Exterior Lighting Problems of Acura MDX - part 2

Headlights somehow may be taking on moisture. The clarity is down to almost nothing. Driving at night is unsafe! the rpm’s have never been smooth or consistent. There is almost a micro-revving effect. I’ve had all of the fluids and filters changed…… dealership thought it was a recall.

Tl the contact owns a 2015 Acura Mdx. The contact stated that the led headlamps failed to function in general and during inclement weather. The dealer (mike hale Acura, 5601 state st, murray, ut 84107, (801) 263-0202) was contacted several times to reach the manufacturer to determine a solution. The service center manager stated that he would further address the matter; however, an appointment had not yet been scheduled. The manufacturer was notified. The VIN and failure mileage were not available.

Emergency flashers were stuck in the on position. We had pulled over briefly on the freeway and turned on the hazard flashers. Shortly thereafter we wanted to resume driving but the flashers would not turn off for a couple minutes, so we did not want to drive. The switch did not respond, during a couple minutes of pressing the switch. Unknown why the switch became stuck or how it became unstuck.

The windshield wipers would just come on and not shut off. We tried several things but the wipers would not stop. I had to take the fuse out so it cause further damage.

Auto dimming rear view mirror developed strange circles. It became triple vision. Then over the next few days it began leaking a black oily substance on the interior of the car and the view from the mirror is soo distorted you cannot see anything. I contacted Acura and they said out of warranty. Tough luck. I explained that this is a major safety defect and I received the same response.

At night time, the backup rear camera is useless due to insufficient lighting provided by the original equipment.

Honda Acura Mdx, the vehicle provides a backup camera to display the rear view when the vehicle backs up. However the camera system does not work at night under street light. The driver barely sees anything at rear through the video display even it is set at night mode and it is turned to max. Bright level. I almost hit a child when I tried to backup the car with the rear view though the camera and I thought it was clear but it is not. It is a very dangerous and it could kill a child. Acura should never install such poor quality cameras on its high end vehicles. Or Acura should put a clear warning mark beside the display which warns driver never use it at night. Comparing to the other brand rear view cameras I never heard such stories that they are not be able to work at night. There are complaints on the web and many people are experiencing this problem. I hope Acura will replace the camera and prevent it from an accident really happened.

The rear back up camera does not provide adequate brightness at night. With the screen brightness set to max, I am unable to discern objects behind on the screen at night especially in rain. The camera lens is clean. This is significantly worse compared to my prior 2008 Acura Mdx, and compared to other vehicles that I own and have driven with similar cameras. The dealer says that it is a frequent complaint.

On 2 different times my vehicle accelerated on its own resulting in an accident. The first time was on or about may 24, 2011. I was pulling into a parking space of an apartment complex. It was around 5:30 pm. I was driving slowly (between 2-3 mph) as there was a construction crew working directly behind the parking space in which I was going to park. I was making a right hand turn into the parking space. As I proceeded into the parking space my left foot was on the floor and my right foot was on the brake, alternating between braking and idling. I was not using the accelerator, just the brake and the idling engine. As I approached the curb to my final stop, the car suddenly lunged forward over the curb and hit a tree. I reported these details to the Acura dealership when I took the car in for repairs. I told the representative that something was wrong with the car and they needed to check the acceleration. About a month later my car was returned to me and the representative at the dealership said they did not find anything wrong with accelerator. About 10 months later (March 2013) a similar acceleration happened. This time I was pulling into a parking space in a parking lot. I entered the parking space by making a right turn. My left foot was on the floor; my right foot was on the break. There was only 1 other car in the parking lot. It was about 10:30 am. I was alternating between braking and idling. Just before the final stop the car lunged forward hitting a brick wall. The dealership recognized me from my previous visit. I told the representative what happened. I told him that something was wrong with the car it is not suppose to accelerate like it did. Once again the car was repaired and I was told there was nothing wrong with the car. I said this car is a safety hazard; I am not going to drive the car. I left the car there.

I have other hondas but not this problem. Dealers know the problem, but not doing anything.

The blue-white halogen lights should be outlawed. The glare is overwhelming and dangerous. It is a distraction while driving and likely leads to accidents, like any other distraction interferes with attentiveness. The glare in rear view mirrors causes drivers to unnecessarily place the rear view mirror in "night driving" position, which limits ability to see ordinary objects.
