Service Brakes Problems of Acura RDX - part 2

All software systems failed, disabling the vehicle. Error messages included failure in braking, steering, and other vital systems. Acura roadside assistance determined that the car had to be towed to the nearest dealer. The dealer confirmed the issue was a "dtc p061b pcm internal malfunction" and performed a "pgm-fi software update to correct the issue. " the vehicle was completely disabled, and we were 4 1/2 hours from the nearest dealership. There were no warnings or communications prior to the incident.

Brakes are squeaking very bad.

The brake pedal in my car was soft. Pressed it and did not stop the car until its almost to the floor. Called Acura and they told me there was a TSB as other have had this problem Honda TSB 19-022. The car needed to be reprogramed and fixed the issue. They charged 87. 78 for the reprograming. I filled a complaint with Honda to get reimbursed case number 12954925. This is a saftey issue and should become a recall before it kills people with the brakes not responding. The rep at Honda said thats its a maintenance issue.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned? car automatically applied brakes on several occasions, despite no obstacles in front of the car. Incident 1: while driving through an 3-way intersection, the car slammed on the brakes automatically. There was a van in the opposite lane waiting to turn left. There was 2-3 feet of space so there was no risk of collision, but the car slammed on the brakes causing me to come to a sudden stop in the middle of the intersection. Incident 2: I was changing lanes to go past a stopped car in the left lane (it was waiting to make a left turn) the car automatically applied brakes, even though I would not have hit the car. Cars behind me had to slam on their brakes to avoid rear-ending my stopped car. Incident 3: while driving on a freeway at 65 mph with light traffic and no cars in front for at least 1000 ft the car flashed the automatic brake warning. It did not actually apply the brakes, but could have caused an accident considering the speed. Incident 4: while driving on a 2-lane road with cars parked on the sides of the road, the car displayed an automatic brake warning despite no collision being imminent. Incident 5: while driving down a suburban street with no trees or obstacles in sight, the automatic brake warning flashed. How was safety put at risk? sudden stopping in a road, highway, or intersection could cause an accident. I am concerned for my safety, because if the car stops unexpectedly in the middle of the road, other cars may hit me. This is the same system used in some hondas, so a recall of Honda vehicles may need to be extended to Acura vehicles. Has the problem been confirmed by dealer? yes. The service advisor told me that his car has the same problem, but that it is normal and there is nothing they can do about it. Were there any warnings? usually happens when there is a radar reflective object above or off to the side of the path of travel. The brake warning appears when automatic braking is applied.

I own the Acura Rdx 2022 and from the very first week the front left brakes were making a rough contact noise when braking. I took to two different dealership and they said the grooves should wear and it may take sometime. I am at 3000 miles and still the same noise. Other brakes function properly. Also, now the weather dropping to 20 f the same front brakes makes a loud grinding / gurgling noise and goes away after warmed up. No TSB, no recalls and no solution. Dealer will not change the brake pads / rotor to see if that fixes the issue.

Brand new with 4000 miles. It went limp, stalled and went to neutral while driving, had to stop by the side of the road and restart to reset. And it went limp on highway at 70 mph, continue to decelerate rapidly and did not respond to gas and went limp, engine did not rev up with any amount of gas. It only responded when I set the cruise and hand accelerate that way. Dangerous and scared to drive it.

While using the cruise control, vehicle will automatically slam on the brakes without reason. This typically occurs on highway where vehicle will automatically brake reducing speed dramatically. Vehicle will go from 70mph to 55 mph in a few seconds causing the vehicles behind to have to brake fast to avoid collision. Acura has worked on vehicle 4 times and claims they cannot fix the system. I was told to hold my foot over the accelerator to increase speed when this happens. They also told me that they are very aware of this problem but offered no correction for this unsafe condition. It has happened at least 100 times. Vehicle is 4 years old with 7,000 miles.

Issue with break hold feature. When brake hold button is on car will keep the brake on even when driver releases the petal. In addition the vehicle is defaulted so the engine automatically will shut off when brake petal is pressed all the way down. But often when the hvac system needs to run it will start the engine while stopped. When this happens the auto brake releases and car starts moving forward. This has happened many times. Vehicle is stationary, brake hold is on, engine auto off is on and sitting at a traffic light. Engine is off but car is turned on. Ac starts which makes engine start, engine starting causes brake to release. The vehicle moves forward. It could crash into another car or run someone over. It happens a lot. Do I need to report each time it happens?.

The front and/or rear brakes make a high-pitched squeal when lightly applied at 15 mph or less. My VIN didn't make it on the published list below, but I am experiencing the same issues. Purchased brand new. At 100 miles brakes make noise and I can feel abrasive rubbing/grinding. At wet conditions, noise significantly increase and generate vibrations when applying brakes. Dealership replace both front brakes and rotors only to have to the symptom re-occurrence about 20 miles later. Submitted complaint to Acura client relations and was told it is common issue with Honda brakes and there is no fix for the problem.

Purchased brand new. At two thousand miles the brakes are scrubbing and grinding. Took it back to dealer and they've then informed us it is an issue with this model. At 4 thousand miles they are making the same noise. Now we are told it will do no good to replace them. Is my vehicle safe to drive?.

The contact owns a 2020 Acura Rdx. The contact stated that while driving on several occasions at various speeds, the brakes unintendedly activated. Additionally, the contact observed an orange warning light which stated “brakes” illuminated and then went off. The vehicle was taken to a dealer twice however, the dealer was unable to be replicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.

I was driving on the highway and the car slamed on its brakes by itself to a complete stop nothing was in front of me and almost got hit from behind. I called dealership said was a known issue with no fix at this time.

Have had a second occurrence of a brake problem which Acura has acknowledge but will not provide a fix date. Only told that it is a known problem but engineers ay it is not a danger. But won't put it in writing so don't believe that it is not unsafe. I need to alert gov safety dept. In event is is unsafe & someone is hurt.

Sudden loss of power while passing on highway followed by numerous system error lights.

Rdx fwd with 1300 miles. Noticed clicking and grounding metal noise while applying brakes. After researching information provided on line this is ongoing problem with Rdx's that Acura is allegedly working on the problem . I am afraid this is serious brakes safety issue . It's a on going problem when driving and applying brakes.

When using auto brake hold when stopped in traffic and if engine auto start stop is engaged, if the auto start stop turns the engine back on there are times when the auto brake hold releases by itself and car starts moving forward. This could be a safety issue in case there is a pedestrian in the cross walk or if the driver does not hit the brake pedal immediately could hit the vehicle in front. Vehicle has a high pitch squeal from both the front brakes at low speed.

We have a 2-month old 2020 Acura Rdx. We purchased the car on October 21st, 2019. It has approximately 1,500 miles on it at this time. We were traveling southbound at approximately 45 miles per hour. We were on a 4-lane road. As we approached a railroad crossing, our car came to an abrupt and forceful halt in the middle of the street. The railroad tracks are not rough and we had not applied the brakes at all. The lights were not flashing and there are no gates at this railroad crossing. We were shocked as this was completely unexpected. We are worried that should this happen when we're driving in snow or rain, we may lose control of the vehicle. Also, if this should happen when we're being followed by another car, it will certainly result in an accident. We have photographic evidence and also a dash-camera video of the incident available upon request.

Brakes defective. New 2020 Acura Rdx at approx 1100 mi brakes started loudly grinding/squealing during stopping. Took in for service and was advised it was a known issue with 2020 Rdxs and they would perform a 2019 tech bulletin fix. Auto was fine for 2 months and started again at 2100 mi. Returned to dealer and was told they were aware of issue and there was no fix but it wasn't a safety issue. They would call if Acura ever determined the problem and a fix. Car now only has 2400 mi because we are afraid to take on a highway going over 40 mph because of safety. Car was sold brand new with a known brake defect. Claim was filed directly with Acura and they advised they don't have a fix but engineers are working on it. This is unacceptable because we have a $49,000 car sitting in the driveway because we are afraid to drive it further than a few miles. Acura did not tell us what the problem is because we don't think they know or they would be able to have a fix.

I reported an issue with my 2019 Acura Rdx, where engine auto stop is enabled, and brake hold is enabled. On two occasions, the vehicle lurched forward while the brake hold is enabled this propelled me to the side of the intersection today, with a 2020 loaner, it happened again.

Tl the contact owns a 2020 Acura Rdx. The contact stated that after the vehicle was parked for awhile, the brakes would squeak when the brake pedal was depressed. The failure occurred the day after the vehicle was purchased. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was informed that the failure could have been caused by the contact driving in a wet environment. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer due to the sounds coming from the rotors. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact recorded the squeaking sound and played it for the dealer to hear. Since the dealer could not duplicate the noise, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was called and directed the contact back to the dealer. The failure mileage was 780.

Typically only in cold months, brakes squeal extremely loudly and feel like they are grabbing, especially if downhill (and it can be at low speeds and minor declines). The occurrence happened within 2-3 weeks of purchase and was reported to dealer. Dealer found no evidence of issues. Told to report to client services and was told working on solution. Now told dealer will need to resolve if there's issues. Issue occurs at any rate of speed and dissipates, for most part, after driving awhile but will return within 30 minutes of car-being turned off.

Brakes make a continuous high pitch squeal noise when engaged for approximately 2 miles every time I start driving my car regardless of weather. Sterling Acura replaced the brakes and rotors but the issue remained. Honda says they are aware of the issue but do not know what is causing it. They reassured me this is not a safety issue while telling me they do not know what is causing it or how to fix it. I feel unsafe driving my brand new 2020 Acura Rdx aspec.

Vehicle would not change gears, stuck in first gear going over 50 mph on the highway.

From March 2019 to present: when driving at speeds above 55mph, the vehicle slams on it's brakes automatically and comes to a complete stop. I then have to put the Rdx in park, then back into drive before I can accelerate again. This happens when no other cars are around the front of the vehicle. This has happened a total of 10 times. A couple of the times it has happened, other cars have had to swerve around me to miss rear ending me. There is no warning lights or noises before the car slams on the brakes. I have previously had pain from the seat belt locking up so quickly in my shoulder and chest areas. This has been reported to both Acura corporate, Acura customer service, white bear lake Acura, and jay wolff Acura. This has been in the shop a total of 5 different times within 2 different states with each time the service department saying "couldn't duplicate the issue". This vehicle will injure someone if this issue continues. The infomative screen is also solid black and has not worked for the past 38 days. The radio, navigation, back up cameras, etc does not work. The dealerships are also not able to fix this after 5 times in the shop.

My 2019 Rdx awd twice now under 4600 miles had steering lock up while traveling on a busy highway. Collision brake mitgation system warning started flashing on display and lost control of steering the car! lucky both times that I was able to pull off road out of traffic!! dealer could not find anything wrong the first time and said no recalls or incidents reported. Happened today again 7-13-29 and having car towed back to dealer.

The brakes squeak loudly all the time when I come to a stop or apply pressure. I have been to the dealership 3 times and had them replaced also called Acura corporate. Its a known problem that they are looking into but I don't feel safe in this vehicle anymore. I feel like my life is in danger everyday driving this car. Purchased at Acura of seattle.

2019 new Rdx! the car brakes sound horrible everyday! I have been promised over 9 months its being worked on. I've had them changed 3 time by the dealer and still squeaks every time I stop. I'm fearing for my safety because they cannot fix the problem and I feel they will fail soon. It's a very well known problem if you google 2019 and 2020 Rdx brake problems they gave me a $300 visa card for my inconvenience!!! I don't know who to turn to anymore because the company doesn't care to fix this 2 year old model's problem.

Squeaking and shaking brakes since car was purchased. Has been to dealer 3 times. Acura says this is a known issue on all 2019 Rdxs yet has not provided a fix. This is unsafe and needs recalled.

While driving with the lane departure system on and cruise control on, the vehicle would unexpectedly brake for no reason. This happened several times. With lane departure system on and cruise control off, the vehicle would occasionally give a "brake now" warning for no reason. Dealer claims that the issue has been corrected but it is unknown if this is correct.

A westbound distracted driver swerved into my lane at a high rate of speed and my automatic braking system slowed me to the point that I could not get out of the way of the oncoming vehicle causing my vehicle to roll over following impact (see attached hsmv crash report number 87263383).

There is a constant squealing while braking from the front brakes at all outside temperatures.

Brakes have squeaked esp in the mornings within the first 5-10 min of driving the car ever since I purchased in oct 2018. This is a known problem without any fixes as per previous complaints. Noticed that brakes feel as if something is loose when you apply deep pressure. I have also noticed an interior cabin clicking or rattling type noise when braking as if something is loose in the cabin.
