9 Instrument Panel problem of the 2000 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/13/2008

While driving the vehicle the speedometer intermittently drops to 0 while the vehicle is moving. The odometer reads all dash marks and the vehicle shifts roughly. I was told that it is due to the speed sensor being bad. This has happened on more than one occasion and the dealership has given a different excuse why the sensor failed each time.

10 Instrument Panel problem of the 2002 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/08/2008

There were no injuries or crashes, however my speedometer reading stops working and I do not know how fast I am going. When this happens my odometer stops working too. Since the odometer stops working, this gives a false reading on how far I have been traveling. In other words if the odometer stops at 500 miles and then it starts working ten miles later, it picks up at 500. I do not know what the true reading is anymore. I have had so many malfunctions that I do no know the true readings of my odometer.

12 Instrument Panel problem of the 2003 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 02/21/2008

I own a 2003 Ford Focus zx3 with 27,000 miles. For the past year and a half the dashboard lights go out suddenly. This is not a fuse problem, as the way to get them back on is to turn off the headlights and then turn them back on. Often this problem will occur several times during one trip; at other times it will "solve" the problem for months. It has happened on high-speed highways and it is disconcertingly dangerous, especially when it is critical to know one's speed. I believe (from the internet) that others have had this problem with the Focus. Ford, however, did not acknowledge a problem, or how to fix it other than taking it to a dealer at my expense.

13 Instrument Panel problem of the 2007 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 11/23/2007

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Focus. The contact stated that there was a windshield defect because it was not intact. The sealant was placed on the roof of the vehicle, which contributed to the faulty windshield. She also stated that there was an alignment issue that caused the vehicle to steer to the left while driving 70 mph. The vehicle mats were steamed by the dealer and never dried. As a result, the windows were frosted inside the passenger compartment. The contact found rust in the dashboard components and the fuse box. The current mileage was 897 and failure mileage was 692.

14 Instrument Panel problem of the 2000 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/19/2007

The contact owns a 2000 Ford Focus. The instrument panel indicators and tail lights failed to illuminated. The contact replaced the fuse and bulbs but the failure continued. The contact stated that the vehicle should be included in recall # 06e026000. The dealer stated that the vehicle was excluded from the recall. The current and failure mileage were 103,000.

15 Instrument Panel problem of the 2001 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 11/10/2004

The contact owns a 2001 Ford Focus. The contact stated that the side view mirror on the vehicle was repaired and the transmission also slipped. After the repairs were complete, the vehicle did not drive the same. The dealer stated that the parts needed were not in stock and they kept the vehicle for one month. In addition, whenever the left turn signal was activated, the vehicle would shut off entirely. The lights were replaced; however, the vehicle continued to lose power whenever the signal lights, hazard lights, or air conditioning were activated. The headlights continued to short and, while driving at night, the high beams had to be activated. The seat belt in the rear driver's seat was inoperable and the driver's seat continued to move backwards from the steering wheel. She also stated that the key can be removed from the ignition while the vehicle is in motion and while the ignition is on. Finally, none of the warning lights on the instrument panel are functional. The failure mileage was 23,000 and current mileage was 95,000.

While driving the consumer noticed that the instrument panel gauges were in operative. She could not tell how fast she was driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic informed the driver that the instrument panel needed to be replaced. On some occasions when the speedometer failed the odometer also stopped working and the vehicle idled erratically. At times when the clutch was pressed while stopping the engine would die which resulted in loss of power. The fuel gauge was also unstable and as a result the consumer is never sure how much fuel is in the vehicle.

Failure Date: 06/15/2003

When driving at an undetermined speed, the consumer heard a popping noise coming from the rear driver's seat. The consumer noticed that, the instrument panel lights would flick on and off. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealership for inspection. Please provide any further details.

Failure Date: 05/03/2001

While attempting to park, the vehicle took off and accelerated without any warning. The vehicle took off going through the back wall of the garage. The air bags did deploy. On another occasion, the vehicle was serviced for check engine light which was on. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and a chip was replaced.
