Electrical System Problems of Acura RDX - part 2

On 4/3/2024 my windshield wiper motor died during a rainstorm. The car gave no warning lights and I get my vehicle serviced regularly. I have had ongoing electrical issues with this car such as a faulty radio and inability to run the gps settings. I took the car back to princeton Acura ( in new jersey) and was told the windshield wiper motor has to be replaced at it would cost me $ 600. 00. The car was also looked at by a mechanic from jifffy lube who said he was unable to order the windshield wiper motor due to the car being so new that after market parts are not available. I am extremely frustrated and feel this is unfair and also feel I was sold a lemmon. I bought the car new in 2020 and I am the only owner. I am hoping someone can help me. Thank you.

I was passing another vehicle around 45mph when I had a loss of power in acceleration. Acceleration was limp went down to 10mph engine light came on. I had to pull off road. Shut car off then restarted. Engine light went off. But acceleration is weak. Unable to maneuver away from an emergency situation if need to. Dangerous to drive it like this. I will take it to dealership but know they' never find any issues!.

My rear window has exploded twice in less than a year. American Honda is aware of this problem and has issued a service bulletin, 22-014. American Honda is refusing to pay my out of pocket expenses totalling $1,100. 00. There is a class action suit in CA against american Honda. In both situations my window exploded, parked, for no reason. This is also a safety issued with glass shattering with passengers in the back seat, or also while I am driving. The lawsuit said the defroster (rear) is defective. Please look at all the internet postings on this. To include facebook which has a group called "acrua shattered" first incident was 1/22/2024, and the last was on 12/27/2024. Please help us consumers.

Acuralink remote start did not work to start the car this morning or after work but when my wife got home from work the car started about a half hour later by itself in our attached garage with the door closed. It did this twice this evening and once at lunchtime. We will have to keep the car outside until this issue is resolved.

Infotainment system fails on occasions. Sceen goes completely blank causing distraction while driving. There is currently a recall for this issue for 2019-2020 Rdx.

The infotainment system on this vehicle keeps failing when using apple carplay. The problem consistently happens when driving. The problem consists of the apple carplay going black screen and disconnecting entirely and then taking long to reconnect. This is a safety issue if you’re using the gps navigation from ios while driving. The problem has been reported to the Acura service dealer multiple times and they were able to reproduce it as well. They have said there is an interruption caused by satellite communications interfering with carplay while driving. They said currently no fix for this issue.

Infotainment system fails while using android auto after receiving or making a phone call, which results in navigation via google maps unable to provide directions. The only manner in which I found temporarily resolves the issue, is restarting the infotainment system, which requires the vehicle to be stopped turned off and the driver’s door opened. This poses a grave safety risk while operating the vehicle, especially in heavy traffic conditions especially in inclement weather conditions, which I have unfortunately experienced on multiple occasions. On my second visit to the dealership I was advised by the service advisor at the dealership, that Honda is ‘aware of an uptick in reports with android auto and new phone models, and there is no fix identified, and any fix will most likely be with a software update. ’ I as also advised that as an alternate method of restoring the connection between the phone and the car is to turn off the WI-fi and bluetooth connections on the phone, then turn it back on, and once its turned back on, use the infotainment system to reconnect the phone. This advice is reckless at best as it requires me to move my attention from operating the vehicle to resolve this issue.

I was driving on the highway and it was raining. I tried to pass another car so I started to accelerate. But during my attempt to accelerate, my 2019 Acura Rdx would not respond to throttle response. So I slowly started to loose speed the car. The engine warning light started to flash and the car came to a stop on a dangerous road construction area with no medians. I had to turn on my hazards and wait on the road at night. I quickly turned off the engine and tried to turn the engine on again. When I turned the engine on it no error codes were shown and the check engine light was gone. I started to drive again and was able to get to a service road. After a while I decided to try to keep driving so I could get home and when I was merging into the highway, it happened again. The same situation, I was accelerating when my engine decided to stop accelerating and flash the check engine light (it didn’t stall but it wouldn’t respond to throttle response). I stopped on the side of the road and turned the engine off before turning it on again. Again the check engine light was not on, and the car acted like nothing happened. It seems like accelerating to higher speed in the rain is a huge safety issue….

Acura Rdx 2021. Faulty seat weight sensor front passenger seat. My wife is petite, [xxx] " and weighs [xxx]. When she sits in front passenger seat, at times, the seat weight sensor doesn't register that she's sitting in the seat and the air bag is not engaged. Intermittently, the srs light illuminates but many times it doesn't. I've taken the vehicle into the dealer (chevy chase Acura, bethesda, MD) and they say there is nothing they can do when the srs light is not on. I've brought the vehicle into the dealership several times. They say that parts are limited and not generally available and are expedited only when the srs light is illuminated. I've called and spoken with american Honda customer service and they refuse to help stating the same thing the dealer says. But this is definitely a safety issue. Nhsta recall # 24v-064. Service bulletin # 24-015. Please help. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

The keyless entry tpms controller in the car, part #38320-tx4-ao1 malfunctions, and the care does not turn itself off. The engine normally stops, but electrical systems continue operating and the car will drain its battery with a few hours. This is not an isolated occurance, while dealership personnel have not given firm #s, I beleive this may be effecting as high as 20% of the vehicles with this part. We have had a replacement part on back order since August 30th of 2023, today the dealship told me we are elevated to urgent backorder with not estimated fulfillment. On service tech told me the issue is that Acura suspended manufacture of the part as they try to solve this issue.

An electrical keyless part in the vehicle drains the battery causing it to stall wherever or whenever you are on the road. It has been confirmed by the dealer(courtesy Acura) that the vehicle needs a new part that they are unable to manufacture in a timely manner. It has been almost a year since the incident, and Honda is still not supporting a product that was faulty the day the car rolled off the assembly line. I was told by a representative of Honda that my car, 2015 Acura Rdx, is the only vehicle with that VIN number to have this problem, and I know that not to be true.

Vehicle began hesitating when starting, but not all of the time. One day after refueling it would not start. Lights on the dashboard flashed and flickered and the keyless start button made a clicking sound, but the vehicle would not start. Vehicle was towed to the nearest mechanic. The next morning the mechanic started the vehicle and found nothing wrong. Mechanic kept the vehicle for a couple days and the problem reoccurred. Vehicle will not start. Computer diagnostics shows the 2018 Acura Rdx control unit part number 38320-tx4-a31 is faulty. This part is backordered and likely will not be available in the near future. The intermittent starting failure poses a safety risk and could leave a driver stranded.

On 02/25/2023 our car abruptly stalled on us while driving without any warning in a remote area out of state over 3 hours away from our residence at night with temperatures below freezing with a minor in the car. We were lucky it happened on a back road and not on highway with hi velocity just an hour earlier because this would have killed us. The car came to a complete stall in the middle of the road, the red battery sign came on and the car would not start. We had a very poor cell phone reception, it took us over 3 hours to get a tow track, by the time the truck arrived we were shivering from cold. The car is impossible to put in neutral while in full stall that makes removing car from the road and towing near impossible. The car got towed to the nearest Acura repair center in PA. We were left with no car with a minor in the middle of the night in the cold out of state with very limited financial resources. As of now the car is still at the repair shop in PA, we are back in maryland without any vehicle. The repair shop told us that there is no fuel pressure and it is likely fuel pump failure, that has already been reported and recalled on other Acura Rdx 2019, but for some reason is not associated with our VIN. This is a major safety concern with a faulty part on a 4 years old car that could have potentially killed us and now is putting unimaginable financial, logistical and emotional hardship on us being left without a vehicle out of state and absolutely no timeline on when this very costly repair will be done due to unavailability of the part. Please issue a recall on this VIN ASAP before somebody will get hurt. It seems to be problem with many Acura Rdx 2019 cars and is calling for much larger recalls then previously issued NHTSA recalls: 21v-215 fam 2019-20 Rdx fuel pump motor safety recall expansion and 20v-314 s7d2019 /rdx fuel pump motor safety recall. This same exact fuel pump failure is reported all over the internet in forums and Rdx 2019 reviews.

Once again, 3 weeks after the first time it happened, my 2019 Acura Rdx lost all power and I had to drift to the side of the road. This occurred on the baldwin beach express and luckily there is not a lot of traffic this time of year so I could get on the shoulder. Car would not restart, all lights around the speedometer had come on. I had to have it towed to the Acura dealership in mobile where it was towed the first time when this happened. At that time the told me they could not duplicate the problem. Three weeks later it has happened again . The tow truck driver tried to start the car and said " you're not getting any fuel" and asked if the fuel pump had been checked. Supposedly it has been replaced when it was first recalled. Could it be another faulty fuel pump? my question. . . . How dangerous would this be if this happened in the I-10 mobile tunnel?????? the first time it happened I tried to call Acura but the complaint department is not open on sundays. This time it happened on a Friday and I was able to file my complaint. Will I get a response to this event now that it has happened a second time?.

The vehicles adaptive cruise control is unreliable. Guidance system goes haywire and cannot stay on track to destination. Carplay becomes inoperable. Have had tameron eastern shore Honda who sold car to me check problem on multiple occasions and they cannot find problem.

While driving on interstate 65 headed towards mobile, al. My 2019 Acura Rdx lost all power. Every light surrounding the speedometer was lighted. No power, nothing. . Was able to coast from the right hand lane to the shoulder of the interstate. . No power steering and I was moving slower and slower because I was on a hill. Frightening to say the least. If I had been in the left hand lane I’m not sure I could have made it to the shoulder. And if a truck had been behind me an unable to change lanes I would have been smashed. Car towed to dealership.

Part - control unit, Smart power - Acura 38320-tx4-a31 has been diagnosed as defective causing major electrical issues. Dealer says it affects the safety features of the car yet they can't get a replacment part. Afraid to allow my wife to drive not knowing if the safety features we paid for actually work. Air bags? electrical breakdown during operation? a simple search finds it is a common problem with Acura and hondas of this time period.

Since we have had the car we have had multiple issues with the car jerking and shifting hard after driving in s mode then going to standard mode. Dealership told us the transmission is "sensitive" in our model year and if we go 1 mile overdue for a transmission fluid flush we will have shudder/jerking/ hard shifting. (we have changed the transmission fluid 1-2x since have had the car, which is within range of recommended). Last episode- battery was dead, jumpstarted and car jerking at low speeds to the point I did not drive it and had it told. We were also told their was a short in the circuit board that controlled Acuralink and what charged the battery. Jerking transmission related per dealership. Lastly the sound for the blind spot monitoring is intermittently not working.

On November 26, 2022 Rdx rear glass shattered while parked. This was reported to Acura to find out if this is a known defect. Acura replied that they don’t have a recall on this problem. Coincidentally, few days after glass was replaced (insurance) the remote start failed due to “open trunk, doors or hood”. Acura dealer replace defective trunk switch. On a few other occasion the infotainment screen will go blank and then turned on and stay on while vehicle is off. Battery died several times while this happened. Last occasion was Jan 15, 2023. Again, Acura was called and didn’t have a recall/repair solution. Battery was disconnected and screen resumed operation!.

Headlights (low beam) have become dim, unsafe, difficult to see when driving, reflector is defective.

I have a 2021 Rdx. Was on the interstate moving at about 70 mph coming back from missouri. Raining. Lots of semis creating huge following misty, hard to see rain. Decided to accelerate to pass a couple. Car nearly stalled and acted like it had lost a cylinder's worth of power. Turned on hazards, slowed, pulled over and lifted the hood hearing all kinds of unusual noises. Shut the car off and restarted. All was well. Turned all lane-keeping, etc. Off including cruise. Drove the last 100 miles or so without incident. Called dealer and was told likely didn't pull a code. Don't worry and keep driving. Said to make sure front of car was clean. Duh!! I keep my ride spotless (unless driving in the rain). Called CA's Acura line. Absolutely no help. 2 different females had no idea what limp mode was. Read quite a bit since then finding out it could be the result of many things including problems that could damage the motor and/or tranny. Wow!!! had never heard of "limp mode" before. Nice that no info on this possible problem was anywhere in any user manual. Car has performed flawlessly ever since. So far, I guess the rain had interfered with the "radar" system and confused the computer. I'm thinking about buying a 40 year old car that doesn't have any of the modern computers etc. Later found info regarding TSB 20-053 which explains the problem and proposed solution. 06-26-2022 06:52 pm.

Keyless entry system failed at under 50k miles. When this keyless access unit fails, you cannot start the car and the powertrain. The only way to resolve is to have the car towed to the dealership and have the part orders and installed at over $800. In a worst case scenario, the driver could be stranded in unsafe conditions -- weather extremes (heat or cold) or parking at the side of the freeway unable to restart the car. I believe this is a huge safety issue and too common for this model Acura. This is clearly a critical system component that has failed far before it should. There is no way to turn the vehicle on as this is a keyless entry vehicle.

Ofttimes when parking the car does not fully shut off because the accessory mode fails to shut off. I have to restart the car and put it in gear go forward or backward attempting to shut off everything several times before the car fully shuts off. I have had to purchase a new battery because the car failed to shut off when parked by an attendant. Sometimes it will take me at least six (6) attempts before the car finally shuts off. Thanks!.

I've had the vehicle since around 44 k , purchase and shortly months later technology lighting a battery issues, someone started hacking me saying they were a car warranty services , harassment in cybersecurity daily I've had over 6-8 electrical light replacements, 2-3 battery replacements, 3 alternator replacements, hacking is daily asking me to pay brides of 1000. 00 which I have never participated in, someone talks the entire time stating they are getting my information, hacked my plates, tries to control the vehicle and using cyber security. Department of justice suggested to go to Acura dealer for cyber ecu reset , inquired car about the car someone hacked the car saying they are trying to steal social security benefits, and preventing employment and want to impact finances. Car was hacked and shut down had triple aaa come out to look at the vehicle which was not working was informed it was the communicator of the body throttle but would need to have dealer process and program because of computer communication to release and preform gas pedal and power train. Picture video proving the noise and item car unable to lock some one broke into the vehicle and impacted the timing belt and etc. I have documents to support but want to be cautious of hackers and would be willing to share directly for safety pre-cautions.

On Friday may 10, 2022, as I was merging from a local road to the highway, I tried to accelerate to complete a safe merge however, the car stated loosing power and jerking, I had to floor the accelerator to get the power needed to avoid a collision with the vehicle behind me. About 1 mile later, the care started loosing power again and cut out. I restarted and continued driving, a few yards later, the car jerked and all the warning lights came on. Given the serious safety issue and the fact that I happened to be near the an Acura dealership, I slowly drove to that dealership. Since it was close to the end of the business day on a Friday, I knew that I'd have to wait until the next day or week to get a report on the problem. I previously filed two complaints on June 19, 2019 and July 28, 2019, on this same issue. I spoke with a representative of Honda several times and they assured my that the problem was fixed after the dealer kept this car for several weeks to work on it. At this juncture, given that this is an issue that could cause serious harm, I am ready to sell this car. Honda needs to fix this.

Upon rapid acceleration, pushing the gas pedal down, the engine light started blinking and the car went into limp mode losing all power. This was a serious concern because we had just got off the interstate and if we had been full speed attempting to pass a vehicle, we could have been in a serious accident due to failure of power.

The car kept stalling while I was trying to accelerate on the highway. I pulled over and turned it off and the problem resolved itself.

Was driving on the interstate with slight rain and trying to accelerate but then the check engine light started flashing and the car would not accelerate. Speed on the interstate is 70mph, but the car immediately dropped down to 35mph. Traffic behind me had to slow down to avoid an accident as I had to move the car to the side of the road. Restarted the car and the check engine light disappeared.

(1) passenger airbag periodically turns off when seat is occupied. This surfaces major safety concerns. (2) technology package - apple car play turns black and disconnects often. As someone working from their car, this needs to stay connected in order to avoid safety concerns of needing to look down at my phone.

On 2/3/22, after only 12 hours of owning the vehicle, I merged onto 287 south and upon speeding up and merging into the center lane, I lost all acceleration and my dash lit up like a christmas tree. An 18 wheeler was coming behind me in the middle lane at 65 mph while my car slowed down to 25 mph. I was thankfully able to get over to the side of the road without being hurt or even killed. Upon bringing it into the dealer, the codes showed that it was a bad engine coil and spark plug. This was repaired under warranty. Fast forward to 5/16/22, I exited the highway, came to a complete stop at a red light. Upon the light turning green, I went to accelerate and limp mode activated again. I have video of the incident and dealership is unable to find any issues with the vehicle. Both times it was either raining or had just stopped. I have asked that the intercooler be replaced as part of bulletin 20-053 however the dealership states my vehicle is not part of this bulletin although it lists the model and year. This is a serious problem that requires a recall. I hope Acura is not waiting for someone to get hurt before they take action!.

The diminished light output of the low beam headlights began to diminish visibility so significantly that it was reported to the dealer at 89,000 miles, in March 2020. The dealer response was "normal operation of the headlights compared to other Rdx. " the driver's visibility is now decreased to the point the visibility is like only the lo output driving lights are on. Hi beams have to be used when driving at night. This reduced output decreased driver's visibility and increases the risk of a crash. Improper usage of high beams impacts oncoming vehicles, increasing the risk of a head on collision. I was driving on the pennsylvania and ohio turnpike last night for 5 hours in the rain and had to reduce speeds and drive with high beams on, causing a dangerous situation for myself and other drivers. I called Acura customer service and they indicated no recalls and no TSB. I referenced NHTSA recall 14v323000 for Acura ilx, same issue, and they said NHTSA has not issued recalls on the 2014 Rdx. Many driver threads report same issue.

Hi, I have a 2020 Acura Rdx, and it haves a popping and cracking sound on the speaker even wend the radio is of. And it have being check buy the dealer bella International in puerto rico, and they say they cant fix it, to keep using it like that and that’s not an answer to my problem, know they are not answering the phone, the unit is still on warranty, please what can I do? thanks.

11/6/mid way home from a trip from washington to connecticut on the new jersey turnpike in the left-hand lane the car lost all ability to accelerate. Concurrently the engine like came on and multiple warning signals came on regarding traction control, breaking, and steering. One can imagine how unsettling that could be but at that moment. Being in the left lane it was apparent I needed to get off the road. With cars traveling at 65+ mph and my car decelerating continuously changing lanes was nearly catastrophic and the last lane I needed to move over to nearly resulted in a multi car accident 11/8/2021 I was contacted by the service manager at the towed to Acura dealer. They informed me that the evaluation determined a need for an “intercooler" this breakdown of my car with less than 20,000 miles on it was under warranty . More importantly, my understanding of this problem is that the car is engineered to power down under these circumstances to protect the engine and or transmission. I would have imagined that when a warning like comes on it would not result in an instantaneous power down action. Put quite simply it appears the car was more interested in protecting itself than the occupants. This is egregious. Acura has failed to address my concern or help now about 1 month out.

Unfortunately, I am writing to report a dangerous situation that occurred while I was driving on November 3rd, 2021. This involved a safety issue that could have resulted in serious injury to me and other drivers on the road. As I was traveling on a very busy street in miami, FL at a speed of 45 mph, my steering wheel suddenly became very heavy and hard to turn which made me have no control over my vehicle. I eventually pulled to the side of the road almost hitting not only the car in front of me but a pedestrian on the sidewalk. I did not understand what was going on as I have never encountered this situation in my life. I then could not move my vehicle because my steering wheel was heavy, and then there were a lot of flashing indicator lights like “check power steering” and other codes. As I sat there, a bit in shock, I tried to move the steering wheel, but it would not move at all, so I had to have the vehicle towed because it was unsafe to drive. As I started to research what had happened to my vehicle, there were several reported cases the same issues with the electronic power steering (eps) control unit failing while driving. There were several detailed customer complaints on Acura customer owners’ forums. In addition, I found several reported cases on Acura service bulletins, one of which was the service bulletin 19-021. This has been a frustrating and nerve wrecking experience. I maintain my vehicle by following the service/maintenance manual and have been a proactive vehicle owner by investing in the upkeep. However, this does not seem to fall within the purview of what I have ever experienced in the past and concerns me that my safety was jeopardized, so that is why I am reaching out to your organization.

After getting my tires rotated, the check emission sensor, check transmission light, and check blind spot system all came on at once and my transmission began jerking.
