auto mechanics and Dodge dealerships that these engines are notorious for this problem. The power steering and braking quit when engine quit. 20 Cooling Fan problem of the 1999 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 01/24/2003

My cooling system fan motors both went out and froze up with only 46000 miles on a 1999 Dodge Intrepid. After further investigation into the problem I found on the internet that several people have had the same problem with their Intrepid's.

21 Cooling Fan problem of the 1998 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 02/10/2002

I have a 1998 Dodge Intrepid, and it already needs an engine after only 65,000 miles of service. The car has been in this condition since February 2002, when it began running hot. The Chrysler dealer said that it needed an engine and also cooling fan components. This car is less than five years old and less then 65,000 miles, there is no reason that a well made car should need an engine at this point. From just the complaints on NHTSA's site of other consumer complaints with the same problem, the engine should be recalled, and fixed by Chrysler.

22 Cooling Fan problem of the 1996 Dodge Intrepid

Low speed radiator cooling fan continues to run poorly, and at times fails to run at all.
