1 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2014 Acura TSX

Failure Date: 02/24/2020

The vtc actuator part number 14310-r40-a01 has gone bad. The very same part number is used on multiple hondas and Acuras. When used on the Honda variant (accord) the part has been deemed to be defective by Honda of America per TSB 09-010. Yet when the very same part is used in the same engine on an Acura, Honda of America refuses to acknowledge and/or replace the part. The issue occurs on cold starts and produces a loud grinding noise for about 2 seconds.

2 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2011 Acura TSX

Failure Date: 12/19/2016

At only 40,000 miles, my 2011 Acura Tsx has vtec actuator failure. It started to show signs of this over the last 5,000 - 10,000 miles or so and has become increasingly worse. I hear a grinding noise whenever I start my vehicle first thing in the morning. My local Acura dealer has done a diagnostic and has confirmed the actuator failure. Honda who also owns Acura, has been aware of this issue since approximately 2008. It is affecting a very large portion of vehicles with a Honda vtec engine. They have done nothing to fix this issue and it is affecting brand new vehicles as well. Now, they want to pass along the cost of repairs to me even though I should not be experiencing these kinds of problems at only 40,000 miles. I am still waiting for documentation from my dealer that confirms the actuator failure and can provide it in the next couple of days.

3 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2005 Acura TSX

Failure Date: 05/08/2012

My a/c compressor has failed 20 days after my warranty expired. Compressor made grinding noise for a few seconds, then a loud bang, then stopped working. I've read that there are similar issues with 2004 vehicles that have been addressed, not sure why 2005 vehicles weren't included. Apparently they were aware that these parts were bad and wouldn't last when vehicles were manufactured. Dealer has stated repair costs to be around 2,600.
