Power Steering Failed problems of the 2011 Acura TSX

While driving at approximately 45 mph my power steering abruptly failed. The "check power steering" indicator came on. The steering wheel immediately locked up. I was able to get the car into a nearby store parking lot but steering ability was almost nonexistent. I had the car towed to my Acura dealer who looked at the car and told me the electronic power steering component had failed and would need to be replaced. I researched this online and found that this seems to be a common problem with this make and model. The unit was replaced at a cost of $1,500. This is a serious safety issue and should be investigated as Acura/Honda has not addressed this at all.

My car has approximately 75,000 miles. I was driving in a parking lot and and indicator came on stating "check power steering. " the steering wheel locked up and became almost impossible to turn. I turned the car off and went on my way, hoping it was a temporary problem. The problem went away the next time I turned on my car. But 3 days later, the var did the same thing when I was driving in a parking lot. This time, it never went away. The car could not be driven, and was towed to my mechanic. My mechanic noticed that the power steering system frequently failed on 2011 Acura Tsx's. When I searched for "2011 Acura Tsx steering failure," I also noticed that this problem has happened frequently and has caused a number of accidents--the power steering has failed while people were driving. My mechanic ordered a new power steering computer for my car, but that did not fix the problem. At this point, it appears the entire steering rack needs to be replaced, which will cost $5,000-$6000.
