general problems of the 2019 Acura RDX - part 1

I own a 2019 Acura Rdx that I purchased new in 2018. It has now experienced three separate major water-intrusion events. The first two occurred while I lived in [xxx], including an incident in approximately 2021 that required an insurance claim, extensive repair, and about a month without the vehicle. The current incident occurred in [xxx]. Because the same issue has occurred in two different states and multiple times, I do not believe it is an isolated environmental event. In the current incident, I discovered pooled water beneath the front passenger-seat carpet and in the rear cargo area where the vehicle’s audio-system equipment is located. The audio system has stopped working. Before I discovered the water, the interior windows repeatedly fogged while the vehicle was parked and unoccupied, indicating excessive moisture trapped inside the cabin. The water may have been present for several days. The vehicle appears to require removal or lifting of the passenger seat and carpet to dry the underlying padding, inspect wiring and connectors, and prevent mold, corrosion, and further electrical damage. The rear cargo area and audio components also require inspection for moisture and corrosion. Prior repairs did not permanently resolve the water intrusion. The suspected source is the panoramic moonroof drain system or another water-management/body-sealing defect, but the exact source has not yet been confirmed. I am concerned that recurring water intrusion can cause electrical failures, interior mold, corrosion, loss of vehicle functions, and impaired visibility due to interior window fogging. I am requesting investigation of recurring water-intrusion complaints involving 2019 Acura Rdx vehicles, including moonroof drains, drain-hose routing, drain connections, rear cargo-area water paths, and front passenger-side water entry. My 2019 Rdx rear windshield glass shattered. The car was parked and not started. There was no impact or reason for it to shatter.

The front sunroof glass on my vehicle shattered without warning while the vehicle was in motion and without any impact, collision, or contact from an outside object. I had the vehicle inspected at autonation Acura [xxx]. The dealership's own service advisor confirmed in writing that the remaining glass "seems to be facing upward, which is an indication that it may have shattered due to pressure, as opposed to any outside influence," and stated explicitly that there was "no evidence of mistreatment/accident found during inspection. " I am enclosing a copy of that email. Despite this documented finding, Acura denied my warranty/goodwill claim for the repair telling me the glass had been broken by an outside force — a conclusion that directly contradicts the dealership's own written inspection. This is a known, documented issue Acura technical service bulletin 23-004 acknowledges spontaneous glass breakage as a known issue on this platform. My incident is consistent with that bulletin: no external impact, and physical evidence consistent with breakage from internal pressure rather than an outside force. I believe this points to a defect that Acura has already identified internally but is not consistently honoring at the claims level. This could have easily caused a wreck when it shattered or had the covering not be closed the glass could have injured anyone in the car and I travel with a [xxx] baby often. Came out to parked car, rear window was shattered with no damage to the rear area of the car. It was spontaneous without any apparent contact.

While parked, I got into my vehicle turned on the car engine put the car into reverse and was backing out of my driveway when the rear window exploded and shattered into many pieces.

Upon my entry into the vehicle I closed the driver side door and the back glass shattered all the way across.

Rear windshield has shattered spontaneously 3 times. 2 insurance claims have been filed, along with 3 transit police reports.

Rear window of 2019 Acura Rdx shattered while car was parked at my home after using remote start. No other damage to vehicle, there is currently a TSB 22-014 for this exact issue by Acura where they acknowledged that this happens to Rdx models from 2019-2022 but there is no recall to fix this potentially dangerous issue. I luckily was not driving when this happened.

My car is awd. Occasionally when I am driving my car will feel like its stalling and an error message appears on the dash saying there’s an error with the awd system and only front wheel driving is working.

The hatch window of the car broke spontaneously while parked. There were no debris or damage made to it. The glass broke right above the window shield wiper and the rest of the window was intact with spider web like shatter.

The back windshield has cracked on two occasions in the span of six months.

Shattered back windshield is common but not recalled. Also another issue I am having is a jammed seatbelt. Acura currently told me my windshield is not covered because it’s a canadian car. Wondering if my seatbelt issue will be resolved or not too because it’s also a canadian car. .

I own a 2019 Acura Rdx advance with a head-up display (hud). The hud projection surface suddenly became warped and cracked after sun exposure. This was not gradual deterioration or normal wear and tear—it happened abruptly. The resulting distortion directly affects the clarity of the hud and creates visual interference in my forward line of sight. This impacts my ability to clearly see the road and can be distracting while driving, creating a potential safety hazard. This appears to be a known issue reported by other owners of the same vehicle model, suggesting a defect in materials or design that cannot withstand normal environmental conditions like sunlight. Despite this, the manufacturer has denied goodwill assistance for repair. I am submitting this complaint because this defect affects driver visibility and may increase the risk of an accident.

The rear windshield shattered on my 2019 Acura Rdx while parked in the garage, not sure how it happened or if its a defect.

Rear window shattered without cause. First incident occurred on March 26, 2024 for which I replaced the rear window. The second incident occurred on February 18, 2026. The defect occurred in exactly the same pattern and place (near the windshield wiper) and shattered the entire rear window both times. During both instances there was cold weather and rain. I do not think that this is a coincidence and luckily did not occur while I was driving or had my child in the car. I have found evidence online that I am not the only one with this complaint.

The back window shattered by itself.

The rear windshield spontaneously cracked. There was nothing wrong with the vehicle and no physical damage was done. The car was started with remote start and the rear windshield defroster turned out. After approaching the vehicle and opening the trunk, pieces of the window began to fall as it was shattered. Small vibrations made the window continue to crumble until nothing was left in the back. This has been reported to Acura who will not cover the issue even though there is a service bulletin 22-014 stating there is a defect. Acura has stated the vehicle is not covered even though the issue is for all vins.

My rear windshield shattered during the winter. There was no signs of any damage beforehand. There was broken glass everywhere and I could’ve seriously cut myself or anyone back there could’ve been hurt by the pieces of broken glass. I had to file a police report for my insurance. Many car dealerships are refusing to fix! there’s too many reports of this happening!.

Rear windshield shattered with no sign of impact. This is a known problem with this model. Luckily the window had tint so it is holding the glass together from falling into the vehicle. Vehicle was parked and unoccupied at time of this incident.

The back tailgate glass shattered. It was parked, I had just turned it on. And as I was starting to shift it to reverse it shattered. A pop the soundof glass falling. I slammed on breaks got out the window was broken, missing. All along the windsheild wiper. I had to get it fixed after 5 days waiting for the glass to come in by safelite.

Was driving vehicle to work in normal weather conditions with all windows closed. Rear windshield glass shattered.

2nd time rear window shattered for no reason 1/27/26 1st time 11/7/2023 fortunately no one is car when happened parked car.

Rear window shattered in the morning when closing front passenger door. Car was parked in driveway. Was not running. Had been parked since previous afternoon in the same spot. Very large hole in center of rear window, all surrounding glass shattered.

Rear windshield of 2019 Acura Rdx shattered while driving approximately 35 mph and the rear defroster was on. Nothing hit my car. It was extremely loud and startling. Luckily, I was on a surface street driving fairly slowly and nobody was next to me when I quickly exited the lane. Lucky no one was hurt. Despite there being a service bulletin, Acura refused to assist in the repair.

My rear window suddenly and completely shattered without any contact to the window. This was a safety issue do the breaking of glass and not being able to drive safely after it broke.

My vehicle was parked inside my garage and turned off when the rear back window (rear windshield) suddenly shattered without warning. There was no impact, accident, or object involved. The glass was factory-installed with no prior damage. This spontaneous failure is a safety concern and may indicate a manufacturing or design defect because I looked it up and there are other cases of the same situation on videos.

Rear window shattered when driver door was closed. There is a class action lawsuit for this. 2022-024.

Vehicle is an Acura Rdx (model year 2019), with approximately 94000 miles at the time of incident. There was no impact, no vandalism, no accident, and no extreme weather conditions at the time. The glass shattered on its own. This appears to be a known defect affecting Acura Rdx vehicles from model years 2019–2023, as documented by multiple consumer reports of spontaneous rear windshield failure. I brought the vehicle to the selling dealership (pohanka Acura, chantilly, va), where I was informed Acura would not cover the repair solely because the vehicle exceeded 50,000 miles. No inspection for defect or goodwill repair was offered, despite the nature of the failure. This defect presents a significant safety concern, as spontaneous glass shattering can cause injury from flying glass shards and poses a risk to occupants and bystanders. Acura has not issued a recall or corrective action for this issue.

Rear window shattered with no impact marking first time. Second time was shattered in two separate areas with glass shards outside of the car.

This is the 2nd time the back window shattered, lucky my insurance covers it. . But say this it still happen would it be a third time next? 1st time it shattered was on January 18, 2023. 2nd time it shattered it was on December 18 2025. Imagine driving on the highway and you here your back window pop and the glass come flying in? sounds dangerous! lucky it was parked when that happen as I got into my car. I did reported the 1st time to a dealership but not help at all. No one have inspected the vehicle only my insurance knows about the broken back window.

Rear window shattered spontaneously without impact. This is a know issue with Acuras and they refuse to issue a recall or support for cars out of warranty.

I am writing to report an incident involving the rear window of my2019 Acura Rdx that shattered unexpectedly. The incident occurred while the vehicle was parked at my workplace. I was notified by a CO-worker that the rear window had shattered. Upon inspection, there was no obvious sign of a collision, vandalism, or other event that would explain the damage. A glass replacement company was called to my workplace to replace the shattered rear window. After examining the vehicle, the technician advised that there was no evidence of an external impact, such as a rock strike or other object, that would have caused the glass to break. Because the window appeared to shatter without any apparent outside force, I am concerned that this may indicate a defect in the rear glass or its installation. I respectfully request that this incident be documented and reviewed as a potential safety-related issue. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
