I am reporting a major safety failure on my 2017 Acura Mdx regarding the forward-facing multipurpose camera. Out of nowhere, the camera failed and triggered a cascade of warning lights across my entire dashboard. Because of this hardware defect, all of the critical safety systems—including the collision mitigation braking system (cmbs), lane keeping assist (lkas), and adaptive cruise control—are now completely disabled. Having these emergency systems shut down while driving in traffic is a serious safety hazard. Furthermore, the constant flashing of 5 or 6 different warning lights on the dash is a massive distraction while trying to operate the vehicle. This is a well-documented hardware failure in these models, and it shouldn't be left to the owners to pay thousands of dollars to fix a primary safety component that failed prematurely. This needs to be investigated as a mandatory safety recall before these failures lead to an accident.

While driving my 2020 Acura Mdx with 29,647 miles, all Acurawatch safety systems suddenly failed at once, including collision mitigation braking system (cmbs), lane keeping assist, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Multiple warning messages appeared simultaneously. This disabled forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane departure/lane keeping functions, creating a serious safety risk. The dealer inspected the vehicle and confirmed an internal failure of the multipurpose front camera/radar unit, and recommended replacement of the entire assembly. The repair estimate is $2,200. The dealer stated the component has failed and cannot be repaired. This issue is widely reported by many Acura owners of similar model years, and appears to be a recurring defect. The failure occurred without any impact, damage, or modification. The vehicle is available for inspection. The symptoms began suddenly and all warnings appeared at the same time. Because this failure disables critical collision-avoidance and lane-keeping systems, it presents a significant risk to the driver and others on the road. I believe this should be investigated as a safety defect.

Blind spot warning, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane keep assistance, and high beam lights keep flashing on dash giving a code u3000-49. The dealership quoted me $2000 to fix a faulty front facing camera. Research shows this is happening to thousands of people.
Monocular windshield camera failed for no apparent reason on five-year-old car with less than 50k miles. Dealer cost to fix $2k. My concern is there are an many individuals on the Acura Mdx forums complaining of the same problem. It appears to be a relatively common but very costly failure on many Honda vehicles that use similar cameras. I believe this is worthy of an investigation, especially since the camera is necessary for many safety related features to function properly.
The camera keep going online/offline in a middle of a highway while I'm on cruise control lkas, acc, camera, and ect warning lights keep coming on.
Constant errors in dash. Cruise control fails while driving. Auto braking no longer works. Warning of other vehicles in blind spots does not work anymore. Many error in dash display regarding the camera and lkas are displayed.
While driving on the freeway with my children, the vehicle started to shake and the emission system problem, transmission system problem and blind spot problem lights came on. The safety of myself and children were at risk due to being on the freeway and having to pull over on the side of the road. There were zero signs leading to this.

Camera is failing - reportedly due to a bad internal ground-wire. Acura is charging $900 for the part and $1600 for the installation and calibration of a new unit !! also - the unit is a black color, and located right behind the windshield, so bakes itself to death. Acura should be using white colors inside the space, limit the un-used volume, and recalling the units (or at least providing a low-cost unit) to allow simple replacement and improve safety. Such an important and expensive part should not be failing so often. The mxers. Org web site has hundreds of posts about this item. Also - the parts should be pre-calibrated! Acura wants several hundred $$ to calibrate it and 4 days to do it. Nhtsa should not be requiring adas technology if it is so fragile and expensive to fix/replace, as in the long-run owners will not maintain it (e. . G $2,400 repair bills for a small camera part nad 5 minute change). . Read more...
Front camera stopped working at 65 000 miles. Seems to be a faulty part as many hondas and Acuras have the same problem and the dealer wants over $2000 to replace a $700 part that sounds like less than 45 minutes to replace.
Failed component: front camera system controlling adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and other safety features. Safety risk: loss of these systems increases risk of collision, lane drift, and reduced driver reaction time. Date issue began: August 12, 2025. Confirmation: problem reproduced and confirmed by authorized Acura dealership. Inspections: inspected by Acura dealership only. Symptoms: dashboard alerts immediately after startup stating adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and lane keeping assist are unavailable; warnings remain active while driving.
The windshield camera suddenly failed one day while driving and it ended up disabling all the driver assist systems including the emergency braking, lane keep assist, forward collision, auto high beam, cruise control etc. Over the next few weeks the system kept randomly working and failing during driving every few hours or minutes. The discussion forums are filled with people complaining about the same issue with all Honda and Acura vehicles starting 2013 where they camera suddenly fails and then start working intermittently until it eventually fails. It seems Honda is using the same defective camera across all it's Honda and Acura models which is a big safety hazard and they refuse to acknowledge the issue.
The front lane assist camera has failed internally and now the lane assist, forward collision and adaptive cruise control no longer work. This has been a known issue and has happened to other Acura Mdxs. The warning lights are now coming on saying the vehicle had a brake system error. It also states that all systems related to this camera are inoperable.
On [xxx] I headed out for an event. I had been driving for 8 minutes when I lost the ability to steer, the brake, tsa, and steering system warning lights flashed on the dashboard and I immediately turned onto a side street. One message stated to contact dealership immediately, do not drive. The car was towed to mungenast st louis Acura. It was scheduled for service on Monday, June 23, already, so this was perfect. It was determined the battery failed. My concern is that prior to this event the vehicle's warning system gave no indication the battery needed attention, was low in power, or anything else related to the battery. I was on a busy street however, this event could have been very much different had I decided to take the highway to my event. 5 waning lights on : adaptive cruise control , lane departure warning , lane keeping assistance , front light, and the emergency braking . Service crew at Acura dealer told me that the front multipurpose camera has internal error. It is very dangerous since all these functions must be fixed before I can drive it on road.
I am reporting a failure of the multipurpose front windshield camera in my vehicle, which resulted in the loss of multiple safety systems including lane keeping assist system (lkas), road departure mitigation (rdm), adaptive cruise control (acc), auto high-beam, and collision mitigation braking system (cmbs). These features are critical to safe driving, and their sudden deactivation poses a serious safety risk to both the driver and others on the road. This issue required costly repairs. I believe this represents a safety defect that should be investigated by NHTSA.
2020 Acura Mdx tech package with 31600 miles, I purchased this vehicle first owner in March of 2021 and about 3 days ago 5/22/25 I get a fault reading for collision mitigation system problem, lane keep assist problem, road departure mitigation system problem, adaptive cruse control problem and auto high-beam problem, all safety feature issues, I brought vehicle to Acura dealership and they scanned for error codes which produced error code#u3000-49 for faulty multipurpose camera unit millimeter wave radar internal electronic failure recommend to replace the wave radar, dealership states vehicle is no longer under warranty and would cost a total of $1500 to get repaired and replaced , this issue should be looked into further for faulty Acura part if repair is done what are the chances of it happening again with normal usage of vehicle.
Faulty windshield camera. Which fails due to overheating. And sets off problem lights on the dashboard. Lane keep assist , lane departure, brake problem. This seems to be a common problem with this faulty design. To replace this part is $2,000 which who knows if it will fail again. So know one is forced to drive around with the constant problem lights and the uneasy feeling of not having brake assistance when and if needed. This puts not only the driver and passengers lives at risk but the lives of the public.
My vehicle intermittently fails to go into "drive" when pressing the gear shift button. Additionally, various warning messages appear at random, including: lane keeping assist problem, & road departure mitigation system problem. I have brought my vehicle to dch montclair Acura#709, located at 100 bloomfield Ave, verona, NJ 07044, on January 10, 2025, February 18, 2025, and March 13, 2025. Despite these visits and an inspection conducted by my extended warranty provider, the problem continues. On [xxx], while my daughter was a passenger, the vehicle once again failed to shift into drive when pressing the "d" button. This incident, like others before it, occurred without warning and reinforces my growing concern about the safety and reliability of the vehicle. I am now afraid to drive the car, unsure when it might fail again. I respectfully request that Acura take immediate and decisive action to investigate and resolve this issue. If a reliable repair cannot be made, I would like to discuss alternative remedies such as vehicle replacement of buyback under applicable warranties and safety protections.
### 1. **what component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request?** the rearview camera system in my 2020 Acura Mdx has malfunctioned. The camera, which is integral to several safety systems in the vehicle, has failed, causing significant safety concerns. The vehicle is available for inspection by an Acura dealership or independent service center upon request. ### 2. * was your safety or the safety of others put at risk?** the malfunction of the rearview camera directly impacts the **collision mitigation braking system (cmbs)**, **adaptive cruise control (acc)**, and **lane departure warning (ldw)** systems. These systems rely on cameras and sensors to detect obstacles, maintain a safe following distance, and alert the driver when switching lanes. Without the proper function of the rearview camera, these safety systems become unreliable, increasing the risk of head-on collisions, rear-end accidents, or unintended lane changes, which could lead to a serious crash. Furthermore, the area surrounding the malfunctioning camera becomes dangerously hot, posing a burn risk when touched, which adds another safety hazard. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes I have taken the vehicle to a dealership for a formal inspection, I have confirmed the issue through the consistent malfunctioning of the camera. The overheating and failure of the camera have been present since the issue began, and I have communicated this to Acura's customer service. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? the vehicle has been inspected by the manufacturer beyond the initial communication with Acura’s customer service. No inspection has been conducted by the police or insurance representatives. However, I have made Acura aware of the problem, and the customer service team, led by account manager monica.
The front camera seems to be faulty and is throwing warning lights on the dash. Lane keep assist system, front collision and adaptive cruise control lights show up. These warnings disappear when the car cools down, but does appear again.
Vehicle make/model/year: 2019 Acura Mdx component affected: forward collision avoidance / lane departure / adas (front camera system) summary of issue: I am filing this complaint regarding a recurring and dangerous issue involving the front windshield-mounted camera on our 2019 Acura Mdx. After purchasing this vehicle and driving approximately 5500 miles in las vegas, multiple critical safety warnings began appearing on the dashboard, including: •“collision mitigation system problem” •“road departure mitigation system problem” •“lane keeping assist problem” •“adaptive cruise control problem” these warnings occur continuosly. The warning lights won’t turn off, resulting in the complete shutdown of essential advanced driver assistance systems (adas). Safety concerns: this camera-related failure disables major safety features designed to prevent accidents. The driver is left without automatic emergency braking, lane keeping, or adaptive cruise control. This is especially dangerous at highway speeds. Acura has not issued a recall, despite the widespread nature of this problem and documented cases in other hot-weather regions. Service experience: we purchased the vehicle used from a Cadillac dealership. The issue began approximately 3 months after purchase. A mechanic confirmed that the front camera system is likely malfunctioning due to heat exposure—a known problem with this model. Why I’m reporting: I believe this is a safety defect that should prompt investigation. Acura appears to have issued technical service bulletins (tsbs) but has not taken action to proactively notify owners or issue a recall. This defect compromises driver and passenger safety and puts others at risk.
The last 3 times we had very insignificant snow accumulation, my vehicle dashboard lit up with 6 different warnings, some audible. When you look up the info on them it says the car cannot steer, break, will roll on a hill etc. One warning advises to remove all flammables from the car. I was very nervous and almost towed the car but since I was a mile from home I drove it and brought it to the dealer at 0730 next day. They said nothing was wrong. Snow or dirt probably got behind sensor. It has happened two more times in the next 10 days. I keep taking off work and nothing is wrong. The issue is when this happens you cannot change the vehicle to snow mode to drive. This is a safety feature as well as the flashing "brake" warning and audible alarm. I have a [xxx] and [xxx] driver and they do not want to operate this vehicle. Both times it happened again, I took it to the car wash and cleaned every visible camera and sensor to no avail. I am taking it back to the dealer again this Friday but if nothing is wrong with any of these systems then there is something wrong with the cameras because how can someone operate awd and snow mode when there are these false warnings and how do you know if they aren't false. I don't want to assume each time it's not but 3 times in 10 days and missing work, etc. Plus I am very nervous driving it like this. I reported it to Acura- they said there were no recalls. Would not provide info if they have prior complaints. On google, I have found numerous complaints about this. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
We experienced multiple/many warning lights all at the same time. Systems not working. Repeated every time. The Acura dealer diagnosed the problem to the dtc u3000-49 multipurpose camera internal electronic failure. Replaced the unit and they performed a couple of calibrations. Thank you, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Driving to work, about to merge onto the highway when my car beeped at me and several warning messages appeared on my dashboard: "road departure mitigation system problem. See your dealer. ; low speed braking control problem. See your dealer. ; electric power steering system problem. Steering assist not available. Do not drive. ; collision mitigation braking system problem. See your dealer. " simultaneously, the steering wheel became extremely hard to turn and the car would barely move, even when applying pressure to the gas pedal. I was, very slowly, able to turn my car off of the main road, onto a side street, and eventually into a parking lot. In the parking lot, I turned the car on and off several times but the warning messages returned and the steering wheel was almost impossible to move. I then opened Acura link and requested a roadside assistance for a tow. After approximately 20 minutes the tow truck showed up. I got out of the car and let the tow truck drive look. The warning messages on the dashboard were gone and the steering wheel was fine. Tow truck driver followed me to my Acura dealership. They have had the car since. Dealership said it was the "steering angle sensor". They are replacing with new. Never had issues before.

Problems may occur intermittently, including during engine startup and while driving, with warning messages appearing on the dashboard? auto high-beam problem, road departure mitigation sysem problem,, collsion mitigation system problem, lane keeping assist problem and adaptive cruise control problem. All of advanced driver assistance systems can't be used.
While driving on a local road (not highway), engine began to make a very loud sound. Sounds like metal on metal inside engine. Called local Acura dealer and they said that the connecting rod recall/problem that was announced in November 2023 "does not apply to my VIN".
On numerous occasions the electric power steering, lane departure warning, and lane keeping assist problem lights illuminate on the dash and I lose all power steering. My car becomes extremely difficult to turn, particularly at lower speeds. This is a major safety hazard and warrants a recall. Had my wife been driving when this occurred she would not be able to turn the vehicle. This has happened on several occasions over the past 2 weeks. The car is being taken to the dealership tomorrow. Note: it appears that Acura and Honda have extended the warranty on several models for a similar issue, but not the 2014 Acura Mdx.
