At 50 thousand miles on my vehicle a maintainance technician noticed two missing bolts in the front coupling of the rear drive shaft. There were also loose bolts in the real coupe long. A call to Chrysler customer care reveals that the company will not pay for this repair. Had the drive shaft come loose at highway speed it would have caused catastrophic los of life, limb or property. This problem needs to be addressed as a national recall. The Chrysler customer care complaint number is 578 216 92.

Went to my mechanic a few weeks ago and he told me that my front drive shaft is broken. He did not see any physical damage as to why it broke. When we were researching prices for drive shafts we noticed that there was a recall on it in 2013. We purchased the vehicle in Feb 2013 and never received a recall notice.

The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Liberty. While the vehicle was in reverse, the contact heard a grinding/popping noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. It was noticed that the transfer heat shield detached and rubbed against the driveshaft. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 13v121000 (air bags, power train, structure). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 194,232.
A day before thanksgiving. I was driving during a snow storm. My car wont go into 4x4 causing me to loose control. Had it fixed in Feb 2015 for $680. 00. Replace the driveshaft. Now that it is happening again. On Nov 2 til now 13, 2015* still same problem. It is so much noise and lot of vibration. When I make a turn right it is quiet and no vibration but going left make it worse. On a reverse that even worse almost cant reverse at all. Driving on the highway at some speed it get quiet and no vibration but will return that horrible noise and vibration.
This vehicle has had the sunroof leak, the heat shield bracket rusted/broke and came loose from the auto and hit the drive shaft, and the air conditioner does not blow out on the correct vents, the air bag light comes on and off,.
The front drive shaft and differentail assembly locked up causing the car to shake violently and smoke from oil coming from the busted seal . Luckly the driver was able to stop immediately on a busy interstate. This is very uncommon according to 2 dealers and 3 repair garages, obviously a defective part. There had been no leakage in the past 2 months or shaking/swaying when driving at any speed checked and there has been a back order on this part from Dodge for the past 3-4 months so there seems to be a problem. We were lucky this defective part did not cause a terrible accident I called Chrysler they said this has not been recalled, but reiterated this was very uncommon.

The contact owns a 2005 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated that while driving various speeds with the 4x4 activated, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The vehicle was taken to dealer, who diagnosed that the drive shaft needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 126,000.
Chrysler safety recall n10 / NHTSA 13v-121 underbody transmission tunnel shield may separate and rub driveshaft causing driveshaft to break. In turn this could cause a crash without warning. Original letter concerning the recall received over thirty days ago. Letter advising that dealers have parts and to schedule appointment received one week ago dealer in lexington, nc still does not have parts and is not sure when they will be received. Very concerned since teenage daughter drives car every day to work and school.
1) backed out of driveway and the transmission failed to engage then slammed into gear, 2) stopped at an intersection pressed on the throttle vehicle paused and then slammed into gear (has done this several times)and has continued this behavior intermittently. It has been to the dealership 5 times. Dealer and Chrysler state that this is because of the vehicle being on an incline and it has an electronic throttle and transmission state there is not a problem and they are not going to fix it the dealership (advantage Chrysler in mount dora florida told me if I didn't like the response take it somewhere else. Each time it does this it slams into gear and puts stress on the u joints, drive shaft, and rear end not to mention the damage to the transmission. The vehicle still has less than 4000 miles on it.
The contact owns a 2004 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated hat the protective booth cover for the drive shaft was missing and would need to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified and a claim was filed. The manufacturer offered no further assistance. The failure mileage was 140,000.

The 2012 Jeep Liberty automatic transmission "clunks" severely when upshifting or downshifting. A loud "clunk" is noted at either the transmission or driveshaft u-joint. I took the vehicle to the Jeep dealership and technicians replicated the discrepancy. The technician also tried another vehicle (a different model with the same type transmission) that was on the lot and it too, had this loud "clunk". The dealership contacted Chrysler, and were told by Chrysler that Chrysler is aware of this problem, but has no "fix" or "repair" for this problem. One of these days, the transmission is going to fail or a u-joint is going to fail which could result in a serious accident. And Chrysler already knows about this discrepancy!!! this happened on a 2012 Jeep Liberty that is brand new and now has 5,000 miles on it and it continues to happen.
Two years ago my Jeep started making metallic grinding sounds and violently shaking uncontrollably. I looked under my car at the front drive shaft to see it breaking apart from the inside out. I notified Chrysler and after a long conversation they agreed to fix it admitting it was a faulty part. Yesterday the noises and shaking came back with the newly replaced front drive shaft. Chrysler admits its a unfair situation but refuses to replace there faulty part once again. This will cause a accident as it will happen unexpectedly. Thank you for taking my complaint.
I backed my Jeep Liberty sport into a turn around area, needed to put it in 4 wheel drive. I put it in 4 wheel hi, then pulled forward. Once I was out of the turn around area I put it back in 2 wheel drive. As I was driving down the road the vehicle was driving very sluggish. I stopped to make sure nothing was stuck in the tires or in the wheel wells. I continued driving and it did not want to go above 40 miles an hour. After about 10 minutes I heard a rather loud popping sound, followed by what sounded like a chain being dragged under the vehicle. I stopped to look under it but didn't see anything, so I slowly made my way towards home. After another few minutes it was basically undrivable, so I stopped at a friends house and got a ride home. After taking it to the mechanics they told me the front drive shaft had broken in half. I got that repaired just to be told that the rear pinion is shot and needs to be replaced as well. The vehicle had been fine up till that point, and I had used 4 wheel drive on other occassions. Now for some reason after using it this time I had a $600 bill to replace the front drive shaft and what I am being told is at least another $600 to $900 bill for the rear pinion. Anyone else have any issues with this?.
The contact owns a 2005 Jeep Liberty. While driving approximately 55 mph, the contact heard a loud rumble as the vehicle abnormally tilted toward the passenger side. The vehicle was towed to the contact's home for inspection by an independent mechanic. The mechanic stated that the front driveshaft was fractured and would have to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was repaired a second time. The approximate failure mileage was 82,000.
My 21 year old daughter was driving my 2006 Liberty on the northern parkway in westbury, NY on January 2, 2008. The car was purchased in July 2006 and has approximately 15,500 miles on it. Suddenly and without warning the wheels locked up ripping out the transfer case and dropping the drive shaft on the highway. The car behind her was damaged as it ran over the drive train components. The driver of the damaged car saw flames coming out from under the Liberty and a cloud of black smoke. (probably from the gear oil). Fortunately the Liberty veered into the breakdown lane and not into another travel. No one was injured. The Liberty was towed to westbury Jeep. Initially I met with the service manager and he indicated the repairs would be made under warranty. After 12 days he phone me and said . . . Either the car hit something or it was driven in 4wd low on the highway. Neither of these occurred and Jeep does not acknowledge a problem with vehicle and will not cover the repairs under warranty. I phoned Chrysler and they won?t even send a rep to look at the vehicle. Chrysler contacted the dealer and repeated what the dealer said. The Chrysler service rep would not provide another contact saying she was trained to handle these situations. She also said there are no tsbs or recalls for my Liberty which apply. I am frustrated and stonewalled by both the westbury Jeep and Chrysler.

There is a problem with the front drive shaft have been looking on internet to see if can find part and this looks like it has been a problem since at least 2005 with these vehicles I know mine has a rip in the boot and the front drive shaft has a lot of play in it I don't know if it could lock up and flip the vehicle or not but it really can not be all the safe and also the locks not working properly on them this is also a ongoing problem but mainly the drive shaft. You put it in four wheel drive and it sounds like you are going up a hill on a old wooden roller coaster would best describe it. The vehicle is not taken four wheeling only used when it snows and I have to use it.
My 2005 Jeep Liberty with 44,000 miles has both lower control arms rust out, the right side rear lower control arm has buckled due to this corrosion and nearly cause an accident. The vehicle has not been abused or modified in any way that would cause this premature corrosion. The driveshaft also has sever rust and perhaps there are more parts that I could not see that are exhibit premature corrosion. The vehicle is garage kept and I don't snow plow or off road this vehicle.
Consumer has had to replace shocks, drive shaft, brakes and all four tires since purchase. The tires were worn and the noisy were struts, a constant thumping sound was heard when the vehicle was in motion, creaking noise were coming from the front of the vehicle when going over bumps due to the front sway bar bushings, the regulator on the passenger door was noisy, the handle on the passenger door was loose, grinding noise on the front passenger side, the passenger front door's weather strip was coming off, loud noise coming from the rear differential bearings, excessive play in the front tie ends, water under the driver's side carpet, rattling in the speaker on the passenger side, when in 4th high and 4th low, the vehicle felt as if it were in neutral, the cigarette lighter was inoperative, the was a squeak in the steering wheel when turning, the engine idled loud, the vehicle would jump when shifting into gear, there was a delay when braking, the axle boot was leaking.
Excessive driveline vibration and noise under load/acceceration. Differential. Been to dealer twice with no repairs. Noise getting progressevly worse. Jeep shakes violently above 80 mph-2004 Jeep Liberty 4/wheel drive.
The first incident happened back when I first got my Jeep right before the warranty was about to expire. It was running fine and had no indication that anything was wrong. It was around the 35,000 mile mark. I was driving to work and my Jeep just stalled on me. I pulled off to the side of the road, tried to start it again, and nothing. So I called the dealership who told me to call the 800# for the tow truck (which took 2 hours at 20 degrees. . . . No heat. . . Not good). I found out that was actually a piston and a rocker-arm along with many other little parts that needed to be fixed in the engine. . . . . . . So major engine repair. The Jeep was in the shop for a couple of weeks. After it was fixed all was well. . . . . Until the breakdown from the recall. . . . That is my next complaint. . . . Stay tuned!!! :).
2003 Jeep Liberty ltd. Car vibrated at speeds of 55mph and above. Fox dealer, auburn NY was great, daimler-Chrysler was not. Changed all 4 tires and 3 wheels which didn't fix. Chrysler closed case "within mfg specs. . . ". Dealer continued to try to fix at their expense. Balanced both driveshafts which were out of balance. Still vibrated. Moved alignment of spline/differential. Didn't fix. Finally, daimler-Chrysler regional svc mgr offered a swap for a new car, but with me paying mileage over 8k. Ny lemon law allows 12k without mileage fee. I initiated lemon law proceedure. The day before arbitration daimler-Chrysler legal reps offered same terms I'd have won in arbitration. Got rid of Liberty at 11900 miles. Leased a grand cherokee. The verdict is still under consideration on this car.
Purchased 4/02 and by 7/02 with approx. 6,000k experienced hard downshifting when stopping as well as between gears. Dealer service "removed burrs from driveshaft". Returned for service 8/02 with same problem. Again "removed burrs from driveshaft". On 3rd visit in 9/02 I was told they couldn't repair anything and that" the vehicle had a programmable transmission and it's memory was likely responding to a previous similar driving session". . . Hence the gear slamming! returned 4th time 2 weeks later and this time was told there were no recalls on the complaint and the dealer would file a complaint on my behalf to daimler/Chrysler and I'd be contacted when they heard something. I have not heard from anyone even after sending my own complaint letter to d/c in 11/02. Have also experienced many incidents of rear tires slipping and fishtailing in various road/weather conditions as well as constant right pull and have to fight steering wheel to drive straight.
2002 Jeep Liberty limited. I have replaced the engine, rebuilt the 4 -wheel drive shaft, replaced the a/c condenser and coil, and now the radio, dome lights, power locks are broken. The blower motor resistor has been replaced but now the blower motor is broken. What a lemon from day one. Latches on hatch not working correctly, mold smell from a/c. It is something all the time with this vehicle.
The vehicle exhibits loud low frequency vibrations @ 53mph. The driveshaft has been replaced after being declared out of balance. It is now at the dealership for the 5th time for this repair. Discussions with other Liberty owners indicates that this is not an isolated incident. A subsequent test drive of one other vehicle showed the same problem.
When vehicle goes between 50 and 53mph the car will begin to dramatically vibrate. I took it to the dealer where I purchased it (norwalk, CT) and they told me tires were out of whack & they rebalanced tires & said it was fixed. Obviously they did not test drive b/c problem still existed. Took car to pamby in ridgefield,CT and one of the owners test drove it and said nothing was wrong. Brought car back to them about 1 month later and 2 mechanics said yes, car does vibrate at 50mph. They took out drive shaft and put another one in from another Liberty sport & same problem happened. They then took out drive shaft and gave me my old one back. Service writer said he would contact Chrysler and get back to me with info. After 3 weeks and no call I went into dealership and was told that Chrysler had not called the service dept. Back yet. It has now been 6 weeks and still no answer from dealership or Chrysler!! I bought this car in good faith that it would be a safe and dependable vehicle! vehicle also now does vibrating at 70mph. Still curious as to when Chrysler will recall this and fix it correctly! dt.
There is a humming noise coming from the truck when reaching 60mph also the Jeep vibrates at that speed. I have taken it to warnock in cedar knolls after spending more than 3 days back and forth they advised it was the driveshaft, left the Jeep with warnock only to find out that the condition is under investigation, so the truck is not fixed and I can't take it more than 60mph. .
