Equipment Problems of Audi A3 - part 1

I was driving vehicle and heard a loud sound like an explosion. I looked up and there was a big hole in my sunroof. The sunroof exploded. Yes you can look at it. It proceeded to crack and glass flew everywhere. Danger was that glass flew everywhere, got in my hair and could have been way worse. It is very dangerous and lucky I didn’t wreck. I have no idea was this is not deemed bad enough for recall. Audi has the vehicle and the case has been turned over to their corporate engineering department. They are going to determine if they will fix it which I know from reading this is a recurring issue. There were no warnings. Insurance knows but Audi is responsible.

Safty issue with standard equipment, backup camera stopped working. Safty feature now unavailable. Told by dealer that it's a common issue. Will fail massachusetts inspection because the camera is standard safety equipment. Told I need a new 5f module and they are back ordered at Audi which tells me it's a major problem since they can't supply them now, should be a recall on this unit. . . .

The honk stopped functioning on January 21 2026. I noticed this when a car was moving into my lane on a major highway and I need to honk to alert them. Not being able to alert another drive that they are about to hit me puts me, the other driver, and potentially others at risk. I had to break hard, which is also a safety hazard. The honk has not functioned since, so it was not an isolated issue. No warning lights went on. I have scheduled an appointment with the bridgewater dealership for Friday January 30.

1) electronic emergency brake goes on repeatedly when attempting to put vehicle in gear. 2) speed control has coasted to a very low speed while on the highway several times, on its own with no vehicles in front of me. 3) numerous other “glitchy” electrical issues exist. Dealer says they are collaborating with engineers in germany. There is currently no fix. It is as if the vehicle is always cycling through various “glitches”.

The rearview camera is failed. Yes I can have an inspection done. Yes, dealer confirmed that camera is failed but wanted hundreds of dollars to troubleshoot. Has not been inspected by police or insurance. No it just stopped working one day.

Blown turbo with propeller broken off lodged into the pre-catalytic converter, which caused damage to the catalytic converter/exhaust requiring a new turbo and a complete new catalytic converter and exhaust system. They also found major oil leaking from the upper timing cover gaskets, which I later found documented on the accounting service record as not repaired at that time few months from my purchase. These known engine damages were a major contributor to the engine failures that I’m faced with today. Oil starvation from known oil leaks, damaged gaskets, and failing parts caused oil starvation of the turbo, constant overheating with coolant and oil problems since purchasing the car and which ultimately froze the turbo and snapped the propeller. I’m still struggling without an operating vehicle for over a year, and trying to afford these expensive repairs, which should’ve been covered under the 15 year pzev warranty and/or recalls of these known parts failures. It was at the dealership in plenty of time for the smog certification, which was the sole reason for the appointment and it being at Audisd, which they refused to do. These are extremely expensive repairs, these are known issues with several class action lawsuits and recalls behind them, yet they simply refuse to take ownership, deny any support, and making excuses for their lack of responsibility. I asked several times for them to do the right thing, take the car back and refund my money or give me an equivalent car to what I was promised when I purchased it, they refused and no management has been involved. I deserve to be compensated for my time over the last several years dealing with these repeated issues, compensation for all the parts I have been forced to buy, refunded the amounts I’ve paid for technicians to truly diagnose the problem and for the repairs I’ve yet to be able to afford, as well as the towing and other charges I have incurred as a result of purchasing this vehicle from Audisd.

Passenger air bag not working light of airbag system stays on.

The thermostat failed and had it replaced and now the water pump has failed.

There is a current recall for 2015-2020 Audi A3 sedan models regarding the vehicles evap system, and I believe my car is experiencing that same issue but my specific vehicle isn’t listed as it is a 2016 Audi A3 premium plus sportback e-tron. My engine light is illuminated and when checked, the detecting device says the warning is due to a small leak from the evap system in the vehicle.

Will be driving down the road and warning light comes on and car forces me to switch over to manual transmission in order to drive it. If I turn the vehicle off for a minute it will let me reset it to automatic, but then will switch back over to manual. Just wondering if the fuel leak pump that has been recalled is causing this problem.

I recently was involved in a collision where my car going at 30 mph collided with. Car that was completely stopped that I unfortunately didn’t see I’ve previously been warned by the safety system where it’s saved me by first Audio warning and then immediately breaking allowing me to avoid collision unfortunately prior to the accident I never had any issues but occasionally noticed that the Audi pre sense could be triggered occasionally when I was driving on the highway and the police were using radars to control speeding cars I could occasionally see the light safety system alert me but almost immediately disappeared I’m assuming the radar could affect the safety system since the indicator picked up that a few times but only popped up warning and said it was currently restricted but never did anything as I’m sure it knew it wasn’t needing to break however I have concerns about the safety system and it’s lack of safety especially the last incident where I was traveling in a completely straight direction and hit the car in front of me that was stopped in traffic the safety system never worked properly and I seem to have the same issue even now with the system but won’t work and doesn’t do anything to alert me to potential problems anymore I’m not sure the account cause of the failure but Audi of America hasn’t been really responsive with my safety concerns and won’t return my phone calls or email I’ve recently been notified of a potential class action complaint which involves the very same safety concerns that Audi is being sued.

Dropped off car to Audi arlington to fix recall. They said it was finished but did not update the recall status. Called Audi multiple times to ask, was not able to reach them. Left voice mail and still no call back.

While I was driving down the road out of know where my moonroof bursted open and sounded like a gunshot and clumps of glass fell into the car, previous night before I heard shifting sounds in the roof.

As of October 25, 2022, the manufacturer (Audi) continues to not provide a solution to recall number 69by / NHTSA recall number 21v198, stating that parts are still not available.

My 2015 Audi A3 has a recall since first part of 2021 for passenger air bag sensor. We have tried several times to get this recall fixed and every time we call the dealership they don’t have the parts. This has gone on for about a year and a half now. I would hate to see this turn into a very large lawsuit because Audi doesn’t know how to get the parts.

Dealer (Audi of palo alto) has failed to notify us of this safety recall or make arrangements to fix it.

Vehicle switched into neutral and accelerated unable to control or stop crashed into bush 2014 Audi checked said no issuue vehicle switches gear unexpectedly on highway and slows and drags Audi checked said normal 9/3 2022 foot on break to a full stop at a light anothet auto in front Audi suddenly switched gear and started to accelerate would not stop crashed into car in front gear stayed frrozen in neutral for a few mimutes.

Upon parking in my garage, the vehicle leaked fuel from the rear-wheel on passenger side. There were no warning lights to indicate the fuel line or other component was compromised or malfunction. The vehicle was towed to the Audi service center for inspection. The inspection revealed fuel was in the charcoal canister, filter and leak diagnostic pump; replacements were needed. Com/video-walkaround/details?inspection_uuid=62b08d040e1dff5107d5e511&filetype=image_and_video the fuel leak was similar to the 2016 Audi recall 16v647000; it was due to a problem with the suction pump inside the fuel tank, fuel may flow into the evaporative emissions (evap) system. As fuel accumulated in the evap system, it leaked out through the charcoal canister filter element.

Car stalled in fast moving traffic, and then lurched forward. In the stall the car behind me almost ran into me. In the lurch, I almost rear ended someone. Fortunate that both times there was no collision. Took the vehicle to Audi and the car has been diagnosed with failed mechatronic - a $4,000 repair. It was shared that this is a known issue with Audi for my model year (faulty mechatronic), and as such has been recalled in several countries, but not the us. I called Audi USA and was informed that yes it is a known issue and has been recalled in other countries, but that NHTSA has not required Audi USA to open a recall here, and so they can't help me. I'm asking for some assistance. Thank you very much.

Supposedly the recall parts for the pods system can’t be replaced because Audi is not manufacturing the necessary part!! there is no schedule or estimated time for when the parts will become available. Now I am afraid to drive my car knowing my passenger is not safe! this requires immediate attention as I cannot risk my passengers’ lives every time they are in my car. We have been trying to resolve this for months and the service center says they cannot do anything until the parts somehow magically become available.

The panoramic sunroof suddenly shattered when drove on the highway I-15 at the speed around 75mph. There was no other cars around me when this happened, and we didn't use any heater or a/c at that time, all windows were closed. There is no sign of glass exploding prior to the failure. If the shade is not closed, the exploded sunroof glass will splash in the car cabin, causing injury for all passengers. Also, the shattered broken glass will hit the vehicles behind my car in a high speed. I have visited the Audi dealer, but they have no explanations about why this happen, they didn't exam the defect glass yet.

Since 2021-2022 I have had several issues with my reservoir tank. This tank holds my coolant and has leaked continuously. They had a settlement for this problem but omitted the A3. I paid Audi dealership $ 1,600. 00 to fix the problem a few years ago and have been having the same problem ever since. A few months after I paid for this problem Audi had a settlement for the reservoir tank and I was denied reimbursement because I owned a A3 and A3’s were not included in the settlement but A3 ‘s still had the reservoir problem as well. I contacted Audi USA on several occasions and still have been disregarded but Audi USA wants you to pay for the diagnostic first at the dealership just for them to even look at the immediate problem. I just contacted Audi USA again 1/29/25 because now I have to put my car in the shop again to get it fixed but the coolant constantly leaks and Audi service shop wants me to pay for it and I feel that I should not have to pay for (their )problem again and the same problem over and over. At this point the coolant is pouring out like water and I must get my car to the shop immediately because the engine light comes on stating no coolant running hot and this is how the Audi cars catch on fire. Please investigate this !!!! I refuse to give Audi any more of my money when they should be held responsible. I can’t find my receipt of date and amount paid but I can get this info from the dealership. I’m tired of going in a circle with this same car issue. I want my car fix and my settlement reimbursement.

Sunroof exploded while driving. All windows and sunroof closed also sunscreen was closed. I heard a terrifying loud explosion then I heard all the glass shattering and falling on the sunscreen. I pulled over and called police because I thought it was a gunshot. But no evidence of a gunshot, rock, bird or object. Sunscreen is intact. It was on christmas day so was not a hot day and no heater turned on at the time.

Audi baton rouge informed me there is a problem with coolant migration at coolant tank connector (coolant could leak into wire harness) and cause severe damage to electrical system want $300 +_ to repair. Since this is not something caused under normal conditions or negligence on my part I do not feel I should be responsible for cost of repair, should be a recall on Audi.

There has been a national recall on my VIN with no known fix at this time. My car has stalled, would not cool off, it will read error codes that don’t make any sense. It goes from speed, to shut engine off now, immediately exit and turn off vehicle, saying it’s too hot, oil leaking, airbag lights coming on/off randomly, the air conditioner won’t cool off when the dash lights are reading multiple codes and I’ve had to stop my car multiple times on the highway and when just running to the store a few miles away. It’s very strange and concerning. It’s becoming for frequent and I drive every day all day for work, along with having children in my car. I purchased this brand new from Audi of fort worth texas in 2016. All routine maintenance has always been done. My concern for myself and children has increased over the last few months and each time I have to get in my car I have a fear that overwhelms me! I’ve contacted the Audi dealership multiple times and they’ve said I need to be patient, there is no fix at this time and they don’t know if/when there will be one. This is not acceptable and is putting our lives at risk on a daily basis. I would like to know my options and their legal responsibility to help the situation. I will notate the most recent date of occurrence below. The pictures I’ve uploaded are from the most recent experience when leaving a sam’s grocery club and had just turned from a red light on a main road. I had to stop my vehicle, shut off the engine and remain in a center lane dangerously fast traffic all around me and had to call my son to pick me up.

I have contacted Audi USA several times regarding the recall on my Audi A3 2016 but it seems that they don't care about the issue and asked me to drive it and nothing will happen.

The passenger occupant detection system (pods) may detect a malfunction and switch off the passenger airbag even though the seat may be occupied. I have been waiting for the recall on my vehicle to be fixed since 03/22/2021. It has been 6months and the manufacture still doesn't have a remedy to fix my vehicle. I can't sale my vehicle or even rent it out because of the recall.

The car shuts off when driving. All power steering, electrical, power brakes, engine. . . Everything. Has shut off driving on freeway going 70mph.

I was driving on NJ turnpike on a 75 mile trip back home and after into 55 miles of the trip, the vehicle completely lost power. . I was going about 65 miles or so and it was extremely scary and dangerous. With the grace of god, I was able to use the momentum to make it to a side lane between the travel lanes and merge lane off of the ramp, the are car lost so much power and trying to maneuvering around traffic that I was not even able to make it to the safety side lane. The car has to be towed to the exit. Audi took it to their local dealer. The car is a 2019 model with 12946 miles on the odometer. The vehicle was towed to Audi dealer in freehold NJ and I understand from the tow driver that day before same make and model, year of another similar vehicle with the exact same problem has been towed to Audi in edison NJ.

I was driving on the freeway. All of a sudden I heard a loud sound and the sunroof shattered. It was a sunny day and there was not much traffic on the freeway. The sunroof shade was drawn so it caught glass that could have fallen inside the car. There were no other objects caught in the shade, only glass. I don't think it was possible that anything hit the sunroof. I did not see anything, there wasn't traffic overhead, and there weren't any large vehicles near my car. The sunroof just suddenly shattered with a loud sound.

Excessive oil consumption car has 2,300 miles left to the 10k oil service check change and showing low oil. This is not normal Audi is trying to say to just top off the oil, yet excessive oil consumption will cause the car to need engine replacement earlier than it should at about 70-80-100k miles at best. There are many complaints and a class action that involved this issue but they refuse to do more than change oil and check for leaks when they know it is due to defective parts and I am under a certified warranty until October 2019.

There is a recall on our daughters Audi A3 that we have been trying to have fixed for over 2 years. We call, we follow up and are consistently told there is no fix for the problem. The letters we continue to receive say it is about 4 hours of work on the pods system. I am tired of our college daughter paying for a known unsafe vehicle and am reaching out as we have exhausted all possibilities with Audi USA.
