1999 Audi A6 quattro suddenly accelerated. I was pulling into a parking slot at maybe 5 mph, my foot was lightly pressing on the brake pedal, as I was nearly in the parking stall. The engine was at idle speed. As I coasted into the parking stall with my foot on the brake pedal the engine suddenly and without any prior warning revved up to above 3000 rpm. The car lurched forward hitting the parking curb directly in front of me. I immediately applied more pressure to the brake pedal to keep the car from jumping over the curb, and shifted the gear selector into n. The engine then revved even higher, at which point I turned off the key. With the key off, I moved the gear selector to p, and restarted the engine. The vehicle then ran idled at normal speed, and drove normally to my home about 1/4 mile away. I'm afraid to drive the vehicle. This is the second time this has happened; the first time it happened was as I was coasting to a stop at a red traffic light. Again my foot was on the brake and the engine was returning to idle speed. As I approached the intersection the engine revved causing me to coast through the intersection before being able to bring the vehicle to a full stop, again by applying strong breaking force. I then put the transmission in n and the engine revved higher, so I switched off the key. Thankfully the other vehicles had already cleared the intersection and there was no collision. When I restarted the vehicle, it idled and drove as normal again. The outside temperature was above 45 degrees fahrenheit and the pavement was dry in both cases.

Sudden acceleration, caused by driver's loose floor mat. Started car in garage. In park, engine ran at 4,000 rpm from start. Tried to kick down gas pedal several times, no change. Ignition on and off three times, no change. Pressed firmly on the brake, shifted to reverse. I knew it would lurch. Got out of garage, pressing firmly. Rpms dropped to normal 1,000 range. Shifted into drive, car rpm increased to 4,000 rpm and lurched. Sat there for five minutes thinking it would settle down. Nothing. I then decided to check the floor mat. It was on top of the gas pedal. It had moved forward because the one of the securing locks on the mat had broken free.

- the contact stated that the 1999 Audi A6 quattro had problems with acceleration. The vehicle accelerated on 02/05/07. The contact's wife was driving at 65 mph when the vehicle accelerated on its own. The contact stated the only way the vehicle stopped was to push the brake pedal with both feet. The contact called the dealership and had an appointment set up for today 02/12/07. It happened again on 02/09/07. While driving the vehicle, and she was at a complete stop made a right turn and slowly accelerated to 45 mph. The road surface was completely dry, the vehicle accelerated unexpectedly. The gas pedal went to the floor by itself without her pushing it to the floor. The driver applied the brakes with the right foot and the vehicle didn't stop. Then tried to pull the accelerator pedal up with the oe to stop the acceleration. She tried to pull the vehicle over to the side of the road, but the vehicle didn't decrease in speed. While trying to get the vehicle to come to a stop she then hit a tree. She hit the tree off the center of the front of the vehicle, and airbag didn't deploy, but the seat belt did restrain her. The contacts wife sustained neck and sternum injuries. And was taken to the hospital by an ambulance. There was a police report. The current mileage was 14000.
1997 Audi A6 unintended acceleration - stuck throttle. Only way to stop car from moving was to turn off ignition. Audi dealer (suds - normal, illinois) found ice in throttle housing and was familiar with problem on other like-model Audis. If I did not have presence of mind to turn off engine I would have run into cross traffic on busy six lane highway.

I have a 2007 Audi A6 quatro. I was in a parking garage and needed to turn around. Vehicle was involved in an accident, backed into a cement pole, slowly, but enough to be felt. When I put the car in forward and began to move forward, the car accelerated on it's own at a very high rate of speed. We crashed head-on into a cement wall. I know many cases of unintended acceleration have been reported, with the conclusion that drivers hit the accelerator when they thought they were hitting the brake. I was not trying to brake, I had applied the brakes when I hit the pole in reverse and was attempting to accelerate forward when the car just took off like a rocket. I did not have time to brake before we hit the wall. I hope you will investigate this. Someone easily could have been killed. Note, when filling out the vehicle information, it was an A6.

While pulling inside of the garage, the vehicle suddenly accelerated. This caused the vehicle to skid into the back wall of the consumers home. No injuries reported. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection.
I own a 1998 Audi A6 which on several occasions has experienced sudden unintended acceleration. While attempting to slow the vehicle by braking for a stop, the engine starts to accelerate and rev all the way to 6000 rpms. The only way to avoid an accident was the depress the brake pedal as hard as possible, put the gear selector in neutral, and turn the engine off. After restarting the engine, the vehicle would operate in a normal fashion. This problem extremely dangerous situation has occurred 3 times since I purchased the vehicle (Audi certified pre-owned) and has been reported to the local Audi dealer on several occasions. They can find nothing wrong with the car.
