While driving car, speed decelerated despite pressing on gas/accelerator pedal. Total ability to control speed on high way ended, as car crawled to a speed of under 5mph, nearly resulting in being hit by vehicles behind me. Immediately called independent mechanic who advised me to cut off ignition and restart the car. Highly dangerous to even attempt on a highway during rush hour traffic, nearly resulting in a multiple car crash. Reproduced several times until mechanic was able to diagnose and correct an issue unknown to me. There was no warning light indicator at all, no messages on car navigation/information panel.

I drove my car out the garage into the common alley in reverse, once out the garage. When I was out of garage attempted to close the garage door with the genie , and the garage door wouldn't close . I drove the car further away from the garage/building in reverse to determine , whether the genie would operate from another position , next thing I knew the car was accelerating uncontrollably, between 20 - 25 miles per hour in reverse next to our building's garages . My car only stopped because I slammed into my neighbor's garage , which was 4 doors down from my own garage . My accelerator was essentially, frozen. . . A runaway accelerator. Similiar instances while I was in the drive mode , but just for quite , short, times.

I purchased this vehicle from the oringinal owner 11-17. He didnt inform me of any problems with the vehicle. Three days after purchase I had a dead battery. Then I noticed the speedometer and tach would stop working when I was driving, also the vsa warning light would come on when I was driving. I searched on line and found that there was many complaints about my same problems, and that the dealer was no help at all. I tried disconnecting the hands free link, but I still had a dead battery the next day. The only solution I have found is to disconnect my battery every day when I come home. I replaced the battery in Jan. 2018. There are also receipts in the vehicle from the origanal owner for the same problems.

My dashboard has two long vertical cracks directly over the passenger side airbag. This is a known issue with this vehicle as noted by the numerous complaints received. The car has been garaged continuously since I have owned it over 7 years. There was no accident or incident to cause the cracking. It is a serious potential airbag safety issue. Acura does not want to address the issue despite a multitude of complaints. My wife will no longer sit in the passenger seat due to fear for her safety and possible airbag deployment.

Driving along and power goes out. As if pops out of gear. But do not hear a popping into and out of gear. Then all the sudden pops back into gear. This is dangerous. High speed and then power goes out.

On Tuesday oct 13, I was driving my 2006 Acura Tl at 20 km/h and suddenly and unexpectedly the car accelerated on its own and the engine was roaring. I didn't understand what was happening but my immediate reaction was to press on the brake pedal. While the car slowed down a bit the acceleration continued and then I press onto the pedal very hard, the tires slipped to a complete halt, just a few inches from a very busy intersection where I was supposed to stop. While I hadn't still fully assessed full situation, I automatically switch the transmission to neutral and the engine was still roaring, madly. I turned it off and waited until I gain full conscioussness of the situation; shifted transmission to parking. Some time later when I was already tranquil, I started the engine but the acceleration started, the engine again was roaring so I switched it off. I waited much longer and started the car again and this time it was ok. Since there is no Acura dealer in my hometown, I was advised to take it to a Honda dealer. The car spent the whole day but technicians couldn't find a problem. In another tighter situation (being closer to a busy intersection, or down a curve, etc) , or if my wife or kids had been driving the car, this case could've been much more dangerous, even fatal. Two Acura dealers said they have never encounter such problems. I contacted Honda but they didn't know of anything similar. In a quick internet search, I found many sites reporting this same problem. How many accidents should there be, or how many casualties before authorities do something about it ??? my email address is gquirogagoode@netscape. Net.
I have not been contacted about the airbag recall, the potential problem with the accelerator pedal and the driver side lower ball joint recall. Several years ago I exited a highway, came to a stop sign and when I made a right turn the drivers side ball joint broke. I had the repair done and luckily I didn't hurt ao or myself. Thank you stay safe. I think it was in 2015.
The contact owns a 2012 Acura Tl. While the accelerator pedal was gradually depressed, the vehicle hesitated. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the cause of the failure was undetermined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 29,700.
The vehicle jerk when you shift the gears would slip intermittently while in drive, reverse. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the transmission my ount, the tcc solenoid and the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 164,000.

I was pulling off the interstate and came to a red light on a hill right before haywood road. I had to stop because the light was red and when the light turned green I pulled onto haywood road and the car went through 1st gear, 2nd gear and right before it went into 3rd it slipped out of gear and just revved to around 4000 rpm. When the car went into 3rd and started sipping I had a pile of cars that bunched on my behind. I had two guys in a truck scream and yell obscene gestures.

The contact owns a 2002 Acura Tl. The contact stated that the gears had been slipping and slow to change over with a sudden jerk or lunge. The rpms would race intermittently once the gears changed and the engine and emissions warning indicators illuminated. The dealer (rivertown Honda, 4260 kenowa Ave sw, grandville, mi 49418, (616) 667-4500) cleared the codes, but the codes returned on the instrument panel within 48 hrs. The contact was uncertain if the dealer could provide a solution after taking the vehicle back again with no specific repair solution. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 04v176000 (power train). The failure mileage was not available.

I was driving down the highway at ~60+ mph in traffic and tapped the brakes. The car lurched and almost came to a dead stop (I later learned that the automatic transmission had shifted into 1st gear). This happened 2-3 other times as I tried to move over and get out of the traffic flow w/o being able to fully deploy the brakes. I had to "coast" to a stop. The force of the lurch was enough to throw me forward in my seat. I feel very fortunate that the airbag didn't deploy and that I was able to move to the shoulder without incident. The loud clunk that the car made when this happened made me think I had hit a huge rock or something in the road. Beyond scary. I am the only owner of this car and it has been 100% maintained by the dealer.
Vehicle self accelerated in parking lot. Went over parking curb, lending on the tree 14ft from the curb and was stop by the tree. The vehicle made intense accelerated noise, before jumping the curb.
I was applying the brake due to stopped traffic ahead of my car. As I did so, the car accelerated rather than slowed down. My car contacted the left rear of the car in front of mine, and as I tried to straighten out the car, it again accelerated. Veered to the right, and struck the stone wall of the bridge on the shoulder of the highway. According to the police report, there was a malfunction with the throttle mechanism. "officers witnessed, when starting the vehicle, the rpm indicator quickly rise to approximately 5,000/5,500 without any pressure applied on the gas pedal. The floor area did not exhibit items, including the floor mat, which would potentially be the cause. ".
The contact owns a 2010 Acura Tl. The contact stated while driving 5 mph in heavy traffic, the vehicle lunged when the brake pedal was depressed and crashed into another vehicle. There were no personal injuries. A police report was filed. The contact was able to drive the vehicle. The vehicle sustained severe front end body damages and was repaired by an independent mechanic. The failure occurred twice. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician was unable to duplicate or determine the cause of failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The failure mileage was unavailable.
Was driving my vehicle which I just purchased on may 26th 2012, and my car began to have shifting problems in 2nd and third gear racing rpms and would not stay engaged in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th gear and violently downshifted into second gear at freeway speeds causing me even restrained by the seat beat to fly into the steering wheel and windsheild bumping my head and hurting my back due to whip lash. This occurrence happened several times. Then the d5 would start flashing and check engine light became lite. After calling Acura customer care, brian informed me of the recall that had to do with this matter and was supposedly fixed. My car is unsafe to drive because of the rapid change of speed at the cars desire. I could injure not just myself but others around me.

Driving normally on city street when suddenly engine died & all electrical on console turned off. Car was diagnosed with faulty ignition switch. There had been a recall for this part. I've confirmed that my car was serviced by dealer under that recall & the ignition switch had been replaced some time ago; the replaced part failed. Incident placed my family in seriously dangerous situation--in middle of road/traffic without power or instruments & barely able to steer.
I was driving approximately 55 mph on a busy street. Without warning and without any direction from me, the cars right front brake engaged for a short period of time (seconds) and the steering wheel jerked to the right. The incident corrected itself quickly and the vsa light comes on and stays on. It is a very scary experience. In the beginning, it only occurred once every week or two. The frequency has steadily increased over the past year. At this time, it occurs about every other time you drive the vehicle.
Transmission broke on 2003 acur Tl s. Sucks as I have always changed n maintained services.
The transmission in my car is slipping at 2nd gear, as a result of which the rpm goes high but it doesn't match the speed of the road. The transmission as per the recall was fixed in the year 2004 , but the problem arose again and its hard for me to drive. The estimated cost of the transmission is 5k as per the dealer & the same has been reported to the Acura customer care department but I haven't heard anything from their side. I would be highly gratified to see a positive response from your side.
2006 Acura Tl (3. 2l) accelerator pedal position(app) sensor had a intermittent failure causing a loss of power and acceleration during a left turn at a busy intersection. Confirmed by dealer by reading history of failure codes. Had to pull out of traffic and restart car. Acceleration returned but check engine light stayed on. This has only happened one time. Immediately took car to dealer where fault code was read and as the fault had cleared, I was told to continue to drive the car because there was a month wait for a new sensor due to a backlog of orders for this part.
The contact owns a 2005 Acura Tl. While driving the vehicle at any speed the contact noticed that the vehicle would suddenly stop accelerating without warning. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where the contact was informed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The current mileage was 101000 and the failure mileage was 161000.
Acura Tl 2008: one incident, occurred April 8th, 2008. Car took off from a parking space, just as I was inching it forward with my foot on the brake. The brake would not stop the car. It jumped two curbs, I avoided hitting two parked cars. The car stopped with a pump of the foot brake, about 90 feet from where it took off. The speed was enough to go over two curbs, blowing out the front passenger tire, damaging the rim, and damaging the rear passenger tire. The impact caused a slight indentation to the roof of the Acura, next to the sun roof.
2004 Acura Tl engine cut off. Consumer also states that there was a throttle actuator malfunction. Seems that the consumer is requesting reimbursement for repairs. A diagnostic test revealed the throttle body was filled with carbon which caused the engine to stall and the vehicle would not respond to acceleration.
No events indicating a failure was imminent. Pedal brake for 1998 Acura failed to stop while driving in stop/go municipal traffic. Car accelerated out of control and hit an off road tree and was a total unrepairable loss. Police investigated. Car occupants transported to hospital for emergency treatment. No other personal injuries. Only minor property collateral property damages. Reported to auto insurance carrier and Honda America. Honda America declined to investigate or inspect the vehicle and claimed the gas pedal was mistakenly engaged instead of the pedal brake. Confirmed by ha letter. Acura owner settled claim with insurance company. . Read more...

My car begin to idle to 5 rpm and not change gears while driving. Pulled over and contacted local mechanic. I was instructed to bring car into Honda dealership in lake city, FL. The result was need a transmission flush and had it done. After test driving, the car continued to perform poorly. At this point I consider the car should go to the Acura dealership. My car was towed to gatorland Acura of gainesville, FL. After diagnostics completed a transmission was needed. A vehicle odometer reading at 80533, should not require a new transmission was my first response. I gave them no answer at this time as to what to do because I am thinking this is absurd. After two days of seeking advice and research,I found a recall was submitted for transmission issue. Upon contacting the dealer, I was given the price for repairs. Regardless of informing and debating this should not be a cost for consumer. The service department staff and manager was not very helpful nor professional. This should have been completely covered by warranty/highway safety recall. I wrote a letter to Honda headquarters and contacted the department by phone. Almost two weeks later, gatorland Acura offered to replace the transmission and I would be responsible for the labor. I was not pleased with the outcome but needed transportation because there was none offered to me. To this day, I have not returned there to pay for maintenance because of the trustworthiness of gatorland Acura or Honda headquarters. The recall issue was posted around February 2008 and my car was in for the exact issue may 2008. Continuously unhappy consumer.

My husband was driving the car and while in drive had his foot on the brake and the car revved up and lurched forward, he hit the brake hard to stop it. On October 5th I pulled into a parking space and applied the brake came to a stop and the car accelerated, I hit the brake hard and between the brake and hitting a curb came to a stop! on October 6th I was at a complete stop at a light facing uphill for at least a minute, the light was still red, traffic stopped I had my foot on the brake and the next thing I knew I was being propelled into the car in front of me! the police officer looked at all of the damage, the traffic conditions, talked to the witnesses and encouraged me to look into mechanical failure because it did not make sense! the woman in front of me went by ambulance to the hospital for a neck injury and my car has approx 3,000+ front end damage.
I was on the highway with heavy traffic and I was at a full stop on the right lane when my car lunged forward. I pressed the brakes harder and when nothing happened I tried to get into the exit lane which luckily was right next to me. Unfortunatley I hit the rear right hand side of the vehicle in front of me and the car still did not stop. It kept going at which time I released the brake and pressed it again thinking maybe it locked up or something. The vehicle still did not stop. I was almost out of the highway when I put the car in neutral and it finally slowed down. I put it in park and turned off the engine. Needless to say I was in shock and trembling uncontrollably. The car went off so far it took the other driver approximately 5 minutes to reach me. I read about 7 complaints of the same thing happening and nothing was done in 5 incidents. Two of the vehicles had an idle air control vavle replaced which I hope solved the problem. I sent these complaints to my insurance company and to the repair shop. I think this is an issue that needs to be addressed by Acura immediately. This is not a faulty head light, it's a safety issue. Had I been just a little closer to the vehicle in front of me, the accident could have been worse and involved more vehicles. The officer said I might have had my foot on both the brakes and the gas pedal but I am 120% positive that my foot was only on the brakes. This was also not human error. I was fully stopped and aware, I was not playing with the radio or on the phone. If this is not resolved I do not want this car.
