Intermitent complete brake failure. Has happened 3 times the week of 6/27/03. Dealer can not replicate problem and is making me take car out of service area. The dealer admits they would not drive the car with this problem and I don't know what to do next.

Especially during highway driving the braking system does not initially apply any meaningful stopping power when driving in wet conditions. This results in a 1-2 second delay in actual slowing when applying brakes in the wet.
Rear brakes make whining/grinding sound only when in reverse. Dealer has tried deglazing and power washing brake discs and routers to no avail.
In wet conditions (rain or slush), brakes intermittently fail to respond for several seconds, then grab normally. Been this way since I took delivery of car. This is not normal wet weather braking force reduction. More like no brakes at all for a few seconds. I believe the brakes are getting wet internally due to lack of proper shields, but dry themselves off after a few seconds of application, which would explain the several second delay followed by normal braking. The dealer has inspected all braking system components twice for me and found nothing unusual. Lots of other Audi A4 owners complain about the same problem. No other car I have ever owned or driven has behaved like this in wet weather. Especially at highway speeds the braking delay is extremely dangerous, paticularly since it is intermittent. You just never know when the car will decide not to stop when you need it to! the only way I have found to deal with the problem is to apply the brakes every ten or fifteen seconds to k eep them dry. But that, too, is dangerous, since following traffic goes bananas seeing my brake lights come on all the time for no apparent reason. I have complained to Audi of America, which claims they know nothing about this problem and have not had other complaints about it. They are lying, because I know other A4 drivers who have also complained bitterly to Audi of America and their dealers about this problem. Please help us!.

During wet weather, the brakes takes several seconds to catch after the pedal is depressed. This has caused many near accidents since this behavior is not normal nor expected. Dry weather braking is just fine. I am very concerned about this problem and have contacted Audi of America and my dealer. They do not have a solution for the problem yet. I need help!!.
Brakes ineffective for 1-2 seconds during heavy rain.
During wet weather braking, the front disc brakes seem to fail. The cars front end seems to slide to the left approximately 4 feet upon braking. This happens only in the rain, with no adverse effects during dry weather. I have contacted Audi, who then referred me to the dealership. The dealership has stated that Audi will not warranty the correction, since they do not know how widespread the problem is. However, I have noticed a large amount of complaints on your website, and on the Audiworld website. I submit that there is a defect in the front braking system of the A4 during wet weather driving, and that this defect could and will cause an accident. Even thought the car did stop, it required steering correction to put it back into the lane. The manufacturer should acknowledge that there is a defect and it should be covered by the manufacturer. If there is an accident, Audi will be held responsible and can be sure the reputation of their cars will suffer again. Please investigate this problem as it is potentially dangerous.

Disc brakes are not adequately shielded from water while driving in the rain or snow, resulting in no braking effort for approximately the first two seconds of brake application. The brakes are fine in dry weather, but always catch me by surprise in the wet, when you step on the pedal nothing happens until the water is shed from the brake discs. Nlm.

There is a 2 sec. Delay for brake response when wet. Much worse than any other vehicle I have driven. This will cause accidents. Vehicle will not stop in published distance when brakes are wet. New brake pad material is required . There are already many other reports of this same problem in your data base.
In heavy rain or after washing car brakes do not work for about 1-2 seconds after application. It is very scary and dangerous imo.
The brakes dont work is wet driving conditions. I have had this happen many time at speeds from 15 to 70 mph. When driving in the rain or on wet roads, I will apply the brakes but the car does not starting stopping for a second or two. When the brakes finally do start working they almost alway go into anti-lock mode because I have had to push so hard just to get them to work. This is a scary and dangerous problem and I have heard of other people having it also.
Brakes do not "grab" in the wet/rain. There appears to be a one to two second delay between stepping on the brakes and the car slowing done. I have noticed this same delay, in dry weather, at highway speeds of 50-60 mph.
Wet disc brakes have no stopping ability for 1-2 seconds. Dry brakes function normally.
Wet braking problems. Extremely long time for brake to engage when wet. Causes unsafe driving condition as brake do not work properly when wet.

Wet weather braking very poor under certain conditions.
Brakes noisey and showing excessive wear.
The A4, unlike all other cars I've ever owned, does not have 'splash shields' inboard of the front disc brake rotors. In the rain, this causes a quite alarming period, when the brakes are initially applied, of sheer terror, because the car is not stopping! this has been made a mandatory recall all across europe, and there, insurance companies won't cover you if you rear-end someone and don't have the shields on. I see no reason why Audi won't also carry this to the us, until they get sued when someone gets killed because of it. Switching to gas-slotted brake rotors helps this situation, but does not eliminate it. Thanks, and I hope this gets taken care of before I hit someone! OH, every single person with an A4 that I know has the same problem.
During or after raining, initial braking has no response for about 1 - 2 seconds. Then the brakes slowly build up friction to engage stopping power. I realize that wet roads cause some brake performance loss, but this exceeds the norm. There are also many other A4 owner complaints about the same problem on the A4. Org forums.
Brake performance poor when wet. Unsafe in a panic stop.
Wet braking 2/3 second delay of braking power when driving in rain at highway speed. Dt.
Poor wet weather braking - all times - about a 2 second delay before brakes grab.
When it rains, the brakes seem to take a second or two to "grab. " they work well under all dry conditions, but when wet, they sure make you panic!.
Severe delayed braking when road conditions are wet, raining, etc.
This model Audi has dangerous wet braking. When the brake pedal it pressed in the rain, the brakes do not respond for at least 2-3 seconds. This is extremely dangerous. My dealer (other from where I purchase the Audi) says this is normal, and nothing CA.
