In June of 2012, I was traveling at approximately 60mph on a state highway when a loud grinding noise began coming from the engine. After a few moments the sound stopped and hot air began coming through my vents. I turned off my ac and pulled off the highway. This happened on a weekend and I took my car into the Acura dealership on Monday. I was told that my ac compressor had disintegrated on the inside and sent metal shavings and shrapnel through the entire hvac system. I had the compressor replaced with an aftermarket compressor to save money, the dealer flushed and dried all lines and components to remove any traces of metal and debris. The entire ordeal cost nearly $1,700. In August of 2013 my compressor once again disintegrated sending debris throughout my hvac system. According to the dealer, this occurred one month outside of the warranty on the aftermarket part. The same process had to be repeated and I was told it would cost an additional $1,800 in repairs and labor. I do not understand why the 2005 Tsx was not included in the class action settlement when it uses the same compressor as it's predecessor the 2004 Tsx which was included in the settlement. I have heard of many instances of this failure happening in the 2005's.

It was approximately 8:00 am, conditions were clear and the temperature was 51 degrees. I was at a full stop at a traffic light with the car in drive and my foot on the brake. The car was idling normally while waiting at the light and then suddenly I heard the engine noise change, rpms increased and I could feel the car pull against the brakes. I put the car in neutral and the tach shot up to 4,500 rpms. I put the car in park and shut it off. After the car was shut off, I restarted it and the rpms returned to a normal idle. I shifted into drive when the light turned green. It was hard to get the shifter out of park but it did go into drive. This incident occurred at the light in front of an elementary school. About a half dozen children were crossing in front of my car when the engine went out of control. It was very scary. I immediately contacted the closest Acura dealer to report the incident and took the car to that dealer. The dealer was unable to diagnose the problem so they called in the regional Acura representative. He conducted a 4 hour examination of the car but was unable to reproduce the problem and could not offer a solution for fixing the car. I requested a copy of the test report so that I could see what was tested and the results of those tests. Acura refused stating the information was proprietary. I've had numerous discussions with Acura corporate, the servicing dealer and the dealer where I purchased the car. The two dealers acknowledge the seriousness of the issue and state that they believe Acura needs to do something to solve this serious safety issue. The Acura corporate representative states their position as "we don't know how to fix the problem but we will not replace the car".

In September 2008, I purchased a new 2009 Acura Tsx from an authorized Acura dealer in pennsylvania. After a few weeks of driving, I started to notice a knocking noise coming from the engine. The noise occurs consistently while accelerating (particularly when accelerating between 2000-3000 rpms while going uphill). Per the dealers instructions, I have used only premium fuel in the vehicle since the purchase date. I heard this knocking noise while driving the car throughout the winter; however, the noise has become progressively louder as the weather has become warmer (the noise is much louder when the temperature is above 60 degrees). I took the car into the dealer (where I purchased the car) today (4/24/09). One of the technicians rode along with me, and I was able to replicate the noise for him. The technician acknowledged the noise and said that I shouldn't worry about it, that it is a normal characteristic of the car. I received a receipt from the dealer stating this in writing. Although the dealer states that this is a normal noise, it's not something I've ever heard in any other car before (including my last car, which was also an Acura) and I'm concerned that this problem may actually cause damage to the engine over an extended period of time. There are many other people that have reported the same problem on this website, and on many of the Acura discussion boards. My next step is to take the car to another Acura dealer to get a second opinion, and also to contact Acura's corporate customer service department. Any assistance the NHTSA could provide to the group of people that are experiencing this problem would be greatly appreciated.
