My engine malfunctioned by throwing a rod, causing the car to lose power and leak oil on the lower passenger side of the engine bay onto the floor below. I was driving to work on a busy highway at the time, and I had to pull over immediately to avoid collisions from other vehicles on the highway. The car immediately became undrivable. I had check engine lights visible on the dash after the incident and I could smell the oil that had leaked from the engine from inside the car. I had to call aaa to have them tow my car to the dealership for service. My engine had to be replaced. The engine had to be ordered, and it took them a little over 2 months to complete the necessary work to fix my vehicle. The problem was confirmed and addressed by the dealership once the vehicle arrived at the service location. The manufacturer inspected the damaged parts and offered a viable solution to repair the vehicle. The warning lamps were visible immediately after the incident occured. No warning lights were present prior to the failure.

My vehicle has the same 3. 5 liter naturally aspirated v6 that comes in the acrua mdx which is currently on recall for connecting rod bearings on vehicles with 3. 5-liter v6 engines can fail, leading to complete engine failure. My car has the excact same engin with the exact same problem. I have the full diagnosis and estimate from Acura engine replacement.
2016 Rlx sh-awd (bought new in 2017 - now with 62k on the odometer) developed a knocking noise on Friday, April 26th, 2024. I scheduled service with buerkle Acura (brooklyn park, mn) and drove it very little until the appointment on Wednesday, may 1st, 2024. I was hoping it was noisy valves, or a broken exhaust hanger, but was informed by the technician last night that there are metal shavings in the oil pan and that connecting rod bearing #5 is spun. All maintenance has been performed at this dealership, which is where I bought the car brand new. The engine in this vehicle is the j35y4 which is not part of the NHTSA recall no. : 23v-751. . The last month or so, I have had issues with the rear end fishtailing for a few seconds that would correct itself. Today after I pulled out of work, the car fishtailed when I was entering the highway. All the warning lights started flashing-paws, brake assist, power steering, hill, lane departure, etc. The power to engine was cut, steering wheel alignment off. Very scary on a 65 mph highway. I got to my garage and they checked it out. The error codes showed rear wheel steering but nothing further. They had no idea what caused and how to fix. The code did not help. I see there are numerous other complaints with this issue. This is very dangerous and a safety issue that Acura should take responsibility for before accidents occur!.
Vehicle will not shift into 3rd gear at random times - this can be when under moderate load to light load. This will limit the car to a speed to approx. 50mph, the transmission will not shift until the vehicle has slowed down 10+mph and sometimes will require you to come to a dead stop to function correctly. This has caused a handful of safety risk as you cannot force the vehicle to come to a complete stop in some instances - like merging on a highway or a highway without a shoulder. This has happened to 4 other Rlx that have been documented - Acura's response was we don't see it being a problem and will not authorize repairs at this time. - no matter my safety concerns. This has been very hard for the dealer to reproduce - it can be forcibly reproduced with heavy load - but the random lighter load examples can take 1-2 week to happen.
