On February 7, 2024 I called insurance and filed a claim for my vehicle that was sitting in my driveway at the time of the incident. Upon getting in my car, the rear windshield, which had no chips, breaks, lights, etc. Imploded into my vehicle. They stated they believed this happened due to the defroster. It was repaired using insurance at a certified local glass repair shop. Today, 11/14/25 I was making a turn from a stopped position and yet again the rear window imploded into my vehicle. The rear window had no issues at the time of implosion and is parked safely inside a garage to prevent weather effects. This is a very clear safety issue as I have a car seat in my back seat that are all rear facing and the window has now imploded twice. Acura acknowledged this, and as provided so hasn't the nhsta. But the safety concern is refusing to be fixed and I cannot continue to have a vehicle that the rear glass implodes within two years causing potential harm to children, and back seat passengers.
On Wednesday, November 5th, the rear glass on my 2019 Acura Rdx spontaneously shattered without warning. I brought the vehicle to safelite for repair; however, they were unable to assist due to the technical complexity of removing and replacing the glass. I then contacted an Acura dealership by phone and was advised that I may be required to replace the entire rear hatch, rather than just the glass. I have since learned that technical service bulletin (TSB) 22-014 acknowledges an issue affecting rear-glass failure, but it is limited to certain 2019–2020 models and VIN ranges. No recall has been issued, despite numerous reports of this same defect. Additionally, there is an ongoing class-action lawsuit related to this issue (tyzcko & zavareei llp). I am submitting this complaint because Acura is refusing to repair or replace the shattered rear glass despite its being a known design defect. This failure represents a serious safety hazard, as occupants seated in the rear of the vehicle could be severely injured if the glass were to shatter while in motion. I believe Acura must be held responsible and required to issue a recall, as well as provide repair coverage, especially for vehicles now out of warranty. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate this issue due to the clear safety concerns and growing number of similar incidents.
We have owned our 2019 Acura Rdx for about 4 years. Roughly 2 years ago my wife called me panicked that the car had lost power and the check engine light was on as she was exiting the freeway. It was a rainy day, she had our kids in the car on the way to a soccer game. I called off work with an emergency, drove an hour to where she was and scanned the car. No codes popped up on my scanner, I started the vehicle and it seemed to run like normal, no check engine light. I had it towed to Honda of gresham, or and after a week or so they called and said they couldn't find anything wrong with our vehicle. I paid for a oil change, a tow and a dealer diagnostics and was told they could not find anything. $500 later no answers. Fast forward 2 years oct 26th 2025 I was driving the Rdx this time, in the rain on the freeway. Wife and kids in the car. Went to accelerate past a slow driver and the car went into limp mode. Check engine light flashing and limited to 40 mph or so, I put the hazards on as I was on a single lane bridge with traffic behind me. I pulled over after the bridge and turned the vehicle off. After 5 minutes or so I started the car again and everything seems fine, no check engine lights nothing seems off. I continued on down the freeway without any more incident. I started researching what is going on and find many many reports of this same thing. Acura has a TSB for a front mount intercooler as the fix, but when I took ours in for the stated problem they couldn't find a problem. This car looks beautiful, but it's a safety hazard on the freeway when moisture is present, we live in the pnw and it rains 7 months out of the year. I have owned 10-12 hondas in my lifetime and this 2019 Acura Rdx is the worst. Absolutely a safety hazard to my family. Disappointed this will be the last Honda we buy.
Upon exiting my car, I heard a loud crashing sound. The rear windshield had completely shattered upon closing the driver side door and glass was everywhere. Had my rear windshield decided to spontaneously implode 5 minutes earlier while driving on the interstate, I most likely would have had a bad car accident. Acura has a service bulletin out regarding this, as it’s a known issue. They refuse to cover cost or do a recall on this known safety issue. Someone is going to get killed when their back windshield blows out driving and they think they’ve been shot. Absolutely terrible and irresponsible on Acura/Honda’s part.
Back window exploding while sitting for no reason at all.
The back window burst randomly with no pressure. There are thousands of complaints in the facebook groups. The car was parked when this happened in.
An Acura dealership won't diagnose a rear windshield issue, and I contact twice the Acura corporate to express my concern and they told me to contact a different Acura dealership. My car rear windshield shattered twice since I bought it.
On July 12, 2025 my husband, the driver, and myself, owner of the vehicle and passenger this day, were driving on the freeway at approximately 7:00am in the middle lanes of the freeway. Without any codes or warnings beforehand, we heard the car make alarming beeps and automatically loss all power to the engine while traveling at highway speeds. This situation put my husband and my lives at risk and in a dangerous situation as there was traffic on a busy freeway and lost all power to the vehicle and made even maneuvering off the freeway a dangerous action as we had no warning beforehand there was something wrong. My husband was able to get us safely out of harms way. After being diagnosed at a mechanic, it turns out this problem happened due to a cracked cylinder head and had no previous warnings of an issue and no warning lights on the vehicle alerting to a problem, I will have the cylinder head in my possession and the mechanic I took my vehicle stated it cannot be ruled out this could be a manufacturer’s or casting defect. I tried contacting Acura corporation about this situation but was told that since I did not take it to a dealership and have a certified tech look at my vehicle, there will be no case and no type of remedy or reimbursement for this situation.
This safety issue is the sunroof glass. I was driving when the sunroof glass exploded and shattered, without warning. The sunroof itself and the shade underneath were both closed. The shade is the only thing that kept the shattered glass from falling into the vehicle and onto me. If the shade had been open, the glass would have fallen on to me and any passengers, possibly causing injury or death. The sound of the explosion alone is enough to cause panic, stress and impaired driving, putting everyone on the road in danger. The shattered glass was blowing off of the vehicle and onto other vehicles behind and those traveling the other lane. The past few days have been extremely hot. That is the only outlier that I can pin point, that may have caused stress to the sunroof. The vehicle sits under a carport at home and when I'm at work it is parked in an open parking lot. I was driving home from work after making a few stops, again, on an extremely hot day, Monday, June 24, 2025. There have been record-breaking heat days during this week. As I looked at the exploded sunroof, I can tell that the the glass exploded out/up instead of anything pushing the glass down. I did not call the police. I did call Honda/Acura customer service to file a complaint. I filed an insurance claim; which is still going to cost me $1,000. 00 deductible to repair. My insurance has referred me to safelite solutions. The vehicle is available to view now and until it's able to be repaired; which I'm working on now.
Rear glass shattered spontaneously when closing the driver door. Sharp glass was everywhere and is now coming out of the back when it is opened or closed. The problem has been confirmed via independent service center. There were no warning signs or symptoms prior to failure.
Back rear shield shattered.
My husband, kids and I were headed home from dinner around 8:30 pm and the sunroof randomly exploded. Nothing hit it at all.
I discovered the rear lift gate glass of my vehicle to be shattered while parked inside of my garage. There was no known external contact that impacted the glass. There is glass remaining inside of the door itself after the glass was replaced by Acura. This is an issue that is widespread on this model vehicle.
On or about March 10, 2025, I brought my vehicle to Acura of ocean in ocean township, NJ. My infotainment center was crackling continuously, and the screen was black, rendering my navigation system, radio, clock, and apple carplay unusable. The constant crackling, with the screen downloading graphics, and various messages popping up, such as "check tuner" and "network connection lost," is a constant distraction and annoyance while driving. I have no choice but to use my iphone, forcing me to take my eyes off the road. The dealer inspected the car and informed me that my amplifier and tuner had water damage from a leak on the tailgate top seal. I paid Acura $258. 71 to have the seal replaced. I was told the seal caused the water damage and was given an estimate for $3339. 09 to replace both components. I contacted Honda of America because I had learned of a recall of 2019 Acura Rdxs for this precise problem. The case manager of Honda got back to me and informed me that Honda of America offered to pay all but $1366. 93 to replace the components. I refused the offer because I do not see how I should be liable for any cost. It remains unclear why my VIN did not appear during the recall and why I received no notice of said recall. I strongly feel that Honda's offering me any money is an admission of responsibility/guilt for this problem. If there were no liability, Honda would have offered nothing. I hope to receive communication back from your agency advising what I should do in order to have Honda recognize and admit their error and make good on the repair. Thank you, and please help! sincerely, mrs. Cindy garber.
On 2/20/2025 I was getting off work. Proceeded to get in my car and close my door. The back window just shattered and broke out of no where. I didn't know or understand what had just happen since I was not hit nothing was thrown at my car. Call abington Acura dealership was told they were aware of the problem. I would have to go through my insurance company for the 1100. 00 repair don't understand how I am liable for an issue that was cause on Acura's behalf.
Rear window shield shattered while the car is sitting in the park with no exterior impact. According to Acura there is a bulletin about this issue. Contacted the dealer they're manipulating this by charging customers. . .
Back rear window on 2019 Acura Rdx aspec trim, the glass unexpectedly shattered upon closing the driver side door. Glass and heating defrost element on back window is likely a manufacturer defect causing the unexpected window glass shattering.
Rear window shatters without any warning can be extremely dangerous when happens while driving due to it sounding like a gunshot I can be severely distracting to driver causing the driver to lose control of vehicle or swerve into other lanes and injure other drivers. Incident occurred twice nice in November 2023 and a second time February 2025.
Rear windshield glass unexpectedly shattered while I started it up inside the garage.
The back window of the Rdx randomly shattered. I had just finished pumping gas, closed the door, and the window shattered. I had to drive home with a hole in my back window with glass falling as I drove. I took it to the dealer and was told because my car's warranty had expired, I had to pay $1200, and I had to wait six days before it could be fixed. However, I was told this is a manufacturer defeat that has to do with the defrost system. The dealer never looked at the damage. I had to go through my insurance company. There was no warning that this would happen. I had to go online to gain knowledge that this is a recurring issue with Rdxs from 2019-2023. I should not have to put out any money for what is an Acura defect.
My back window just shattered again, I had to get it replaced the first time 11 months ago. I just left class and I see this has happened. I’m highly upset about this and I want to know why is this happening to my car?.
El cristal DE mi guagua DE la parte trasera se me ha explotado 4 veces y me informa que ES algo DE fábrica con la guagua DE este año necesito ya una ayuda urgente porque mi seguro DE carro me ha subido debido ah tanto reporte por este caso.
My car was parked when my rear windshield shattered. I drove my car to the dealership and they said they will file a claim and wait for a response.
On 12/21/24 I was driving down the mountain into town when I heard this very loud noise, like someone threw a baseball at my truck. I was startled and shaken up. Glanced in my rear view mirror and saw my rear windshield had exploded. When I was able to pull over to inspect it, the window imploded into the back of my truck. Drove directly to safelite. Told to go through insurance which I did. Windshield repaired on 12/24, paid for by insurance. Found out in the meantime that Acura had an issue with 2019-2023 Rdx exploding rear windshields due to a possible faulty rear defroster. I had just turned on my rear defroster before this happened to me. They issued a TSB to dealerships. I never got a recall. Contacted Acura for insurance reimbursement and wanted to have my electrical system checked at their expense. After several conversations, I was denied. Case was closed last week. Although my vehicle was a 2019, my VIN was not included in campaign. I also was not privy to what the exact recall said as my VIN was not included. I was told I should’ve brought it to a Honda dealer for inspection and repair. Why would I do that when I didn’t know there was an Acura issue? I live in the adirondacks where it snows every day. Time was of the essence. Now I will not use my rear defroster in fear it may happen again. I also will not use my heated seats as I am afraid there is an electrical issue. I can live without the heated seats but driving without a rear defroster in the north country is not exactly safe. I had asked for them to broaden their recall as it was obvious the same thing happened to my truck but was denied. I have googled and found there a quite a few people who this has happened to, one woman has it happen twice within three months. I feel this is an extremely dangerous issue that Acura will not take accountability for. I also have not had recall done as the nearest dealer is an hour away. Acura will not allow me have have it done by Honda dealer 20 min away.
It is about 50 degrees clear, with no rain. I drive onto the highway and hear what sounds like a gunshot. The rear window explodes, and then glass flies all over the car; I roll down my window, and then glass goes everywhere, and all my stuff in the car flies around. I pull over and assess; this is the same thing that happened to me last year. The window randomly exploded. I called my insurance company, and they replaced it, but now the glass is stuck in the door. I called three 3 Acuras, and they all mentioned they hadn't heard of the issue until I mentioned the bulletin; now they say they have heard of it before but don't know if there is a way to help. Primary safety concern and a bit of a coverup by Acura.
The rear window shattered without any reason. The car had been driven with the rear defroster on. Shortly after parking the vehicle, turning it off, getting out of the vehicle, the back window exploded. There were no warning lights related to this issue. The problem has been reported a number of times and there is a class action lawsuit filed: https://mycarvoice. Com/news/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Acura-rdx-rear-glass-lawsuit. Pdf.
Problem with rear back mirror defects after so long my back window shattered with no reason.
Started car up while parked in shopping center to warm up. The entire rear windshield glass popped and shattered. Took pictures and found out that Acura Rdx from 2019 to 2023 have known to have this issue relating to faulty rear defroster wiring and glass. Opening a case with our local elite Acura dealership where we purchased vehicle from.
This morning I awoke to another shattered rear windshield. I had the exact same thing happen in January of this year. This is my second out of cost rear windshield replacement due to the known problem Acura has failed to address. I have spent over 1,000 dollars on replacement glass in addition to my car being in the shop for 3 months waiting for a fuel pump. This is ridiculous, and something needs to be done.
While we were driving we heard what sounded like a shot, when we pulled over we noticed the rear window was shattered, and noticed nothing had gone through or hit it after inspecting it. My daughter was scared to stay in the car so we had to call someone to pick them up and give them a ride. The dealership told me my vehicle is no longer under warranty only drivetrain warranty and that it was not their problem to call my insurance is what I got told. Hundreds of others have had the same issue after doing some research online. There was no warning or cracking of any kind before this. Incident happened on 11/17/24 at 7:45pm.
The rear windshield shattered into pieces while I got to my car after work :( warranty did not cover it had to pay out of pocket I have seen many post about the rear windshield shattered should be recalled !!.
I am writing to formally bring to your attention a recurring and concerning design issue with the Acura Rdx involving the sunroof drainage system. This problem appears to stem from a flawed design in which the drainage channels frequently become clogged, leading to water accumulating and eventually leaking into the vehicle’s cabin and trunk areas. In my personal experience, this defect has resulted in persistent water intrusion that not only damages the interior but creates a serious risk for mold and mildew growth, along with unpleasant and unhealthy odors from sitting water. The accumulation of stagnant water inside a sealed vehicle presents a clear health and safety concern, particularly for families and daily commuters. The cost to have the drains professionally cleared at the dealership is approximately $300 per visit. I have been advised that this cleaning will be an ongoing necessity, despite the fact that this type of maintenance is not commonly expected of vehicle owners as part of standard upkeep. In comparison, this expense surpasses the cost of regular oil changes or tire rotations — yet it addresses a problem that stems from the car’s design rather than from use or neglect. I contacted both the dealership and Honda customer service and was told there is no permanent fix for this issue. The best they could offer was to cover 50% of the cost for a temporary solution — drain cleaning — which does nothing to resolve the root design flaw and will inevitably need to be repeated. As a consumer who has invested in a premium vehicle, I find this resolution to be unacceptable and financially burdensome. I respectfully request that the NHTSA investigate this matter as a potential defect affecting vehicle safety and integrity. Given the number of similar complaints circulating in consumer forums and online reviews, it is clear that this is not an isolated incident, but rather a systemic problem that deserves further attention and possible action.
Came out from my house at 7am to go to work, to see that my back windshield was completely shattered. There were no signs of someone trying to break in or forced entry into the vehicle.
When I opened the driver’s door, I hear a pop and saw the rear windshield glass has shattered.
The rear window spontaneously shattered. There were no warning signs. My car was at work, parked all day. When I got into my car and shut the door, the rear window shattered.
