Equipment Problems of Acura MDX - part 2

Multiple system warnings lights on dash appear indicating multiple systems issues including possible loss of power. See video first occurrence- August 2024 - dealer said it was due to software that needed to be updated. The repair was completed. Second occurrence - may 2025 - dealer has car for over a week and is unable to find the problem. No codes were stored so they say they can repair it. Honda says it’s the dealers problem I have the last occurrence on cell video but I’m unable how to upload as it’s not jpeg.

I was in traffic on a major highway during rush hour, and my car went into neutral on its own in the middle of the highway. I was unable to put it in drive, restart it, turn it off or do anything else. The car truck behind me almost hit me and other cars were honking their horns as they changed lanes and drove past me. It was extremely frightening and unsafe as my car sat there without moving, on a major highway, in the middle of rush hour, at 5:35 pm. This happened before and I reported it to the dealership in 2024, and took my car in on three different occasions. In November 2024, less than a year after I purchased the certified pre owned car, it shifted into neutral twice within 20 minutes while I was driving intown, and again later than day as I exited a highway. The third time, I was able to get a video of it on my phone. The dealer said they could not reproduce the problem but fortunately, I sent them the video that shows the oil, battery, abs, acc, brake, road departure system, tire pressure, lkas, brake system and other lights were all on. They said they addressed the issue then. This time around, in April 2025, they told me that they were unable to reproduce the issue but that it was because my battery tested low. Nothing was mentioned about a battery in November when the battery was still under warranty. Now they are saying it is the battery. There were no warnings before the car stalled. This is concerning and very unsafe. I cannot upload videos to this report so I have uploaded a few screenshots from it.

This is a known issue with Acura that they have not addressed. The software cannot be updated due to a flaw in their design. The dealerships cannot even update the software since it is designed to only be updated via a wifi connection, which does not work. This is critical, because the 2025 Mdx is actually a major departure from prior years in how the brakes and other functions operate. When I brake, it is very rough and uneven and the engine revs and surges the vehicle forward. Only a software update could possibly fix this, but this is not possible, due to the lack of any access to the car's electronics. Quite frankly, Acura marketed this vehicle to be vastly superior to prior year models, but they cut out various features (including a hard wire connection to the electronics).

I stopped at a red light and when I went to pull of the car cut off. I had to restart the car to pull off. This is the second time that this has happened.

About maybe 2 months ago my tailgate open light comes on. When the exterior light is left on when I get in the car. . . It will go out but the tailgate light open will come on while driving and you will a ding then the light comes on while drive ng. As a result the car alarm. Goes. Off several times. I have checked the tailgate and it is closed I have taken it in but they can't find the reason why this happening. I have been on other forums and this appears to have been a problem. With. My Acura Mdx 2020 had an issue in which the automatic start-stop system sometimes not manage to start the engine after stopping.

March 21, 2025. I made an appointment to the closest Acura dealership (sterling mccall Acura sugar land, TX) for the two recalls I have on my 2020 Acura Mdx. They were not able to accommodate with my timing request. Since I reside more than one hour away, I am not able and willing to drive so many times for this issue. I've asked them to fix the recalls today, as I have 3-4 hours free. They were not able to and offered me a rental car to keep until the problems are fixed. Due to my location and timing consuming to drive to their location (the closest to me), I refused. When I bought my brand new Mdx I trusted the brand, and now they are not able to provide a covenant solution to me. I am very disappointed.

I was stopped at a traffic light and my car just shut off for no reason. I had to keep trying to start it but it wouldn't turn back on. I finally got the car to completely turn off, sat a couple minutes and then restarted it. Thankfully I was able to get it back on before the light changed again.

My Acura Mdx 2016, when stopped in traffic or at a red light will randomly shut down or switch to neutral. It started 2-3 years back. This has happened frequently last few months. Last time I was stuck in the exit of a parking garage blocking the exit. After around 20-30 mins the car decided to start on its own. I took the car directly to a dealer who found no issues with the car. Vehicle make/model/year: 2019 Acura Mdx component affected: forward collision avoidance / lane departure / adas (front camera system) summary of issue: I am filing this complaint regarding a recurring and dangerous issue involving the front windshield-mounted camera on our 2019 Acura Mdx. After purchasing this vehicle and driving approximately 5500 miles in las vegas, multiple critical safety warnings began appearing on the dashboard, including: •“collision mitigation system problem” •“road departure mitigation system problem” •“lane keeping assist problem” •“adaptive cruise control problem” these warnings occur continuosly. The warning lights won’t turn off, resulting in the complete shutdown of essential advanced driver assistance systems (adas). Safety concerns: this camera-related failure disables major safety features designed to prevent accidents. The driver is left without automatic emergency braking, lane keeping, or adaptive cruise control. This is especially dangerous at highway speeds. Acura has not issued a recall, despite the widespread nature of this problem and documented cases in other hot-weather regions. Service experience: we purchased the vehicle used from a Cadillac dealership. The issue began approximately 3 months after purchase. A mechanic confirmed that the front camera system is likely malfunctioning due to heat exposure—a known problem with this model. Why I’m reporting: I believe this is a safety defect that should prompt investigation. Acura appears to have issued technical service bulletins (tsbs) but has not taken action to proactively notify owners or issue a recall. This defect compromises driver and passenger safety and puts others at risk.

Electric parking brake light and emissions system light popped up at the same time. Replaced the battery the lights gone immediately for weeks, but reappears again. Disconnected the battery and reconnected it the lights gone for one month and came back again. Search online there are a lot of similar situations. The dealer replaced parts but the issue stated. There must be some malfunctions of the ecu or something else.

When I stopped in traffic, there are times the gear shifted from drive (d) to neutral (n) by itself. And sometimes the engine shuts off. This problem started last month until now. I brought the car to the dealership for diagnostic tests but according to them, they found no problem with my car. I saw in social media that lots of Mdx owners experienced the same problem.

Rear storage compartment is collecting lots of moisture. This area is growing mold on the carpet and lid. Not sure if there is a faulty drain issue or the manufacturer failed to insulate this area properly causing major condensation. This is a serious health hazard concern as occupants are now exposed to mold. Vehicle is scheduled to go in to the dealership to test for water leaks 2/21/25. Until we get into the dealership, from my observation it appears to be an issue with condensation from improper insulation/engineering.

The vehicle stalled and was unable to start again, called aaa , they jump started but when I went to dealership they said it wasn't the battery. The car electrical electric system was flashing. The breaks won't release. This is not the first time. My car is currently in Acura service for 5 days and they can't figure out what the problem is. My friends car also has had similar issues. I have a video of the flashing indicators. The car has only 33k miles.

I just read about this new recall on Honda and Acura vehicles. I just wanted to say that I am really mad at Honda and you guys at NHTSA. You just put these issues out there in the media that Honda and Acura have all these safety issues and these are really dangers issues people could loose their lives here , but no one fallows what Honda and Acura are doing. I have 2019 Acura Mdx and I got this recall flayer in the mail I late 2023 and the flayer stated that we will be notified by Acura and Honda when the parts are available. And it clearly says that this is a dangerous recall lives could be at stake. Guess what now is November 2024 and I was never notified by any means no flayer no phone calls no email no nothing. Nobody cares . Now this comes out again same issue and what nobody cares again. This is ridiculous someone should be held accountable for putting my kids my family in danger. Like I said my vehicle was recalled in 2023 for this same dangerous issue and no one ever contacted or sent another flayer again. Good thing I called Acura two weeks ago just out of curiosity about the recall for 2023 . They said OH ok will schedule you for aril of 2025 hahaha. This is crazy it takes two years to fix an issue this dangerous. And guess what they will probably call me in April of 2025 and say they have no parts and that would be able to schedule me for 2026. Yeah that how dese recallls work and no one cares about people and family lives. Thank you Honda Acura and NHTSA.

Contacted dealer to schedule a recall repair appointment in July 2024. The appointment was scheduled for November 11th. I showed up on November 11th and was told my appointment was not scheduled until December 11th. It’s been more than 4 months since I contacted them and the repair hasn’t been done.

Airbags: I was driving on interstate five when traffic had come to a slow stop. The vehicle far behind me not paying attention and hit me going at a very fast speed that forced my car into a box truck in front of me. My car was found to be a total loss. Zero airbags were deployed with either impact. The hood completely crunched and dash broke open inside vehicle.

We have had several recall on this automobile. The 2 outstanding recalls are almost a year old. One is for the fuel pump and the other is the connecting rod bearing. My wife is afraid to drive the car long distances because of this. We would like the dealer to buy the vehicle back if they can't perform the repairs.

Air conditioning system in 2017 Acura Mdx is releasing chemical fumes when air conditioning is turned on. This problem was reported to authorized Acura service center (chapman Acura in tucson, arizona) during vehicle warranty period. This problem has been reported to this Acura service center more than 5 times but the Acura service center is not fixing the problem. Release of chemical fumes from air conditioning system is causing respiratory problems and is a passenger safety issue. Chapman Acura has charged consumer several times for the same problem but has not fixed the issue.

My 2020 Mdx with less than 52,000 miles (VIN [xxx] ) has a transmission problem. I serviced the SUV as recommended by the dealer regularly and I take very good care . The transmission jerks several times when taking my foot off the gas to slow down within my short drive to and from work. If I parked on a little uphill or downhill roads and switch gear (either forward or reverse), the car jerks and jumps. When the vehicle is idle, for instance at a light, it will shut down. It idles a little, goes into neutral and shuts completely down having to be restarted. I always turn off the automatic start on the vehicle after I start it, so it is not that. It has also done it while driving. It is very unsafe to be driving in traffic and have your vehicle shut down with no warning. Please advise on what actions should be taken to correct this issue.

Engine poweer failure while driving at highway speed. Vehicle could not maintain allowed highway speed (above 45 mph) while moving in fast traffic. First warning indicator appeared after driver noticed loss of power while driving 60 mph. Independent service center confirmed error code p0304, misfiring cylinder. Could not identify problem with spark plug or ignition coil. Technition found engine knocking during diagnostic exam.

Twice so far my car just turned itself off while stopped in traffic at a stoplight. It would not turn on immediately. Traffic built behind me, steering was locked, brakes not working. After sitting a minute or so it would start again and then the steering would then work, gas accelerator, brakes would all then start to work again. It was scary and unsafe. This needs a recall!!!.

Auto idle mode - after we've stopped and released the brake to go forward, the car will then shift to neutral by itself instead of restarting to drive. This has happened frequently and is now starting to happen more often. This is a safety issue, especially if you're the last car in line and other cars are traveling 55-60 miles behind you on a major road and see a green light ahead. Each time this happens, we have to turn off the car and try to restart the car, and sometimes this has been iffy and we've had to repeat the process a couple of times. On 8/24, I purchased an Acura Mdx 2025 technology package. We drove home from the dealer, my mother heard a rattling noise but thought it was the car seat making the noise. The next day,I heard the noise again,it was coming from the right, rear back,I checked,and saw the wheel liner loose and thought the noise was being cause by a loose liner. My mother said we had to go back to the dealer on 8/31 to pick up the wheel lock and weather mats and we would have them check the liner. As the week went by,the noise was more often. On the way to the dealer, we could hear the noise after every bump or turning right. We gave this information to the dealer,we said we thought it was a loose liner but were not sure anymore as the rattling was more often. We did not feel safe driving home. They provided us a loaner and said they would look into it. On 9/4 they sent a text that the rear sway bar link was faulty, the part was ordered and the car should be ready by Friday. My mom emailed them to ask if by faulty,they meant it was loose or broken,they checked and said it was broken. It was expressed to them that this was concerning because it was a brand new vehicle,that we felt blessed that we decided to leave the car,had we driven back home, god knows what could have happened since a broken link can cause you to lose control and get into an accident. We asked if they would report it to the manufacturer or NHTSA? they did not reply. But text a day after stating that we must have gone through a pothole at high speed or hit something,and we were liable for the cost. After my mother sent an email and spoke with them saying that if it was not caused by us,that if the issue was there,was it caused during transporting the car from the manufacturer to the dealer?they said that the car was fixed and there would be no charge but kept insisting that we were at fault,that it happens alot,where people walk out of the dealer and come back with something broken the next day. The contact owns a 2025 Acura Mdx. The contact stated that while shifted into reverse(r), the rear-view camera display failed to function as needed. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to respond while shifted into reverse (r). The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure or determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 25v032000 (back over prevention, equipment); however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 12,000.

Acura issued warranty extension TSB 19-029 on 2014-2016 Mdx with white diamond pearl paint. The extension covers the roof and rear door. My roof began peeling in or around 2022 and the roof was repainted without issue. The rear door just showed signs of the defect in August 2024, and the issue is clearly the same manufacturer defect as identified in the document, however, Acura is unwilling to correct the defect due to the warranty period now being expired.

I was in traffic and we slowed down to a stop. Suddenly my car went to neutral and it didn’t want to go to drive. I put emergency lights, as many cars were behind in the highway. I turned the car off and turned it back on. Then I was able to drive again! this has happened twice in the last 3 months.

Sunroof explosion. On July 19, 2024, I was driving southbound on I-94 north of the old orchard exit (about 15 miles north of chicago, illinois). It was mid to late morning, sunny, 75 degrees. I drove over some pavement that was under repair but was not marked as being under repair. Within 60 seconds I heard a loud bang or explosion. My sunroof cover was closed and heard glass falling onto the cover. I exited the highway and saw that the glass was broken in the center of the sunroof. There were no rocks or objects in the sunroof and no evidence that anything had impacted the sunroof. The vehicle is available for inspection however, I am in the process of clearing the glass so that I can operate the vehicle during the month that it will take for a replacement glass to arrive. The problem has not been confirmed by a dealer, the component has not been inspected by anyone other than myself. There were no warnings prior to the incident.

No warning lights or other indications occurred. This is the 2nd time while sitting at a stop light that the car has gone into neutral gear and it was unknown until the traffic signal turned green and I could not go. I could not shift into drive. The remedy required that I shut the car off and restarted (very little time between) before putting it in gear. Both occurrences were with idle stop function on. There is an entire discussion forum on this exact issue on Mdxers. Org. Being first in line at a stop with 4 other passengers and a line of drivers expecting me to go on green is a sure way to result in an accident. The car goes in for regular service next week and I will bring it to the dealer’s attention.

While driving on a major highway, several warning lights, including the brake warning, appeared on the dashboard. Simultaneously, the vehicle lost power steering, making it extremely difficult to steer and creating a hazardous situation for the driver and others on the road. The driver managed to pull over and turn off the vehicle. Upon restarting, the warning lights were gone, and the steering returned to normal. The car was taken to a local Acura dealership, but they couldn’t find any error codes or replicate the issue. After a week of driving without any problems, the car was brought back to the dealership. This time, a district Acura technician recommended replacing the steering rack. The dealership informed us that Acura would disassemble the old steering rack to investigate the issue further and determine if it was the cause. Acura will decide on a recall if enough vehicles are affected.

Panoramic roof suddenly exploded with no apparent reason while driving around 45 mile per hour. The outside temperature from the gauge was showing 89 degree f. Road was clean and there was no sign of a rock hitting the roof. Luckily all the broken glasses were collected by the sunshade and did not fall inside the cabin where 2 kids were sitting on the second row seats. The broken glass could have seriously injured the driver and the passengers if the sunshade was open.
