Purchased car on 8/11/14, drove it home and on 8/12/14 started car and say gas spraying out of injectors on top of motor. All injector seals were bad and had to be replaced, same with valve cover gaskets oil was running down on exhaust manifolds. Both were fire hazards, 8/27/14, right side axle is bad and bearing in differential is bad. This car has a 4/15 inspection sticker on windshield, how could this car pass the va state inspection with this many problems? and all brake pads had to be replaced. They were worn out to.

2001 Dodge Intrepid. Oil light began flashing. Checked the oil it was full. About 2 days later a light ticking noise occurred. On 2/16/2007, I started the vehicle and ticking noise, turned into knocking noise. Mechanic stated that the car experience an oil failure and through a rod in the engine. $4,500. 00 to fix.
The contact owns a 2001 Dodge Intrepid. While driving 74 mph with the cruise control feature activated, smoke appeared out of the back of the tail pipe. The contact pulled off the road, opened the hood, and found the oil dipstick to be dark brown in color. The dealer stated that the engine was blown and needed to be replaced. The vehicle is currently under an extended warranty; however, the manufacturer stated that there was no guarantee that it would be used for this sort of failure. The failure and current mileages were 84,000.
My 2. 7 v-6 engine in my Dodge Intrepid blew up because of a timing chain failure do to sludge in the motor due to a engine design defect. The car was well maintained. All service records are available for review. I was left stranded on the road at night in a bad neighborhood.

I bought two 2004 Dodges:intrepid w/3. 5 l. & stratus w/2. 7 l. From g. S. A. Auction in June 2007. From day 1 of owing them. I kept getting check engine light on with fault codes concerning intermittent camshaft position sensor faults on both of them, and engine bucking. Then the check engine light will disappear. This will happen randomly. Now I face a dilemma with the state emissions testing. I have checked the circuits concerning this problem. , but the situation remained the same.
Had short block replaced by warranty, timing chain let go one night just off the highway which was not covered by the warranty. After not being able to drive it for the last 2 years, I just paid it off !!!!.
On 3/17/04 we had our 2000 Dodge Intrepid (mileage 45700 )2. 7 liter engine repaired at iron river Chrysler, inc. . They removed & replaced the timing chain tensioner reinstalled intake manifold & valve cover. I paid $703. 91 for repairs. On 10/31/04 ( with 55260 miles) the chain tensioner failed again. Iron river Chrysler fixed it and this time it was covered under warranty . On 12/21/05 the car would not start and was towed to a different station. They told us it was the timing chain again. They called us a day later and told us the bolt that held the timing chain backed out and there was no loctite on the threads. When the bolt backed out the timing chain let loose and caused extensive damage to the valves and heads. We then went back to iron river Chrysler and told them about the car. They told us there are issues about the 2. 7 liter engine which is in our car and that the timing chain was no longer under the 12,000 - 12 month warranty. I feel that this problem was due to the cause of negligence of iron river Chrysler garage.
: the contact stated while driving 70 mph, the vehicle would not accelerate with the accelerator pedal depressed. The vehicle began to decelerate on its own and was pulled over. There was a loud pop from the engine. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop where it was determined the main head gasket blew and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was towed to the dealership, which agreed with the determination of the repair shop. The vehicle was towed to an auto body shop and a used engine with 35,000 miles on it was installed.
The contact stated initially there was gray smoke coming out of the tail pipe. The vehicle was taken to the dealership, and there was a leak in the oil pan. The oil pan was replaced in March 2005. Then, on August 31, 2005, the check engine light came on right before the vehicle died. The vehicle was towed to the dealership, and they found the head gaskets blew out. There had been no oil leaks, and the oil had just been changed. The contact was told a that all of the 2. 7l engines were bad, and they were unable to fix the contact's vehicle.
I had only owned the car for a week, and there was an awful ticking noise coming from the engine, as well as excessive burning of oil from my tail pipe. I have to put about a quart and a half into the engine every other day. I was driving my car on a busy interstate and my car started making this awful loud ticking noise, the oil light fluttered, and the engine stopped. I pulled over to check out the oil level, finding the engine bone dry. I had put two quarts in it that morning, only driving 30 miles before this happened. The car has not been repaired because, like many people, I cannot afford a repair costing between 2,500 and 4,000 dollars to fix. So many complaints have been shown on these 99 Dodge Intrepids, I just hope that NHTSA can help prevent this problem of risking peoples lives.
2002 Dodge intripid blew it's engine 2. 7 on 07/002/05 on hwy 50 while I was driving with my daughter in the car. It has been 14 days and the car is still at the dealers not fixed. We are still in a rental while they decide if my car will be fixed. We had to drive apx 2 miles as slow as 5-15 miles per hour to get off the hwy. The service writer says the problem is oil sludge. I think the engine is a hazard to human life and any other vehicle on the highway.

I have 68,000 miles on my 1999 Dodge Intrepid 2. 7 liter engine and after one month since the last service and after being serviced religiously every 3,000 miles I am now being given an estimate to replace the engine in the amount of $5,000 to $7,000. I don't even think the blue book on the car is even that high now. Basically, the mechanic said the coolant and oil in the car were completely gone and with it now having the knocking noise needs an engine replacement. Went to the Dodge dealership locally and they admitted it was not the best of their engines, but nevertheless they indicated since it is past the warranty period of 36,000 there wasn't much they could do. They tried to suggest that the servicing I received may have been faulty and I pointed out that would be hard pressed to think that, because the car was serviced one month prior and to have all coolant and 5 quarts of oil disappear without any of the obvious signs could not warrant that suggestion. I explained that regardless of the servicing that in one month there should have been some indication, such as oil service light indicator, engine service light, smells, oil leaks on driveway, blue smoke from tail pipe, etc. To at least indicate a problem that may need correction, but there was never an indication. I explained to the dealership, if I weren't servicing my car that I could sort of side with them, but the point is I did what was necessary to prolong the useful life of this car and at no fault of mine the engine has failed much sooner than it should and without any warning.
Own 1999 Dodge Intrepid with 60,000 miles. The oil light continued to illuminate. However, kept oil changed regularly. Wife was driving home, and the vehicle locked up in the middle of the road. Was able to restart and make it to the side of the road and was towed. Took vehicle to service dealer, and they diagnosed as the crank shaft bearings were worn out, and were not receiving oil. This happened all the time with these motors. Builds up sludge within the motor. After inspection, recommended a new motor. The value of car is $4,000 and the motor costs $5,000. After the new motor was ordered changed mind, was charged $800 for restocking fee and car is still not repaired.
2000 Dodge Intrepid with 2. 6l engine, 51,500 miles. Driving very slowly in residential neighborhood car shut down and rolled to a stop. No warning lights came on. Atempted restart, engine turned over making a metallic clicking sound. Had car towed to shop and told that engine needs to be replaced. At least one valve is bent and damaged and large metal fragments are in intake manifold. Oil has been changed regularly between 3,ooo and 4,000 miles. Repair estimate is 4-5k. Engines are not supposed to blow at 51,000 miles, this is a flawed design.
While driving consumer noticed smoke coming from the tail pipe of the vehicle. The check engine light illuminated. Consumer took the vehicle into a mechanic, and mechanic stated that the vacuum hose had come loose. The mechanic placed the vacuum hose back onto the vehicle. A couple of days later, engine light illuminated again. That's when the consumer found out there was sludge build up in the engine.
Consumer noticed smoke coming from the tail pipe. The check engine light illuminated. Consumer took the vehicle to a mechanic, who determined that vacuum hose disengaged. Mechanic placed the vacuuim hose back on. A few days later. The engine light illuminated again. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, who determined that engine had sludge build up in it.
(1) it started with the engine heating with any reason then blue smoke coming from the muffler and eventually it started to make a load noise. (2) it has a black oily sludge on the engine block, the oil pump is damaged and the valves. (3) I've replaced the oil pump, water pump and the air conditioning compresor.
My wife was driving the car and it suddenly stopped working causing her to be in the middle of a multi-lane road and in danger of being hit by rush hour traffic. The car was towed to the auto shop where they discovered the water pump had broken, causing metal fragments to fall into the oil pan. The timing chain jumped a gear on the water pump and causing the engine to quit working without warning. The car is a 2001 Dodge Intrepid with a 2. 7l v6 engine. The car has 59,009 miles. Parts required to repair the damage include: camshaft sensor, valve cover gasket, upper manifold gasket, timing chain tensioner, water pump, both cam shaft sensors.
I bought 2000 Dodge on6/09/2001 with 24269 miles on it also bought exteneded warranty . On oct. 4,2001 input sensor went out of it. Now on sept. 4,2004 the output sensor went out. Car only has 58122 miles now. I bought car at whlteys automall and they say sensors are not covered on this car. I think these companys are ripping comsumers off. This car has been taken care of. Dodge has a problem with these sensors and they should do a recall on them. Thank you for your time. I would like to know how many other people have had problems with this kind of thing.
Engine is failing due to sludge in the motor. Is emitting white smoke from tail pipe and is destined for complete failure anytime. Check engine light blinks from time to time and is rough starting sometimes. I feel there should be a recall on this motor to restore it before someone gets killed. I will never own another Dodge product and have lost all faith in this company. They are just out for the money and could care less about the safety of their customers!!! I am willing to join in a lawsuit! just contact me.
While driving consumer noticed smoke coming from the rear. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection.
My wife was driving the car and it stopped. We took it to the dealer the company we bought the warrenty from won't pay because there was sludge in the motor. We only had the car 8 months. The oi l& filter was changed. The car as been at the dealerfor 4 months.
Driving home one night and the my 1999 Dodge itrepid 2. 7l v6 just stalled on me. It was taken to a local mechanic who at first baffled what was worn. After doing some reasearch on the engine he realized what a problem these engines are and how Chrysler cares nothing about fixing them. Just some minor checking was done and the mechanic found there was no compression in the number5 cylinder and the air was going straight through to the exhaust. Nothing has been done since then and I still deciding what to do with my vehicle.
Engine oil sludge due to malfunctioning of oil pump (and thus low oil pressure) combined with an overheating manifold. Engine rendered useless. Car was just 3 years old, 64,000 miles and properly maintained. No current recall in effect on the part though there ought to be.
Engine stopped running on freeway lost all power top car.
Sludge build up in engine. I also have a cracked piston. Car started smoking from tail pipe so I took it to a mechanic and he said I would need a new engine ($5,000). Car has been sitting in drive way for 3 months now. Have contacted lawyer to file class action lawsuit.
I was driving my Dodge 2000 Intrepid and suddenly without warning my car started making a loud noise and smoke was coming out from under the hood and the tail pipe of my car. My car stalled and the power steering and brakes locked up. My car was towed to the Dodge dealership and I was later told that my engine had failed due to a sludge problem. I was told that my car's warranty had expired even through I have 2,000 miles left for the 36,000 mile warranty. I was told because I purchased the car in December 1999 my warranty was for three years or 36,000 miles which ever comes first. I made a phone call to the manufacturer to see if there was any recalls, since I had moved from my previous address, but there was not. I could not believe that this engine failure was due to something I did. I contacted a repair shop to find out the cost of repair. The repair person called me back and I was told that the manufacturer of a rebuild engine company was aware of a defective engine that caused a sludging problem and premature engine failure. The engine is a 2. 7 liter that Chrysler made between the years of 1998,1999 and 2000 and that the engine design had changed in 2001. I then went on line and discovered that I am not the only one with this problem there are quite a few people pursuing Chrysler corporation for the same problem and there is also a class action lawsuit regarding the matter. I am now faced with this out-of-pocket expense and am looking at approximately $4,700. 00 in replacement costs. This is placing a severe hardship on me. I am a dislocated worker and am presently living off of unemployment compensation and have recently went back to school for retraining. This is my sole source of transportation. I am also in the process of finding out how I can become invovled in a class action lawsuit that others have filed against Chrysler in the hopes that I can gain some compensation or reimbursement for my loses.
54,000 mi. Changed regularly at a local chevron station. Sudden engine failure: water pump & oil pump went out and head gasket blew. Repair cost (estimate/quote): $4,850 - $5,000.
Intrepid se 2. 7l, automatic transmission, 98,000 miles bought a beautiful 1999 Dodge Intrepid from a very reputable dealer. I immediately began having problems, like "sensors" needing to be replaced but I thought, eh, at $5,000 I stole this car. After only 2 months of driving the engine seized up while I was in traffic! I was almost rear ended by a car behind me as I crossed an intersection. I had driven this car only about 3000 miles when it locked up on me. During that time I had changed the oil once just like I was supposed to. I did not drive this car hard, I am a very safe driver. After having the car towed at my expense to a mechanic, after running a typical spark, fuel and compression test, I was told by the mechanic that he had to tear the engine completely down to find the problem. After two days the mechanic called and said that the engine was blown, a piston was seized and the exhaust valves were burnt. So I paid $5000 to ryan's engine exchange in colorado springs to get a rebuilt engine, all at my own expense. I bought the new engine in March of 2003, it is now September 2007 and my car just stopped running again! I took it to a mechanic and he says that the cylinder has lost compression and that it is leaking air from a leak test into the intake manifold. Bottom line, I need a new engine again! this on a engine that only has 54000 miles on it and which the oil has been changed and maintenance performed religiously by the dealer. I am a single mother of one with one on the way and have no car to drive to work and may lose my job!.
We started to experience a fluid leak on the car. The dealer, upon examining the car, determined that the intake manifold was leaking. They also determined that 2 bolts involved in that installation had sheared. There had been no work done on that area of the car. Having only 55,000 miles it seems preposterous that this is anything other than a manufacturing defect. I have contacted Dodge and they had no interest in this situation at all. Dt.
