This model of Ford Expedition advertises that infant car seats, convertible car seats, booster seats, and high back booster seats could be accommodated in 4 of their seats. However, the third row has automatic seat folding and headrest folding features which make it impossible to remove the third row headrests. When placing a high back booster seat in one of the third rows, the seat does not sit flush in accordance with the car seat instructions because the headrest is not flush with the seat. Since you cannot remove the headrest, there is no possible way to safely install this particular type of car seat. In my conversation with Ford they are now aware of the problem, but are unwilling to make any changes or purchase the car back. I purchased the car 3 months ago in anticipation of having a 3rd child. It is required that I put a high back booster seat safely in the 3rd row to accommodate my children, yet I cannot do that safely. I am taking the car with the seat to the police station tomorrow to see if they can put in writing that there is no way to safely install the seat.

The driver's headrest (and front passenger headrest) is set at such a forward angle that my head is pushed forward, causing pain in my neck. After talking with an orthopedic about the probably longterm issues with pressure on my head caused by the headrest, I was assured of creating a chronic physical neck problem. The headrest angle needs to be adjusted/tilted back slightly to provide just enough space for normal head movement while driving without constant contact with the headrest.

Front seat headrests are intolerable. Have never driven a vehicle that caused such severe discomfort due to positioning of head rests. Needs ability to adjust tilt forward and back. Fixed position is angled forward way too much. Very distracting while driving. Please help?!.

The standard headrest in the 2011 Ford Expedition protrudes forward so much that I cannot sit with my back and shoulders leaning to the back of the seat without pushing my head forward, causing upper back and neck pain. I've driven the car two days and my neck hurts. The dealership offered no solution to the problem and my internet research showed that many other face the same challenge. Some are removing the headrest, while others are bending them back. Neither sounds safe to me and it seems Ford could correct this problem.

2009 Ford Expedition- front driver and passenger headrest are completely ineffective and misaligned. Would cause severe injury in an accident and currently cause neck strain on a daily basis.

Severe neck pain due to driver and front passenger head rests in 2011 Ford Expedition. The extreme angle of the front headrests in the new Ford Expeditions cause excessive stress and strain on the necks of individuals occupying these seats. Ford has turned the headrests around to alleviate this condition which is unsafe and potentially life threatening.
The headrests for the driver and passenger seats are quite uncomfortable. We did not notice while test driving, since neither of us sat in the passenger seat, but on the drive home I was in the passenger seat trying to rest my head against the headrest and found it uncomfortable. In the days to come, my wife found it more so. Our workaround has been to insert a neck pillow at the base of the headrest. We contacted Ford 800#, and the response was that the headrest was designed with the angle forward like that for safety, and they could do nothing about it. They did not seem to be aware of the problem, even though many people have posted complaints about this 'feature' on the web. Apparently it is not even new for the 2011 model year. For me, it is annoying; for my wife, intolerable.
The headrest on the 2011 Ford Expedition are horrendous and uncomfortable. I work for the fire dept. And I use this vehicle 12 to 16 hours a day, along with other employee's. The angle of the new headrest is very uncomfortable and there is no possible adjustment to get into a comfortable position. I have tried to raise/lower the seat and change the position of the seat to no avail. Thanks to this "new design" on the headrest I am taking ibuprofen daily at work. My chevy tahoe is more comfortable. My dept has 3 other Ford's with this style headrest and everyone complains about it. Ford needs to correst this problem and replace the headrest at no cost to the buyers. Fyi. . Also our first responder car was purchased in June 2011 - at 850 miles we had to replace the main computer already!!!! great job Ford.
The headrest angle of my 2011 Ford Expedition is extremely uncomfortable. Should Ford be required to give or sell me a headrest that does not hurt me?.
Tl -the contact owns a 2011 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that the angle on the headrest was making it difficult for the contact to position himself comfortably while driving. The dealer and manufacturer were notified of the issue but did not assist the contact. The failure was not repaired. The failure mileage was 13,000 and the current mileage was 20,000. Kmj.
Headrests for driver's and passenger's seats are at an acute inward angle forcing improper sitting position in seat and pointing the head downward.

I just want to report how uncomfortable the headrest in the Ford Expedition are. They are tilted way to far forward.
2010 Ford Expedition headrest design is extremely uncomfortable. Angle is too far forward. I have constant upper back and neck pain since buying this vehicle in may 2010. The dealer has no solution to alter or replace factory parts. Ford needs to replace this defective part immediately!.
The two front headrests are at an acute angle towards the front of the vehicle and preclude the driver/rider from sitting upright without tilting his head considerably forward. Riding like this for any length of time causes a very bad neck ache and prevents the driver/rider from being able to look up. The only solutions are to remove the headrest or to turn the headrest around. Both of these totally defeat the purpose of the headrest to prevent whiplash.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Expedition. The contact test drove another 2010 Expedition vehicle and noticed that the head restraint was positioned where her head and chin is hitting her chest. Ford let her know that the 2010 vehicle will be different where now she has to position it where she can observe traffic in an uncomfortable position . She has experienced pain to her neck and chest. The dealer was contacted and they stated that they could not make an modifications since they were not approved for the safety standards. The failure mileage was 2 and the current mileage was 5800. The contact owns a 2010 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that the front driver and passenger head rests are at an acute angle. This angle disabled the occupants from being properly positioned in the seats. He notified the manufacturer; however, he was advised by a representative that the angle was the normal design of the vehicle. The failure mileage was 3 and the current mileage was 154. Updated 10/13/09.
The contact owns a 2008 Ford Expedition. The second row seat's headrests in the upright position have the foam facing forward and the plastic facing the rear. During abrupt stops, a passenger's head would strike the plastic instead of the foam. The contact believed that this was a manufacturer defect. He returned to Ford and they discovered that all of the headrests were installed in reverse. The current and failure mileages were 237. *updated 12/12/07
