3 Suspension Noise problem of the 2008 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 10/07/2019

We dropped off our 08 rav 4 at the dealer due to (faulty recall rear tie rod repairs done in 2013. ) I put a new set of expensive tires. Now at approx 34,000 miles now I notices extreme wearing prematurely with possible safety concerns. Our repair shop said the (rear suspension tie rods) can not be adjusted due to Toyota's (recall rear tie rods epoxy glue!) this means wheel alignment can not be properly. However, while driving on city streets or the highway you heard rumbling tire noises.

4 Suspension Noise problem of the 2019 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 08/06/2019

1. Transmission sudden jerking/shifting when slowing down in city at traffic lights then trying to accelerate anywhere from 5-10 mph will then jerk backwards then forwards making the car jump about 10 inches forward. Can be replicated at any time. 2. Cars front end suspension seems to squeak/groan will pulling into my bank or drive way, almost any unleveled pavement. This happens at lower speeds when I can hear it with very little wind noise. 3. My seat in the vehicle broke at 7,000 miles. 4. My brakes sound as if the rotors are bent with slight vibration in the brake pedal. 5. No fix for transmission. Today they are reflashing the pcm - powertrain control module. We'll see if that will fix the issue but I highly doubt it from the damage that has already occurred. I am working with Toyota corporate with the issue.

12 Suspension Noise problem of the 2011 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 05/08/2017

Suspension: while driving in the interstate, I heard a "pop" and the sound of something sliding from the back passenger side too the back driver side of the vehicle. I then felt the back of the vehicle "wobbling" and I heard a "clucking and rubbing" sound. I managed to get to a repair station, and observed the back driver's side tire leaning inward at the top, and it had been rubbing against the wheel well and a cord. The repairman looked it over and found no reason for a bolt that ranged about 5-7 inches to shoot out, resulting in the back wheel to almost fall completely off that way, as the undercarriage "looked pretty good. " I just purchased the vehicle just over 3 months ago from a certified dealer. The carfax reported no previous accidents and the car was reportedly maintenance as recommended, (every 3000 miles). I'm afraid to drive it now. What's to keep this from happening to the other three tires???.

14 Suspension Noise problem of the 2008 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 08/01/2016

An "urgent safety recall" was issued for my car in August 2016 for the rear lower suspension arm which can cause loss of vehicle control. My dealer is still unable to get the parts. I contacted Toyota directly and was told there is a remedy but a shortage of parts, and to make an appointment to be put on the waiting list. Really? I've already waited 18 months. I drive on the interstate every day and hear grinding noises coming from the back of my car.

15 Suspension Noise problem of the 2011 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 08/08/2015

The 2011 Toyota rav 4 was in a Toyota repair shop for an oil change. We requested a look at brakes because of the rear end noise and vibration on braking. The shop call to say our tires had worn on the inner edge to such a dangerous degree that they would not advise travel. We carefully drove a few miles to our tire store because of the service and warranty. They agreed to prorate the tires. A mechanic suggested they saw the same problem with the same model the week prior. They said it was a rear suspension issue. I checked for other people having this issue and found that Toyota had known about the problem and we're forced into a recall by the u s government. They are keeping the information from the public. We could have died in an accident due to the tires. The front tires are in perfect shape and past experience with this brand did not indicate any problems. The real issue is why did Toyota not tell us about the recall while we were in the shop and do something to insure our safety?? we could have died.

16 Suspension Noise problem of the 2009 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 08/04/2015

It appears that a sound, suspension of the rav 4 need some repair.

17 Suspension Noise problem of the 2007 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 07/17/2015

Just got off the highway and was driving on city streets. Started hearing some creaking noise, and then a few clunks and a bang/pop as I was going around a corner at about 3-5mph I pulled into the driveway in front of me. I see my right rear tire has caved in and is rubbing against the inside of the wheel well. After jacking up the car and taking the tire off I see the entire brake assembly is rotated in, and the bolts holding it to the rear suspension are bent out of place. Perhaps this is the result of the band-aid epoxy fix for the Toyota rear suspension recall. This is a major safety issue!.

18 Suspension Noise problem of the 2010 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 06/26/2015

While driving vehicle began to shake or "wobble" . Upon inspection was found to be tire which was uneven in wear. Replaced tire and after a short time was found not to be the problem. Upon inspection was found seals on rear differential leaking . Closer inspection found rear suspension, tie rod loose. This we believe is due to rear suspension parts being faulty. Parts are original. At this time we are being told that it is not covered under any vehicle warranty or recall. This is a major safety problem as it caused vehicle to loose complete control. At this same time vehicle rear differential also began to give off a "whine" sound. The tires have been worn unevenly due to rear suspension being loose causing this failure. Our concerns are that we are being told there is no warranty or recall to correct or protect anyone owning and driving without knowledge of this problem. It should be known that tires worn uneven were on & from rear of vehicle. No front tires had been worn unevenly with this incident.

22 Suspension Noise problem of the 2010 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

Received notification of recall due to rear lower suspension arms over 6 months ago. Have been waiting for remedy from Toyota which obviously never came. Starting to hear noise from the side and rear of vehicle. No accident as of yet, but am not willing to wait any longer. Completely irresponsible on Toyota's part . Shame on you - does someone have to get hurt or worse before you step up and fix this problem. My first and last Toyota buy.

23 Suspension Noise problem of the 2007 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 02/20/2014

Received a recall notice for tie rod/suspension back in September 2013. Today I called local Toyota dealer and asked about the fix. They told me that there was no fix yet available. . . . Obviously very disappointed and worried about how long I have been driving with potentially dangerous part/defect that could cause loss of control and wreck. I think NHTSA should force the issue with Toyota now it has been too long!. Local dealer advised me what sound, loud rattling in back of vehicle to listen for. . . . Really unbelievable the delay.

28 Suspension Noise problem of the 2006 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 02/27/2013

Over the course of the past 2 months I have heard a quiet popping noise coming from the back right tire area when I make turns. I actually visited a Toyota dealer 1/8/2013 because there was a lower suspension arm recall on my vehicle. They "inspected" and put a sticker on, and a worthless clamp (might as well been a paperclip) on the the tie rod. On 2/27/13, I took a few CO-workers to lunch and they noticed a loud pop every time I turned a corner or hit any uneven spot in the road. When I pulled into my parking spot at work I got out and looked at the rear right tire and it was slanted only slightly. Later in the day, I backed out of my parking spot and heard a very severe pop and the tire made a whooshing noise as it was making contact with the tire well. The vehicle was out of service at this point. I got my vehicle toed to a nearby shop, and they found that the tie rod on the rear right wheel was bent severely. The mechanic that was inspecting my vehicle was not a dealer, and agreed that the "fix" Toyota developed for this recall issue was worthless, and agreed that I could have been seriously injured if this had failed on the highway. I have a photo of the bent tie rod, and visited the shop to see for myself this afternoon. I truly think that Toyota's fix should have been to replace everyone's tie rods. People's lives are still at risk! I plan to submit my charges to Toyota for reimbursement.

29 Suspension Noise problem of the 2007 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 12/18/2012

My vehicle recently had a recall for potential rust issues with the rear lower suspension arm. Both my sway bar arms are now broken due to rust and Toyota is charging me $500 to fix the issue. The service rep at the dealership told me "this is not a safety issue but the sway bars prevent the car from rolling over. " this sounds like a major safety issue to me and also directly related to the recall issue. This is the 6th recall on my vehicle and I have submitted a request to Toyota to fix this issue at no cost. Considering Toyota did not have a solution to the rear suspension recall and forced it's owners to drive with the problem for multiple months exposing us to potential danger, asking them to fix this problem at no cost is reasonable. My dealership even went as far as to tell me that if I wanted them to inspect the recall situation prior to a fix being available I would have to pay labor costs. Last time I checked, the customer should not be responsible for paying labor costs due to a recall. I would appreciate that the sway bar arms on my Rav4 are fixed at no cost. If rust causing "threads may wear, causing the arm to separate, which could result in the loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash" that resulted in my recall than it seems like the two problems are related as the parts are in similar areas of the undercarriage. Thank you for your assistance.

30 Suspension Noise problem of the 2010 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 11/23/2012

Tl- the contact owns a 2010 Toyota Rav4. The contact stated while traveling at any speed there had been a loud noise from the rear of the vehicle. The contact had also experienced the vehicle swaying back and forth from left to right while driving intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who was not able to replicate nor diagnose the failure multiple times. The vehicle had violently jerked forward while at a stop sign or a stop light with the brakes applied intermittently. The contact was included in NHTSA campaign id number: 13v383000 (suspension) but was told to take the vehicle back. The vehicle was not repaired. The rear tie rod had fractured without warning. The vehicle was taken back to the authorized dealer who only provided an interim fix but did not remedy the failure. The authorized dealer repaired the right suspension arm and the bushing however, the contact had heard the noise coming from the rear of the vehicle intermittently. The manufacturer was notified of the failure on multiple occasions. The approximate failure mileage was 39,000. Dyd.

31 Suspension Noise problem of the 2008 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 11/17/2012

I received a "interim" recall notice from Toyota stating that there was an issue with the rear suspension arm and that failure of the rear tie rod could cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash. They instructed owners to call only if they experienced any strange noises coming from the rear of the vehicle. I did notice that recently especially when backing up that I would hear a popping noise coming from the rear passenger side of the vehicle. I called and they scheduled an appointment with my local dealership for the following week. The day after I scheduled my vehicle to be looked at the rear suspension arm no. 1 separated while driving on a busy 4 lane highway. This caused the vehicle to initially start to sway back and forth and as I tried to pull over to the breakdown lane I then lost complete control of the vehicle which then spun around in the direction of on coming vehicles. Fortunately we did not suffer any injuries and the vehicle came to rest at the top of an exit off ramp. Now that I experienced how serious this really is I have serious concerns as to why Toyota didn't advise me to immediately bring the vehicle to a dealership. This could have been a serious and deadly crash.

32 Suspension Noise problem of the 2007 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 10/31/2012

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Rav4. The contact stated that while driving 35mph there was a clunking noise coming from the left rear of the vehicle. The vehicle became uncontrollable and suddenly spun out at a 180 degree and crashed into the curb. No injuries were reported. The air bags did not deploy and there was no warning light illuminating. The contact stated he inspects the vehicle and there was damages to both rims and rear tires, and the lower left control arm broke. The vehicle was towed to the dealer but the insurance company inspected the vehicle and stated it was the lower control arm and both rear rims and wheels of the vehicle. The contact stated he received a recall notice prior to the accident for recall NHTSA campaign id number: 12v373000 (suspension: rear). However, he did not take the vehicle in for inspection of the recall. The manufacturer was notified who started a claim and then informed him a representative will be sent out to inspect the vehicle. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 83,000.

33 Suspension Noise problem of the 2007 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 10/16/2012

I have taken my vehicle to the Toyota dealer ship to look at my rear lower suspension that I have been experience a loud abnormal sound when I'm on the road and getting worse and they said there is nothing wrong with my vehicle. Then I get this recall notice to get it checked out and still nothing wrong with it but I had put new tires on my vehicle and has caused the inside to be wearing out just the inside tire. I took my vehicle where I bought my tires at and they stated that even if I rotate my tires it still will continue to wear out because something is causing to wear them out. I think if something is causing this by a manufacturer problem at least some one should be responsible for this. Please if I can get some one to call me to get this resolved. I don't feel safe driving my vehicle anymore because I feel I could loss of control of my vehicle and have a accident.

34 Suspension Noise problem of the 2008 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

I was driving along and heard a small thud, and, with no other sound or warning, the car went out of control. Thankfully I was able to stop, as I was driving slowly. When I got out of the car and looked, the rear wheel was hanging off. It was determined that the rear suspension arm had failed and needed to be replaced. This was a terrifying experience and surely would have been catastrophic if I had been driving at a faster speed. Toyota has been notified.

35 Suspension Noise problem of the 2006 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 09/19/2012

My rav 4 is making a loud clunking noise from the rear suspension. My local shop replaced the rear shocks and the rear sway bar end links, which did not solve the clunking noise. I took it to Toyota of westport in westport,CT on October 1, 2012 where they checked the vehicle and said they are unsure how to rectify the problem until Toyota produces a formal recall and fix, but they do know of the problem. If the problems are stated all over the internet and Toyota knows of the problem. . . How can it not be fixed? I am worried as my wife travels distances by highway and I do not want this to cause a crash if it can be solved. What is one to do when the dealer does not know how to fix their product? I am at a loss, but will keep my fingers crossed and hope that my car holds up until Toyota figures this out.
