I notice after driving my 06 Audi A3 for about 30 minutes and with the engine warmed up, the car would jerk violently every time after warm up, and it would sometimes stall. My car is a automatic with dsg. The jerking happens when I applied the gas and it would happen in all the gears. There would be times where I'd be making a turn to cross on coming traffic, I hit the gas and the car would jerk giving me no power and stall in the middle of the street with on coming traffic! good thing they stopped for me! but what if I'm not so lucky the next time around? what if they don't stop in time? and what if I have my little sister, nieces and nephews in my car when it happens? I took it to the Audi dealer and told them about the problem but they found nothing that would cause the jerking and stalling. Twice! I feel like Audi knows about the problem but wont admit to it and do nothing. So many vw or Audi owners have the same issues. This isn't just about money, is about human lives which should be more valued than money to Audi.

Purchased a new 2011 Audi A3 tdi last Saturday. The following Friday while pulling out into an intersection the dsg transmission briefly went into neutral and I saw the tachometer needle shoot up and heard the engine whine. I was in manual mode at the time. I down shifted and let off the gas and it re-engaged. The following day (today) the same thing happened again. This time I was also in manual mode and was again pulling out into traffic from an almost complete stop. I will be calling the dealer Monday, but in the meantime I have since learned that this is an ongoing and known issue with vw / Audi dsg transmissions.

2007 Audi A3 dsg issues. My transmission has very hard shifting on ocassion. This happens randomly. Also at times the transmission will get stuck in between shifts. When this happens it is like the car is in nuetral. It has a loss of power for 10- 20 seconds. This issue is very concerning as there is no power at all. I am worried that at some point it may stay this way longer, disabling the car completely. I now also have an extremely loud rattle coming for the transmission area. I believe the hard shifting has caused the flywheel to start failing.
Dsg transmission harsh enaggement and banging bucking when statring from stop or in reverse also when enagging form park. Will go into nuetral and bang/lurch forward or back when it enagages making it very difficult to park and pull out into traffic. Dealership could not repauir until TSB for mechatronic released. New unit cured problem for aprox 15k miles now back and getting progressively worse. Dealership advised to "wait unitl it got bad" to bring it in sine they did not know what fix was. Brought back in at 47k miels and they re-adapted transmission and it got worse. Technical support told tehm to iorder another mechatronics (2nd replacement) as they diod not know what else to do. Waiting on part now.

When in traffic the car lurches forward without any input from driver. The car bucks back and forth, almost like the car is stalling. On a hill, if you take your foot of the brake, the car begins to roll backward - flooring the gas pedal causes the car to stop rolling backwards.
On my way to work in my 2007 Audi A3-all of a sudden I lose power and my car stops accelerating and shifts into neutral. I see that the p d n s lights are flashing so I attempt to restart my car. It starts to go again and then sputters forward without me doing anything. Luckily I wasn't far from home and was able to restart my car again and get it home while the car revved like crazy going less than 20mph. After some research I have found that many Audi/vw's experience this in their vehicles. These are all characteristic of a faulty mechatronic unit associated with the car's dsg.
For two days in a row, I have had issues with my automatic transmission shifting down to first gear. It occurs after a slow commute over a prolonged hill. Once I reach the top and accelerate, the transmission downshifts to first, resulting in extreme rpms. I have to shift the car done to low gear then back to d(rive) to reset it. The issue sounds extremely similar to issues encountered with the dgs system. My vehicle is a 2006 and therefore does not fall within the 2007-2009 vw and Audi recall. I'm extremely concerned about the cost I am about to incur to rectify this situation.
My 2008 Audi A3 2. 0t dsg (direct shift gearbox) has been having abrupt shifting and hesitation. The three main times issues occur are: 1. ) moving from a stop, either in forward or reverse. With light throttle input, similar to in parking situations or slow moving stop/go traffic, the car/transmission feels like it's not engaged and then suddenly engages and lurches forward/backwards. This is when I feel the car is most likely to cause an accident. 2. ) when slowing down to a stop (such as at a stop light/sign or for traffic), there is an abrupt thud which appears to be when the car is downshifting automatically into 2nd gear. This feels like it's doing damage to the car. 3. ) when slowing down, followed by mild acceleration (such as when turning right/left onto a perpendicular street without requiring a stop), the car hesitates, then revs very high (appears to choose too low of a gear), immediately followed by going into the "right" gear. This is alarming to driver/passenger and is annoying and distracting. I brought it in to the local dealership and they said it is the mechatronics unit, however there's no recall for my car so they just gave me the car back and said "call back in a month, maybe then there will be a recall".
As with a lot of people that have complained about the Audi A3 transmission. The trans started to lag thru the gears especially around 40mph. Also in reverse, you would press on the gas pedal to go back and the engine would rev but wouldn't move and then all of a sudden it would launch backwards. Very dangerous. The car wouldn't get out of its own way sometimes.
Since the day I bought my 2006 Audi A3 2. 0t, I am having this issue. When I start moving from a complete stop (such as on a red light), the car jerks back and forth 1-2 times roughly. This happens all the time without fail. The jerk is so powerful that it makes all passengers' bodies shift forward with its momentum. It feels as if I slammed on the brake suddenly. Also, at times, from a stop when I put my foot on the gas, the car hesitates before slamming into gear after 2-3 seconds of not responding to my throttle input. This has scared hell out of me at couple of instances because I almost got into a read rend collision from someone behind me not paying attention and almost slamming into the back of my car. Luckily, as I know my car had this charcterstic so I react quickly in such occasions. From what I understand after reading plenty of stuff online, this is a problem with the mechatronics unit. Many people have had success fixing the problem by getting a replacement dsg/transmission/mechatronics unit installed. When I visit Audi dealer, they say everything is fine. I had been to Audi dealer for 3 times. But, I'm sure that everything is definitely not fine. Something needs to be done to fix this problem as everyone I have met with the same car has the same problem. Instead of ending into the hospital beds for whiplash from read end collision or worse, this has to fixed in all the Audi A3s.
My Audi A3 with dsg has been experiencing shifting problems from 1-2 and 2-3. On the 29th, while accelerating from a light in heavy traffic, the transmission shifted very roughly and the engine seemed to have lost power. When I looked into my mirror, the car directly behind me didn't expect my sudden loss of acceleration and came close to rear ending me. This rough shifting is getting progressively worse and I am going to take it to the dealer to have it checked out soon.
2007 Audi A3 dsg transmission. Vehicle hesitates on acceleration from stop, 2-3 sec. Delay in accelerating. Upon decelerating to stop and restarting, transmission delays shifting into 1st for approx. 1sec causing a severe clunk as the transmission shifts into 1st while engine revs are higher than idle. This problem has increased in frequency in the last 5000 miles. These issues cause near misses merging into traffic and increase the odds of rear end collisions when cars following don't hesitate.
When feathering the gas pedal through traffic, the car surges/lurches trying to find gear. Also, there are times when pulling out of a side street or taking off from a red light, when pushing on the gas pedal, all of a sudden it seems like there is no power. We bought the car in early '08 and the problem randomly started towards the end of '08. At that time we thought it may have been just bad gas. It seems the problem is getting worse and more frequent as of late. Reading forums and articles online, it seems to be the symptoms of the transmission which is a dsg/s-tronic transmission. At this time, the dealer is stating nothing is wrong with the transmission. I own another car with the same transmission, and that seems to have none of the above problems.
2008 Audi A3 with 2. 0 engine and 6-spd auto dsg gearbox. During summer of 2009 started having problem in which from a stop (red light, etc. ), when letting off the brake and giving it gas it would hesitate for 1-2 seconds before finally jerking or lurching (somewhat violently) into gear. Sometimes it would jerk twice. Also the downshift from 2nd to 1st is somewhat rough. The problem is still present but not as bad, however it seemed there was a strong correlation between how hot it was outside and the symptoms being worse. Took it to cutrubus Audi in layton, ut at end of summer, they said there was no problem, that how it was shifting was normal for the dsg. Just got a letter from Audi of America that they are developing a way to diagnose faulty mechatronic units (which causes jerking) in late spring of 2010, but I don't want to wait that long to have this problem rectified. Will be trying a different dealer soon.
From a stop, or slow speeds, transmission was lurching w/out an apparent pattern.
Failure occurs when engine is warm (I. E. During warm weather 65 f+ and/or after engine has had time to warm up after driving for a while). The vehicle lurches and clunks into 1st gear when downshifting, typically when pulling to a stop or driving at parking lot speeds. Also, vehicle lurches into reverse and seems to have delayed shifts when accelerating. All occurs when transmission is in auto or manual mode.
I have been experiencing dsg shifting issues. On slight inclines such as driveway entrances, when in reverse, I'll accelerate and there is no response. Many times, neighbors think I am revving my car. Also, when accelerating from start or a slow speed on d or s mode, the engine will rev very high close to 4000-5000rpm. A dsg service had been done by the dealer a few years ago and I had another one done last month suspecting that it could be the fluid but to no avail, I am still experiencing this issue.
2008 Audi A3 3. 2 dsg: transmission would drop violently forcing a reduction in speed. Pressing the accelerator sometimes would not let the car accelerate. . . Engine revolutions would not rise. Difficult to maintain a safe speed consistently. Taking two both dealerships in miami-dade county (the collection and prestige). The service eventually did nothing to the car. Audi would not honor any service without ecm logged errors. I saw a recall investigation on later model cars, but a continuing investigation on cars including my model year for the exact symptoms I have experienced. This has happened several times and without notice or the ability to recreate at will.
My car was okay for the first year or so that I owned it. Starting about the beginning of 2009, my dsg transmission started acting funny. When I would let off of the brake, the car would sit for a split second and then jump forward quickly as if I had blurped the throttle. Sometimes it does it twice before rolling smoothly. It feels like the clutch is engaging too strongly and then letting off. Also, when coming to a stop, the transmission seems like it holds on to the gear a little too long and makes my car jump forward right before a stop. It does this is reverse also. It has caused me to almost hit another vehicle while parking and also has caused me to go too far into the crosswalk at a stop light. It does this all of the time, not just when the engine/transmission is cold.
Direct shift gearbox (dsg) transmission started jerking when starting from a stop. Second to first downshift would be severe with a loud "clunk" from the dsg. Went to dealer and vehicle was diagnosed with a faulty tcu(mechatronics module). Part is on backorder and will take over 1 month to get in. Was told that vehicle is okay to drive but with the uncertainty of reliable performance and potential damage to other transmission components I don't agree. Have researched and found many other Audi and vw owners with this same problem and similar experience with significant delays in getting the replacement part. Apparently vag is focused more on producing new vehicles than making sure the vehicles already on the road are operating properly. This company has no concern for customer service once they have your money.
