Rear window spontaneously shattered. The weather was very cold and snowing. I used the rear defroster to melt off the snow. I went inside a retail store for about a hour and when I returned to my SUV I found my rear window shattered. There was no damage to the rear hatch or signs of trying to break in the SUV. I turned this in on my insurance.

The rear glass spontaneous exploded. The vehicle was parked in my driveway. It.
The panoramic sunroof exploded on our Acura Rdx model 2021. Me, my wife and our 3 month old son were returning from dinner, we took the ramp and about to merge on a highway then we heard a loud and sudden explosive noise which scared all of us. Thank god we had the sunroof blind partially closed over the real infant seat, so the glass shatters left some minor cuts on my left forearm and back (glass pieces got between my back and driving seat). Also, the glass pieces did cut the sunroof blind/rolling cloth screen. We are glad that we made home safe and not sure what is the process of getting the issue fixed by the manufacturer and thorough cleaning up of the glass remains/dust. Please advise.

My issue is with the liftgate on all Acura models including my own Rdx. I was sitting on the edge of the van with the liftgate fully opened taking off my spikes after golfing. I inadvertantly triggered the fob in my pocket when I leaned forward causing the liftgate to close. At first I did not realize it was closing on me ,but jumped up and it caught me on my upper back. I avoided serious injury. Brought it to the dealership and it appears to be common to all makes of Acura with liftgates. Serious pressure has to be put on the liftgate in order for it to stop . Page 177 of my manual states the if the liftgate detects resistance it will reverse itself. We tested it at the dealership and a great amount of pressure has to be used for it to stop and reverse. This is a serious defect and needs correction before someone gets seriously injured. The service advisor almost hurt her arm trying to get the liftgate to stop . It is not only my vehicle. The sensors do not react appropriately. I have had two Nissan murano's before purchasing this vehicle and as soon as you got in the way of the liftgate as it closed it stopped and reversed itself. Acura has a serious problem here and it needs to be recalled and corrected immediately. I am totally surprised if this has not been brought to anyone's attention. Hopefully you will test this and see what I am expressing here. Thank you for you time and and I await your response .

I was driving my car and had just entered the highway and my panoramic sunroof exploded. It sounded like a gun had went off in my car. I immediately drove to the dealership who informed me that it was not covered under warranty. I had it replaced as I was out of town 8 hours from home and the glass started falling onto the headliner which I kept closed for safety. I did catch the incident on my dashcam which recorded the audio and video through the windshield. There was no warning that it was going to happen and we were not close enough to other vehicles for incidental contact.

“I went to my garage to get my car and off to work supposedly, I put my bag inside the car back set and close it after that I heard a crinkling and shattering noise. When I checked around I saw the rear windshield of my car is totally shattered before I get in the vehicle and before starting. It sounded as if something was in the rear of the vehicle. The entire rear window glass was shattered. There was no impact, no foreign object hit it, etc. It simply shattered while sitting in the driveway, with the vehicle off, when I closed the door. “ I cleaned my car last night and no indentation or any crack or line on the window but the shattered line is all over the rear window literally. And per my research, says that tons of Acura Rdx 2019 and up models have this kind of sudden shuttering of the rear window without any hit. This is very dangerous . . Good thing my situation is not like the others that their rear window suddenly broke while on the highway. Hopefully, a just will be served. And it's not right for us owners to pay for this situation (rear glass + service fee), and I lost my job today because of this situation. This is very unsafe for anyone who owns this kind of car. Very unacceptable since Acura already know about this issue before and still they are selling this kind of defective car.
Rear window shattered without any impact. This is a known Acura issue due to faulty rear defroster grid. There was a bulletin issued but not a recall. Called local dealership and they are aware of the issues. Inspected and replaced glass on 3/7/2023.
On Friday, January 13, 2023, the rear hatch window on my 2023 Rdx spontaneously shattered while it was sitting in my garage. After I discovered it, I searched for a cause and found nothing. I had just purchased this vehicle on 12/3/22. I discovered online similar complaints being made about the rear windshield glass and sunroof exploding in previous model years. The photos of the previous rear hatch window explosions matched exactly what my Rdx looked like. I also discovered an Acura service bulletin #22-014 dealing with this issue for the 2019 and 2020 model years. In answer to your questions . . . It was the rear hatch window (aka, rear windshield glass) which failed. The vehicle is now with the dealer; inspection would have to be done quickly as I have made a warranty claim to have it repaired. Safety could have been an issue had I been in the vehicle. Problem has existed on previous models. No one except the dealer has inspected the Rdx. There were no warning signals with before the failure or afterwards.
Rear windshield combusted without external impact while parked. There was sharp pieces of glass inside my vehicle. Acura is aware via a service bulletin. It was inspected at Acura service. There were no symptoms for prior warning.
When backing out of my driveway and turning wheel to the left I get two loud popping noises from behind me. Other online reports identify this as a problem with the sunroof. I also have instances where the sunroof does not fully close unless I repush the close button. Dealer rep suggested this is most likely due to an issue with the sunroof.
When I was approaching my vehicle from the rear, I noticed my back window had chunks of glass missing and it appeared cracked. As I got closer, I noticed the entire back window was shattered. Pieces of glass were on the ground, meaning this occurred here, at the store. I would have noticed this earlier when leaving work because I approach my vehicle from the rear and the window was fine. Even looking through the rear window while driving it was clear. I went back into the store I was at and asked the store management to review the cameras to see if a person did this. I contacted the police. Management of the store stated no one approached my vehicle. They did see “a weird occurrence of the glass just shatter, no one was near the vehicle”. The police showed up, reviewed video and said there was nothing they could do because no crime was committed. I contacted my insurance to have it repaired. I had to drive the vehicle home and then to safelite to have it repaired, all while my rear view vision was obstructed by having shattered glass. The way the glass shattered, pieces could have struck a person walking by. If I were in the vehicle or had people in the backseat, they would have been struck with glass. Glass was scattered all throughout the back of the vehicle. I believe the tint I had on the window kept it from completely falling into the trunk. If this would have happened while being driven, it could have caused an accident. Safelite replaced the window, but was unable to remove the glass that had fallen into the tailgate. I now hear glass moving around when I drive and also when I lift and lower my tailgate. This is going to depreciate the vehicle value and also prevent me from selling the vehicle. I have also noticed while doing research, many other owners of Rdx are having the same issue, yet no recall. Acura has not considered this to be a problem.
Rear windshield shattered while parked and the car was not running. There was a bulletin only at the time. Called customer service. They advised to submit an insurance claim, which I didn’t do. The dealership disputed with them and ended up replacing it at their cost. Later several others in the area experienced the same thing. Acura acknowledged there was a problem with the rear windshield defroster. I still have pieces of glass within the hatch.
The sun roof just shatter in pieces when I was driving due to the sun or heat we live in chicago.

Reported problem of rear tail gate making loud popping noises first reported at 4454 miles current reading 21470 miles gunshot popping noises continue when tailgate opens. Contacted dealer and Acura with ticket numbers unresolved with incessant diagnosis and false assurances.
Opened my Acura Rdx car door, sat down, closed the door - and then my rear windshield shattered and collapsed into my trunk. I knew of no damage to it - the car is a 2020, relatively new - this incident caught me my complete surprise. Searched on internet, and see similar complaints from other Acura owners about exploding rear windshields after closing driver side door.
My rear windshield popped while my car was parked in my workplace without hitting any thing on it . I read on line lots of owner for Acura had a same problem .
On Nov 20th 2021 took the vehicle for oil change, to Acura dealer. The service tech informed me the hood its not opening. The latch or cable its broken. The part its not in stock. I can't open the hood to check all necessary fluids, especially windshield washer fluid. I think its safety concern when I'm out of washer.
The sunroof exploded with no outside impact. I drive to the office in the morning and as soon as I put the car in park the sunroof exploded with a huge noise. Nothing fell on the sunroof and there was nothing wrong with the sunroof until then. I had opened and closed the sunroof the day before with no issues. The sunroof exploded and shattered the glass in thousands of pieces. Fortunately the sunshade was closed which protected the shattered glass from falling on me.

Paint started to peel off at upper side of rear roof (under the upper side of the gate). I have reported this issue el the dealership and as of today they haven’t yet responded. Vehicle sleeps in the garage every day and. Only has about 72,000 miles. Same issue happened with my 2012 Honda odyssey (same white diamond color). Honda fixed the van under extended warranty. So I hope Acura (Honda) does the same for my Rdx. I understand same is happening on the mdx of similar years.
When this Rdx’s weight distribution shifts/flexes from turning out of a driveway or any parking entrance with an incline/decline the panoramic moonroof makes a popping sound across the rear of the moonroof. This occurs from both rear corners of the moonroof. The moonroof frame may be knocking around the body of the car due to lack of insulation or the moonroof frame not fitting properly. The problem appears to be fairly widespread with some owners on the Acura forum site, Acurazine, claiming the popping actually shattered the moonroof glass while driving. The popping sound that I experience daily, combined with the countless similar complaints is what has prompted me to file this complaint. Https://acurazine. Com/forums/third-generation-rdx-2019-454/panoramic-sunroof-popping-982149/ hopefully this can lead to an investigation and recall. Thank you.
Both myself and husband have heard knock or loud pop sound. One loud knock or two with slight level change such as entering or leaving driveway. Many other Acura Rdx owners have reported same issue. Appears to be flexing of panoramic sunroof. My vehicle is one week old (was courtesy vehicle) 2021 Acura Rdx. In shop now. Many have reported service issues with no resolution through dealership or Acura. Several owners have added issues with sunroof leaking and even blow out of sunroof window.
Tailgate window randomly shattered with no force or impact to the vehicle and had to replace it with my insurance.
Certain areas of the roof and tailgate are peeling off, exposing bare metal. This is a one owner car that has been garage since new.

My vehicle was parked, running and unoccupied on the street. My wife entered from the passenger side reaching in to retrieve something from the center console. She pressed the start/stop engine button to shut off the vehicle. The car started rolling backwards down a hill, knocking my wife to the ground causing injury. Car continued to roll until it struck a tree.

The exterior black plastic garnish pillars (between the windows) has severely deformed from the heat of the sun. I have replaced them twice, as they have deformed and warped so much that it is causing friction on the window operation and prevents normal window opening and closing. The black plastic part has a flat black finish and becomes extremely hot from the direct sunlight or reflection off other windows of my house or other cars. They have warped so badly that I had to replaced them twice. The first time at the dealers expense and the second time at my expense. I have noted that the newer 2020 models have changed the pillars from a flat black finish to a highly reflective shiny black finish, that will reflect the light and not become as hot as the flat black soft plastic pillars that my vehicle has. Acura should recall these defective parts and replace them with a harder plastic that will not warp from the heat of the sun.
On tv news after seeing a couple of cars even a small SUV overturned in the exact location I damaged my Acura Rdx. I decided to report my accident. Not sure the exact date but give or take October 15,2019. It was in the beginning of construction at the corner of tremont Ave and van nest a island was constructed with what would become a stand up two and a half foot square box which looks like the base for a street light. I was making a left hand turn at the light. This stood in a blind spot no markings no barricades nothing no cones and no flags . I didn't know anything until I felt and heard the boom bang. I then got out and looked and really saw nothing didn't want to hold up traffic it was around 6-7 pm. I love my vehicle. It is a lease but I take such good care of it. I looked at it again and was broken hearted the impact was from the bottom which caused body damage.
I was driving down the highway and my moonroof suddenly shattered. I had taken a left hand turn onto the highway and shortly after I reached the 55 mph speed limit I heard a loud noise and didn't know what happened at first, then I heard more crackling from above and figured it was the moonroof. Luckily I had the shade closed and there were no other vehicles around me at the time. Since there were no other vehicles around and I wasn't driving under an overpass, it seems to me this happened spontaneously vs something like a rock hitting the moonroof.
I was driving my car on an expressway in mild rain and stopped at a red light when I heard a loud bang. I was concerned and pulled in immediately into a gas station. The moonroof shade was open. I got out of the car and inspected around but didnot see anything noticeable. As I got into the car to drive, I noticed a piece of glass falling. That is when I looked up and to my utter dismay saw that the front part of the panoramic moon roof was totally shattered. That's what caused the loud bang. I pulled the moon roof shade and returned home immediately. After reaching home, I checked the roof to find a large part of the roof was missing and the sides cracked. I had the car towed to the dealership. I am 100% sure that nothing hit my car. This is a security hazard and need to be taken seriously by Acura/Honda. To put things into perspective, this car was bought 6 months ago brand new and has just 3500 miles on it. Not good.
Have had this car a year. Withing 6 months shifter would not shift back to park and couldnt turn car off. Dealer found acorns jammed in transmission somewhere felt to be due to squirrels or other rodents. This month emissons light came on. Found fuel line leaking due to animals chewing on it. Not covered under warranty. $1100 to fix. I feel the engine housing is not well sealed allowing this to happen have never had this issue with any other cars which have been parked in same place for long periods of time. Feel it should be fixed under warranty to prevent it from happening again. Vehicle sits outside driven twice a week.
Today (12/30/18) our brand new 2018 Acura Rdx's sunroof exploded while driving ( straight road, normal highway speed, excellent weather conditions and light to no Sunday morning traffic). The sound was a loud and intense pop overhead. . . . . . The glass sunroof was completely shattered. We immediately closed the headliner roof shade to protect us. Within a minute or so the glass started to break apart and hit the highway. We got off the highway as soon as we could. Then got out to access the damage. No sign of any external impact! we thought it had to be a freak engineering defect in the glass. We expect Acura to tell us that "they have never heard of such a thing before" when we bring the car in to the dealership in the morning. We'll see how honest they actually are. Now I know we are not the first this has ever happened to! thankfully only a little blood loss cleaning out the glass from the roof. Call it luck? the scare alone could give you a heart attack!.
I was driving my 2016 Acura Rdx down a local city road midday. There were no cars in the vicinity. While driving (about 35 mph), I suddenly and without warning heard a loud noise of glass shattering. There was no prior sound of any animal or object hitting the car. I turned around to see my rear driver side window had shattered in its entirety into the car. I stopped the car to assess the situation. I did not see any animal or rock/debris - just the glass shattered onto the rear passenger seat and floor.

The rear hatch unexpectedly closes and fails to reverse when encountering resistance, while it is stationary. I was bent over the rear bumper loading items when suddenly the rear hatch closed on top of me. I squeezed out and the hatch closed. The hatch also unexpectedly closed, hitting my wife in the head. On another occasion, the hatch unexpectedly closed when only the shopping cart was near the rear bumper. The local Acura service manager duplicated that the hatch will not reverse when encountering significant resistance. The service department stated that Acura does not have a fix for the problem. This vehicle in its current configuration is unsafe. Someone (I. E. A young child) is going to be injured when the hatch closes on them. Page 167 of the Acura Rdx owner's manual states that the hatch will reverse its course when encountering resistance.
I purchased the car in April and I never received my registration, and plates, they had never mentioned to me that the status of the car was salvage. I also wasn't informed they were out of business when I was in process of purchasing my car. Since I purchased the car the check engine light has always been on, and the back of the car is messed up.

Takata recall. The airbag deployed while my right hand was on the 2 o'clock position. I was going about 30 mph on a city street, and hit a car that stopped suddenly in front of me. It was like a bomb blast onto my wrist, forcefully blasting out acid and air or whatever's in that airbag. I have a trauma injury and chemical burns on my wrist. There are chemical burn holes all over the dashboard as well. At first I thought my beaded bracelet had punctured my wrist. One burn looked like a cigarette burn, and within 2 hours the burn hole skin turned pitch black. Other blisters formed as the hours went by. The next morning (thanksgiving) I went to urgent care and they referred me to the emergency room. They said it was chemical burn injuries, which I am now treating. It is extremely painful. I did file an insurance claim and there is a police report, but the accident was only 3 days ago. I declined medical attention at the time of the accident, as I thought it was only a simple bruise, and at that time didn't realize that the airbag vent was by my wrist, and that I had chemical injuries.
