1 Front Seat Head Restraint problem of the 2014 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 08/28/2018

Headrest is extremely uncomfortable. I know they are supposedly safe, but I don't think it's true. They force the head foreward and leave a big void from the top of your shoulders to the bottom of your head. This could break your neck in a collision by forcing the head. Sort of a reverse whiplash, if you will. Worst of all, they cause me a lot pain on long trips. Please recall these and replace them with tilt-adjustable headrests.

3 Front Seat Head Restraint problem of the 2007 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 03/15/2013

The headrests in this car and all newer-model cars create an uncomfortable and dangerous position of the head and neck by forcing the driver's head forward into an unnatural position. People who are taller, or who have a taller torso are affected more than shorter drivers/passengers. Reclining the seat to avoid having your head pushed forward creates an absence of support for your upper back and torso. These unnatural and uncomfortable positions, while they may assist in whiplash-type accidents, can create neck and back fatigue and even exacerbate and/or cause disk injuries in the delicate cervical spine area. I'm sure these headrests are designed to comply with NHTSA requirements; however while the design may solve one problem (whiplash) it create an entirely different set of problems. A simple solution is to make the headrests adjustable in terms of the angle so that taller drivers are not forced into a hunched over, neck-pain causing position. This is not a minor complaint and is not specific to our Acura. These uncomfortable headrests exist in every newer-model car I've driven or been a passenger in. The NHTSA rules for these headrests are also creating a situation where owners of these cars are making modifications to alleviate the painful head/neck position caused by the headrests. People are removing the headrests, turning them around backwards and sometimes bending the supports to angle the headrest away at a more comfortable position which undermine the supposed safety benefits afforded by the head-forward design. Please, do something to correct the design requirements. They are hurting us and creating an even more unsafe condition when people modify the headrests. A re-design and recall of these current head-forward headrests is imperative to eliminate repetitive head-forward-type cervical disk injuries that are not caused by an accident.

5 Front Seat Head Restraint problem of the 2009 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 02/15/2010

There must be a defect in my 2009 Acura Mdx head restraint system. I believe it has resulted in or contributed to a neck injury . I have had neck pain bad enough to require four months of physical therapy and five surgical procedures. The head rest forces my neck and head into an unnatural forward position. The head rest only moves up and down and not forward and back. I am unable to adjust the seat and steering wheel to accommodate for the lack of adjustable in the head rest.

6 Front Seat Head Restraint problem of the 2006 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 12/14/2008

The contact owns a 2006 Acura Mdx. When placing her child in the third row seat, the contact noticed that there was no setting for the middle headrest for small kids. The contact feels that this is a safety issue for young kids because the headrest only had two positions. If the child is not the correct height, he or she would be unable to utilize the headrest. The manufacturer advised the contact to read the owner's manual and take the vehicle to the dealer to be inspected. The failure mileage was 69,000 and current mileage was 74,000.

7 Front Seat Head Restraint problem of the 2008 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 01/01/2008

The new head restraints that you require because of the insurance institute for highway safety evaluations have created a head restraint that is not usable. I went to see about purchasing a new vehicle but found with the new head restraint I can not see out the windshield of the vehicle, I can see the hood but the insurance institute head restraint prevents my head from moving to a position to see out the front of the vehicle. The only I could see out the windshield with the seat positioned where I want it was to remove the insurance institute designed head restraint, this is a safety problem created by the insurance institute. I think the research they did is flawed because most of the time people are hit in the rear of the vehicle is when they are stopped and what I see when people are stopped is they are leaning over playing with the radio or cell phone, in a position where their head is no where near the head restraint. Contrary to what the insurance institute for safety thinks people do not sit-up straight when they are driving. Either I will keep my old cars till I die, not helping the economy, or drive a new one with the insurance institute for safety head restraints removed and let the ambulance chaser handle it if I get rear ended. May be they can CO after the insurance institute for their great design.

8 Front Seat Head Restraint problem of the 2007 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 12/18/2007

Newest info from iihs shows that both of my Acura Mdx's ('04 and early '07) did very poorly on the rear collision/head restraint test (whiplash). Acura apparently realized this blunder because Mdx's made after may '07 passed with flying colors. This has me very concerned to say the least for me and my families safety. Acura changed something with regard to the seats and I wish they would apply it to all of the Mdx's (at least my '07).
