Failure Date: 08/14/2020

The vehicle stalls out (limp mode) when accelerating past 60 mph. It will not go above 3000 rpms. Once that happens, it is difficult to accelerate at all, even at very low speeds. I can press the pedal to the floor and nothing happens. The vehicle shakes considerably when idle.

38 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2020 Acura RDX

Failure Date: 07/30/2020

While driving at a consistent rate of speed on a 65 mph highway the vehicle suddenly and without warning lost engine power. The vehicle began to rapidly drop speed and the check engine light would blink when the accelerator was depressed. I was forced to abandon the highway and pull over onto the shoulder - not in an emergency lane - in between north and south bound traffic because the vehicle would not accelerate over 20 mph or exceed 2,000 rpms. After 3 hours of waiting in this dangerous location Acura roadside assistance was unable to locate a tow truck. I turned the vehicle off and back on and noticed the check engine light ceased blinking. I then proceeded to return home and the problem returned a second time, this time accompanied with numerous indicator lights (e. G. , awd problem, abs problem, etc). The vehicle was towed to pohanka Acura in chantilly, virginia. I was told the first time they cleared the codes they returned, but after a second time they did not. They were not able to replicate the problem, did not fix anything, and said it was caused by fuel choice. This is significant problem and safety risk known to Acura. There is a patent history of Acura choosing to not identify the root cause, associate this anomaly with fuel choice, and return the vehicle to the owner. In my opinion this is a negligent business practice and Acura should be responsible for any injuries or damages associated with these unexpected, unannounced "limp mode" events.

39 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2019 Acura RDX

Failure Date: 07/24/2020

1. Twice while driving, warning lights flash "approaching object" when there is nothing around the vehicle, speed about 20mph, empty, rural road, no bad weather, 8am in the morning. 2. When trying to start the vehicle, the entire car shuddered and would not turn over. Re-tried and the car started. Car was stationary in a garage. 3. While driving about 60 mph, hwy 29 north in danville, va, the entire car shuddered for 2-3 seconds losing power. The vehicle didn't shutoff and I was able to resume safe driving. No inclement weather at the time. 4. While at a stop light in virginia, the vehicle lurched forward (accelerated on it's own) when I took my foot off the gas pedal and I had to slam on brakes. I was able to resume safe operation afterwards. No inclement weather. Normal busy traffic in northern va. Refer to repair order # 6138673, 7/31/2020, chevy chase Acura, bethesda, MD for additional info.

40 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2013 Acura RDX

Failure Date: 06/08/2020

On Monday, June 8, 2020 I was driving my 2013 Acura Rdx and experienced an issue with the power train. I came to a red light on a town street in middlebury, vt and let the car naturally decelerate. As I approached the car ahead of me, my Rdx very suddenly surged forward and accelerated. It accelerated very noticeably. Fortunately, I braked and swerved in time so as to not rear-end the vehicle ahead of me. This is the 3rd time that my car has done this. However, this is the first time that I was nearly in and just avoided a collision. I love my car. However, I am frightened that I may injure myself, a passenger or even worse, another driver or pedestrian. Alittle vehicle history . . . I bought the car from an Acura dealer in south burlington, vt only 4 months ago in February 2020. The vehicle had 65 thousand miles on it at the time of purchase. In the nearly 4 months that I have had the vehicle, I have put 3 thousand miles on the Rdx. Presently, the Acura has 68 thousand miles on it. I called the dealership's service manager ray. Ray indicated that the transmission fluid -- or at least 3 or 4 quarts of the 8 to 10 quarts in the transmission -- should be changed. I scheduled the earliest appointment for tomorrow, Thursday, June 11, 2020. I am 59 years old and have owned a total of 9 vehicles during my lifetime. I have never, ever experienced a car surging forward and accelerating on its own. I do not know whether or not this is normal or acceptable, but I am hopeful that ray's proposed solution of replacing transmission fluid will solve this issue.

41 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2019 Acura RDX

Failure Date: 01/18/2020

While driving my 2019 Acura Rdx I attempted to pass a slower moving vehicle. During acceleration my engine light started flashing and simultaneously the vehicle lost all power to the engine. This prevented me from passing and forced me to fall back in behind the vehicle I was passing. This was extremely dangerous and could have had catastrophic results if another vehicle was approaching. After falling back in behind the vehicle I pulled off onto the shoulder. I turned off the vehicle and waited about 2 minutes and upon turning it back on; it was back to normal. I paid nearly $50,000. To have a safe and reliable vehicle. This vehicle is so unsafe to drive with this issue it basically sits in the garage. Contacting Acura dealers / service departments they know about this but are waiting for the company Acura to come up with a solution. This vehicle is not safe and my life and family's life were put into jeopardy. Acura doesn't have the right to put their customers lives in jeopardy. They need to fix this issue or allow their customers to return this defected vehicle immediately.

42 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2019 Acura RDX

Failure Date: 01/03/2020

My brand new 2019 Acura Rdx that had 9200 miles on it shut down on me on the freeway. It was raining and I pulled out to pass, going about 75 mph, and it went into what I now know is limp mode and the engine light flashed on and off and the engine was making a different sound than normal. I had someone tailgating me, so I am lucky it didnt cause an accident. Got pulled over and called the dealership and they said it needed to come in. They speculate raindrops got on the engine filter (forget the name) and the car thought it was malfunctioning and shut down. I hadnt turned the car off because I was afraid id be stranded, so I dont know if it would have reset itself. Still, I bought this car for dependability and ive lost all trust. I had had three Acura cars before this. Ive been told theres no fix and engineers are working on it but they couldnt recreate the situation and its working okay now. This is a safety issue. I could have been on a two-lane passing and couldnt get back in when it shut down before an oncoming car! so I cant drive it in the rain or pass now? the dealership had one other Rdx do the same thing and im reading several online. I feel like its russian roulette. Do I just have a lemon or is it a design flaw? im scared! the car is still at the dealership, but there's nothing that can be done because everything checks out. They don't honestly know what to do, so the possibility of being stranded or missing a flight or being injured or killed is not off the table! they know they have a problem but not making it public knowledge. It's a brand new design so there must be a flaw.

43 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2019 Acura RDX

Failure Date: 01/02/2020

Driving vehicle est 40mph, straight road city right lane. Car ahead of me (est 2 + car length) turned right, and was no longer on the road I was driving, my vehicle slowed down. I did not press brakes or change drive to neutral. There was no input from me to change vehicle speed. "space reserved" bars use radar to keep designated space. There were no bars for a safety margin. No lights or indicators display on dashboard for reason of deceleration. Normally if I am close to a person who is turning off the road, sensors may detect than and flash brake brake on the dashboard. This same braking when a person turned has occurred when I was in the left lane city road westbound . That vehicle was approaching me, a 4 lane wide street. I was on the left lane of my divide, the other vehicle was in the right line of their divide eastbound. That opposite vehicle was turning right, my car slowed down although the other car was twice as far away compared to the right-turn complaint above. No input from me, no dashboard warnings, too far away to be considered a safety issue. Another occurrence: was driving straight, est 20mph city road. . Came towards a small dip in the road, est 3' wide, shallow. No vehicles on road. Car slowed down, no indications. I stepped on the gas, no response. Pressed drive button, no response. After getting over the dip, I pulled to the side of the road. Turned car off and restarted, drove correctly after that. Used same road to come back, car handled dip in road appropriately. Summertime drive. Separate issue: brakes are squealing when I drive car at low speeds. City roads, varied speed limits; 25mph to 40mph. Reversing out of parking, press brakes, squeal. Drive to stop sign, squeal. Drive from that stop sign in straight line, city road, come to stop sign, does not squeal. Environments are different; using vehicle in -15f temp up to 85, 90f.

45 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2020 Acura RDX

Failure Date: 11/23/2019

From the day I took delivery of my 2020 Rdx advance in August, I've been completely crazy about it. Now, however, I'm feeling sad and disillusioned, but more importantly, I don't feel 100% safe driving it. Recently, after spending a few weeks in georgia, we were driving back home to northern virginia on I-85n in north carolina. It was and had been raining steadily the entire trip. There was moderate/heavy traffic moving at speeds between 60-75/80 mph. Somewhere just south of charlotte, the car suddenly started slowing down, even though I was pressing the accelerator! it was barely moving in the middle of traffic. The check engine light was blinking and the engine was rattling and sputtering. I immediately turned on the hazards and started crossing the two far right lanes to get over to the narrow shoulder. Terrifying. Fortunately, we were only about a 1/4 mile from an exit. We slowly made it on the shoulder to one of gas stations there. After checking the support section in the app and calling a tech at my home dealership, I shut the car off and let it sit for about 15 minutes. It started and we were able to finish the trip without further incident. We made it home safely, but the remaining six hours of the trip were mentally excruciating. We drove as slowly as safely possible in the right lane. I couldn't get it out of my head that it could happen again at any moment. And, I can't say it hasn't crossed my mind that I won't be able to get over that extended feeling of uncertainty while driving it. At least, not for now. I took it to the dealer on 11/25/19. They said they could not duplicate the issue, and that there were neither error nor fault codes stored. I had been hoping they would give me some explanation and reassurance that everything is fine. I wanted to feel 100% that the car is still safe to drive, but I'm not feeling that now.

46 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2019 Acura RDX

Failure Date: 07/31/2019

After a hard stop at a stoplight, when attempting to accelerate the car would not accerlate even when pushing hard and pumping on the gas pedal. Could hear the engine reving but would not go over 20 mph. Took it to the dealer the next day and they could find nothing wrong. Happened a 2nd time when attempting to pass a car. In that instance I recall speeding up to pass the car and once in front if it had to step on the brake due to a pending stop light. When attempting to accelerate again the car would not accelerate. Could hear the engine reving up, but the car would not go over 20 mph.

47 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2019 Acura RDX

Failure Date: 07/11/2019

I just bought a new 2019 Rdx aspec last Friday, and it only has about 500 miles on it. I was driving home tonight and went about 60mph to pass a car and my car completely lost power. I tried pressing the accelerator and I had absolutely no response. My check engine light started flashing. Fortunately, there was a police officer who was able to guide me to the shoulder. I restarted the car and the engine light was gone and I was able to drive off. However, the car still does not seem to have a full throttle response and the rpm is staying at about 3500 in normal mode. The auto-disable engine feature is also not working anymore. It had rained earlier in the day but it was not raining at this point but the roads were wet. I had been driving for about 30 minutes continuously before this at about 60mph.

48 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2019 Acura RDX

Failure Date: 05/27/2019

Twice now under 5400 miles, while depressing gas peddle to pass on an interstate at around 70 mph, the car totally loses power and engine light comes on leaving us in a very unsafe position in the fast lane of travel. We barely avoided collisions making it to the shoulder. After restarting the car, the engine light is off and car appears to operated normally again. Acura could not find any codes in cpu and told us to bring it back if happens again. Opened a ticket on Acura's web site - no reply for nearly a week now.

49 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2018 Acura RDX

Failure Date: 01/22/2019

A westbound distracted driver swerved into my lane at a high rate of speed and my automatic braking system slowed me to the point that I could not get out of the way of the oncoming vehicle causing my vehicle to roll over following impact (see attached hsmv crash report number 87263383).

50 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2018 Acura RDX

Failure Date: 07/16/2018

I was pulling in to a parking space at work, mildly stepped on gas as I pulled in and placed foot on brake to stop car when I park but the car accelerated on its own, tires screeched and car went over curb and almost ran into tree. See picture attached. I slammed on the brakes and the car stopped. The sound from the inside seemed I damaged my bumper for sure but when I inspected, no damage to the car (at lease visibly). But sure is scary to drive the car now. I leased the car about a month ago and I contacted the dealer via phone and on email awaiting response.

54 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2017 Acura RDX

Failure Date: 06/19/2017

9,249 miles on a 2017 Acura Rdx. Check engine light came on while in motion on a highway at approximately 65 mph with notable loss of power (once stopped it took a full 30 seconds to get to 15 mph). Let car sit for 2 hours as manual stated. Once restarted and driven for approximately 20 feet all lights on dashboard where flashing and again virtually no power. Vehicle was towed to the dealership. Tech performed hds scan and retrieved error codes: p0304, p0 05, and p0306. . . 4/5/6. Dealership claims was all due to needing a software update. Of which I never would have been aware of unless I experienced this scary loss of power on the highway. They had no sort of alert out that the new models are in need of a software update. Dangerous and do not feel safe driving this car any longer.

56 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2015 Acura RDX

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

2015 Acura Rdx the acceleration is very touchy in that slight accelerator pressure generates an unexpected increase in speed. The vehicle also tends to hesitate when accelerating while the transmission is simultaneously shifting gears. Also, when braking and applying slight yet constant pressure to the brake, the brakes often grabbed more abruptly. When coasting/slowing down, the transmission had a noticeable deceleration when the vehicle was down shifting. The feel was similar to down shifting of a manual transmission. It was more noticeable at 20-30 mph. The issues occurred when driving in heavy/congested traffic.

57 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2014 Acura RDX

Failure Date: 02/18/2014

The brakes do not stop the vehicle consistently. The story of my incident goes as follows: I was driving in dry conditions as I approached a stop light and began to apply the brakes. Once the vehicle came to a complete stop the car then began to slide into a busy intersection. The only way I was able to stop was by putting the car in park. Luckily the other drivers were able to see something was wrong and did not proceed to drive through me. This has happened to me twice! the other time I was driving under wet conditions and the car did not even come to a complete stop. It just continued to slide into the intersection. I am very concerned for my safety and life! Acura dealership refuses to admit that there is anything wrong with the vehicle after inspection and I dont know what else to do. The dealership has continued to dismiss my concerns.

58 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2014 Acura RDX

Failure Date: 02/16/2014

Rdx awd under icy conditions can kill torque to all 4 wheels. In my case as soon as all torque was lost the vehicle immediately started sliding down the incline. I was able to steer the vehicle in a 180 deg turn and slide forward down the hill until torque to the wheels was finally restored. There is no mention of loss of torque in any Acura literature available to me and Acura refused to provide information after the incident was reported. I consider this a serious design flaw.
