14s05 recall, code b2278 lost power assist system luckily I was not on the highway. I was driving in a neighborhood at less then 20mph. I have 154,000 miles on my car. This failure made it nearly impossible for me to steer my car. If I had been on a mildly busy street and needed to turn at an intersection I would not have been able to do it. I was moments from getting on the highway and can not imagine how I could have had any control of the vehicle. Ford should be replacing all the failed torque sensor. Should be a class action lawsuit!.
The electric power steering stopped working 3 times while driving my daughter had to put the flasher on and muscle the car to the side of the road the last time she was almost hit by another car. At the same time the radio and fdim would come on erratically and really loud. Took the car to larry h miller Ford in slc utah they charged her 90. 00 which she never agreed to, reprogrammed the car only and replaced no parts. Larry miller Ford sent my daughter out with a car that is not safe, the radio and fdim still go off and on in a startling fashion and knowing that this problem will most likely occur again. I just want the car fixed so all safety hazards are addressed.
The electric power steering went out with no warning and almost caused an accident as there was no way to control the direction of the vehicle. Ford had a recall on some of these models but did not include all models. This problem is the same as the problem that was recalled on the same models but limited by VIN #. This could have been a major threat to human life had the operator not had the strength to over come the lack of power steering. Ford should have recalled all vehicles in this model knowing there was a problem with the escape/mariner steering system.

After driving less than a mile from home on a cold day, I was stopped to turn left with the steering wheel turned hard left. The steering wheel forced itself back right with significant force. I couldn't turn it back right so I turned off the ignition. When I turned it back on the steering behaved normally. I took it to a mechanic who performed an inspection and checked the computer codes. That report is attached. The report states that the fault codes indicated a problem with the torque/angle sensor and steering control module. This problem, should it occur while moving could cause an accident and possible death. Since my VIN number is not covered by the existing recalls for this type of problem, I would like the NHTSA to investigate and add my VIN to the recall 14v284000 or 14s05.
While I was driving during colder weather suddenly it lost complete steering power this resulted in very hard steering. This occurred a few more times. There was no warning lights prior to this happening and no warning lights during the failure.
Was making a right hand turn and power steering locked up in middle of the street , with cars coming in both directions nearly got hit . . . . Had to use extreme force to steer car to side of street. . . . . Power steering module went bad.
My vehicle was in park and I started it. The 'power steering assist fault' alert sounded and displayed. I could not physically steer the car and my husband had to drive the car home. We took it to our usual mechanic, who ran diagnostics and found dtc b2278. He did not want to replace it, and suggested we look into a recall. He even provided the recall number which appeared applicable. Our vehicle was manufactured at the kansas city plant during the manufacture time frame of recall 14s05, but our VIN does not show eligible for the recall. We believe it should be included in recall 14s05, since that specific recall was for this exact problem, known to occur on vehicles manufactured at that plant during that timespan. I would like to know the exact reason my vehicle is not currently included in recall 14s05. I would like to know specifically which criteria is used to decide which VIN numbers are eligible for this recall.
Sunday afternoon around approximately 3pm (10/21/2018) I was driving and my steering wheel became stiff without any warning, and I was unable to move it. In the car with me was my friend, and myself. On the first instance this day, I was pulling into a parking lot, and without warning my car beeped twice, and the steering wheel went completely stiff. Thankfully, I was able to just park where I was, turn the car off and back on, and the problem seemed to be gone. About 15 minutes later, as I was in the intersection coming out of that parking lot, my steering went out again. There were no lights on the dashboard, and no beeping occurred. I could not move the wheel, and I was traveling in the direction of other vehicles that were turning, and I was very close to hitting them. Again, thankfully, I was able to get to a spot straight ahead to park and I ended up leaving my car there overnight. My friend and I almost wrecked in a busy 4-way intersection due to a manufacturer mistake, as I have recognized online through multitudes of other complaints for similar situations. This is dangerous. Someone needs to take responsibility, as the vehicle (a 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid), gave me no warning whatsoever before the steering wheel seized up.
This car steering gets locked while driving and gets very hard while turning.
Power steering just went out. No warning until it was out. I was on my way to work driving and the power steering just went out completely. Almost caused an accident when it went out do to how hard it is to steer! it's not hydraulic system. It's all electric assist steering. There are many other people with this same issue. Some mechanics could not find the issue. Including people that have taken it to a Ford dealership. Some people have spent over $1,000 and the issue has came back within a few months. Also this issue has caused some accidents. Ford needs to find the problem and fix it on all cars!.
