Equipment Problems of Audi A6 - part 1

Audi A6 owners have reported 45 problems related to equipment (under the equipment category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Audi A6 based on all problems reported for the A6.

1 Equipment problem of the 2017 Audi A6

Failure Date: 12/26/2024

Frequent motor mounts failure, and leakage of hydraulic fluid from both left and right mounts. Motor mounts failure have occurred about three times in the last four years. After some online research and reading, found out that other newer Audi owners are having a similar issues with their mount amounts at low mileage just like myself.

2 Equipment problem of the 2019 Audi A6

Failure Date: 08/13/2024

The car was purchased in 2019, brand new from Audi dealership. Last service showed a serious issue: replace water pump vacuum lines with solenoids and vacuum reservoir. Dealership claims out of warranty and wants to charge $5000. Vw settled class action lawsuit with consumers due to faulty water pump, and there is a technical service bulletin dated 11/21/2023 that states the water pump leaks coolant and needs to be repaired. Consumer should have been made aware that vehicle was at risk of faulty water pump that could have been replaced at time of bulletin issue because it would have been under the 4 year mark.

3 Equipment problem of the 2021 Audi A6

Failure Date: 01/01/2024

The car has had multiple issues with warning lights and malfunctioning systems. Including : 1. Child locks 2. Every single component of the adas 3. Emergency services being activated at least a few times a month - this is an sos for emergency 911 service. The repeated, continuous and mostly false warning lights are a driving distraction that can easily cause an accident. I have photos of all warning lights coming on in the vehicle. The dealership has repeated stated that they couldn't reproduce the problem even though pictures were provided and the car is still under the original warranty period. The latest attempt to fix the vehicle was to replace the sensors on the front of the vehicle. This solution was only attempted after the 4th report of the problem to the dealership where the car was serviced under the original manufacturers warranty.

6 Equipment problem of the 2019 Audi A6

Failure Date: 06/19/2023

The rear backup camera frequently does not come on when the car is in reverse and backing up.

7 Equipment problem of the 2020 Audi A6

Failure Date: 06/15/2023

The rear view camera on the vehicle stops working intermittently. I have provided photographs of this to the dealer. Their scanning of fault codes noted that the "right environmental camera faulty b127d04: rear environmental camera faulty. " the ticket also notes they found multiple sporadic faults for b127f04. Although they have admitted to finding faults with the camera, they refuse to fix this because they could not duplicate the exact behavior at the time it was in their shop. By definition, this is an intermittent issue. Audi had other model years recalled for this same issue. I believe this is a serious safety threat as one can't see things behind you and a person or vehicle could be hit. Audi is aware of this issue and is refusing to repair it under warranty.

8 Equipment problem of the 2020 Audi A6

Failure Date: 04/22/2023

The car literally stopped working while driving. All electrical components shut down. Unable to put the car into neutral to push it to safety. Had a hard time getting the vehicle towed because the parking break engaged somehow and we were unable to disengage it. Hazard lights did not work at all! extremely unsafe situation to be in, especially if on a highway or expressway with vehicles traveling nearby at high speeds.

9 Equipment problem of the 2019 Audi A6

Failure Date: 11/10/2022

Multiple warnings indicating to contact dealer (lane departure, adaptive cruise control, collision avoidance, etc) then 1 minute later transmission failure and engine failure imminent. . . . Pull over immediately and contact dealer. I turned into a road off main highway within a minute of the last two warnings and as I turned, my center mmi went blank then my electronic dash went blank, transmission went into neutral and the engine died all within a few seconds. Fortunately I was able to coast to a stop in the parking lot.

10 Equipment problem of the 2019 Audi A6

Failure Date: 09/26/2022

Today, car showed electrical problem then leading to steering problem, transmission problem, all sensors shutting off, all thro flashing one by one alarms and messages on dash and then coming to a complete halt. It would not allow me to come out and locked me in. I could see that the locks were kicking in so took a micro second gap between unlock and auto lock to get out of the car forcefully. I have had situations when in traffic light, the car wouldn’t move back from neutral to drive unless I tried couple of times, but this was horrible incident. Now taking it to service to see what they are going to say, not always super helpful.

11 Equipment problem of the 2018 Audi A6

Failure Date: 02/14/2022

While driving at 60mph on the freeway, the glass sunroof on my 2018 Audi A6 randomly exploded/shattered. Glass shards flew into the cabin. There was no apparent “rock” or outside influence on the glass to cause it to shatter. The remaining glass remnants on the sunroof were angled up as if to suggest an explosion.

12 Equipment problem of the 2013 Audi A6

Failure Date: 09/24/2021

I start getting coolant leak and it was at Audi dealership. Nothing was done just today get biger leak and took to shop and they say my water pump is broken. I think this is part of Audi A6 2013 water oump problems. Need to fix it.

13 Equipment problem of the 2017 Audi A6

Failure Date: 07/12/2021

Car loss power and turned off while turning at an intersection. Had to stop, place in parking and restart the car with power switch.

14 Equipment problem of the 2013 Audi A6

Failure Date: 06/21/2021

Steering rack assist has a recall for my car because my steering locked up. Audi replaced the recall part two times. The first didnt work after the second time it works but now they cant reset the check engine lights, tpms, steering fault do not drive it says, ecs fualt, stability fault, child safety lock fault etc. Dealer told they did everything they could even flew in an Audi engineer still cant reset anything and that they exceeded the cars value in man hours to figure out what is the issue. Now they tell me the car is drivable but my question is, is it safe for me to accept it like that and risk something happening while driving and the steering locking up or any other problems that may arise but I wouldn"t know because of the other alarms may override the current alarm that may pop up. My insurance said they wouldnt accept the car back in that condition because its a recall issue related and that Audi needs to address this but in just getting the run around. My car has been at the dealer for about 6 months trying to figure it out. Now they tell me "you brought your car because steering was locked up wasnt able to drive and now the car is drivable and the only thing we cant clear are the alarms that I mentioned above but it is drivable its just like an oil change alarm that you do the oil change but we just cant reset it so its kinda the same thing" they told me that and I was like okay. No is not the same I said, my question is is this even safe to accept and risk something happen and get into an accident because of the steering lock up. Now they wont even take my wife Audi because has the same recall that needs to be replaced. The only way they replace it is till it happens. So they waiting for my wifes car to lock up while driving and not have control of car and crash especially if my kids are with her because she takes them to school. What do I do please help? I also requested the total estimate to see how much I owe and they will not send it to me.

15 Equipment problem of the 2020 Audi A6

Failure Date: 04/18/2021

This issue has been happening since I got the car and is getting worse by the day. The car only has about 11,000 miles and I bought it when it had almost 10,000 miles. Something in the dashboard and behind the instrument panels (a/c controls and user screens) makes a lot of vibration noises/sounds as the car is slowly accelerated or as we drive over some uneven road. It seems like there is something loose. And this is getting worse by the day. When you pay a top price for a luxury car like Audi you expect that the care is built solid and not with cheap parts. . . It is very disappointing to see that a luxury car like Audi A6 will make these type of noises when the car is practically brand new.

16 Equipment problem of the 2012 Audi A6

Failure Date: 02/23/2021

I took my vehicle to repair for 2 recalls on 2/22/21, the next day 2/23/21 they called me telling me that I have to pay $ 550. 00 for the repair. According to downtown Audi tech the ecu of my vehicle is defective because they cannot communicate with the vehicle's computer, before taking the vehicle to repair the recalls it was in good condition since I changed the oil and connected my scanner to reset the maintenance message on the vehicle dashboard. This is absurd that they want to scam their customers. Now they want to give me the vehicle without repairing the recalls and with lights on on the dashboard of my vehicle, this is not ethical or professional.

18 Equipment problem of the 2019 Audi A6

Failure Date: 07/15/2020

I have a 2019 A6 3. 0t quattro with a safety issue when exiting the driver door while auto is in park with engine running. I brought this to the attention of the dealer on 15 July with Audi tech service suggesting to replace door latch and stating vehicle operates "normally as designed" when compared to similar vehicle. The safety issue still exists with having to pull door latch two, three and four times to exit the auto and occasionally having to kill the engine to exit. This is not normal. Three witnesses from the dealership verified my struggling to exit my auto while in park. I was told the 2019 A6s and a8s have this issue and the a8 on the dealership floor is worse than mine. I contacted Audi care advocate line on 27 July and a case # was created. Since then I have contacted several times with absolutely no response. My Audi dealership said no Audi contact was made to them, as I was led to believe would take place by the advocate. As a 30+ year hugely positive Audi customer with my present A6 as my 11th Audi you can imagine my disappointment in Audi's lack of concern and lack of response. I have since posted on the Audi USA facebook and was immediately asked to pm them. I believe the driver door has a "design flaw" which causes an issue with the need to exit in an emergency. Audi is refusing to take responsibility and has claimed to have "documented" my "sentiments and feedback". Audi corporate is ignoring and dismissing what seems to be a horrific new design flaw. Very scary!!.

19 Equipment problem of the 2019 Audi A6

Failure Date: 04/30/2020

The backup camera intermittently does not engage, instead only displaying the stock car silhouette, without any camera footage of the current surroundings. This prevents the driver from being able to see anything behind the car and presents a safety hazard when backing up. It presents an additional distraction hazard because it requires the driver to either manually engage the camera using the vehicle's mmi, or to put the car in another gear and then again in reverse to engage the camera. After multiple unsuccessful attempts to have the dealership find and fix the problem over three years, I was told a software update was performed, which is the same fix for a current recall for other models with the same problem. I have only had the car back from the dealership for a week now, but I have not yet experienced the problem with the backup camera.

20 Equipment problem of the 2013 Audi A6

Failure Date: 08/20/2018

I am currently the owner of a 2013 Audi A6. I have run into some significant difficulties trying to sell my car because of two recalls, recall 74d5 (passenger occupant detection system) and recall 19n4 (overheating electric coolant pump) that have been issued for my car. When I have had the car appraised at my local Audi dealership and at two prominent used car dealerships, all of the estimates were much lower ($3,000-$6,000) than the value of the car according to kelley blue book. The representatives mentioned that they are unable to sell this particular vehicle because it has recalls for which a repair is not yet available. Thus, the car must be sent directly to auction. It is not fair that I am now losing money on my vehicle because of the negligence of the car manufacturer and because of defects in their design. I am concerned about the safety of the vehicle. The recall notice clearly states that the passenger occupant detection system may malfunction, and if this occurs, do not allow anyone to use the front passenger seatin this situation, a front passenger seat occupant risks injury in a crash because a malfunctioning pods system may not make the correct airbag deployment decision for the type of occupant seated there. the recall for the coolant pump states that a short circuit or overheating within the electric coolant pump may lead to a vehicle fire. I feel fearful about using the car, especially since there is no repair available. It is an inconvenience to not be able to use the front passenger seat without fear that there may be a malfunction and/or to use the car in general based on the possibility of an electric fire. I am not sure of the proper course of action to rectify this matter, but I would like to be able to sell this vehicle at a fair price so I can set my mind at ease about the personal safety of those who occupy the car.

22 Equipment problem of the 2016 Audi A6

Failure Date: 07/01/2018

Vehicle has shut off while driving. Vehicle has shut off while at a stop light; would not immediately restart. Fiddled with the gears, put in park. Got vehicle to start after about 30-60 seconds. 30-60 seconds is a significant amount of time at a stop light that has just turned green. This has happened 3 times. Enter vehicle; start; put in reverse or drive to exit my driveway; car has shut off while attempting to exit driveway, 4 times; warning/prompting me to put it in park. Brakes or rotors make a scratching noise; notice if driving close to a wall or median (to reflect the sound) when windows are down. Have had brakes checked by dealer multiple times and have been told they were fine. However, they make a constant noise. My parking sensor has been stuck in a position that makes vehicle think the passenger side front bumper is in contact with something. Will usually go back to normal by the next day. This has happened twice.

Between 35 and 60 mph I heard a noise from the front of the vehicle, it is a buzzing, humming, whistling, whining sound. After several trips to the car repair shop, I was referred to tire shop. After 3 trips to the tire shop, tire balance and after buying all new tires and alignment. It was recommended that I replace the front wheel bearings. I went home and did some research on the internet I found that I may have faulty wheel bearing or bearings. There is a service bulletin on Audi years 2009-2016 cars. This is due to a faulty wheel bearing or bearings. Corrective action: dealers will replace affected wheel bearings. I contacted the dealer and they said they can replace for a fee. There is obviously enough vehicles affected, this should be a recall and there should not be a fee.

26 Equipment problem of the 2006 Audi A6

Failure Date: 02/02/2018

At 150k miles, experienced no crank, no start. Tow to dealer, and I had already done some triage. They did 2 hrs of troubleshooting problems that were not even related, so I took the car back. Found a trust worthy mechanic and his diag suggested the scm burned out taking the pcm and ecm along with it. The cost would have been in the $6000 range as he stated a %40 failure rate after 150k in alldata. He also said, if I repair it, I need to replace the steering column as well because I will just have issues down the road if I dont. The car also had a slow oil leak. The place where I bought the car said the repair is not worth the cost, so that factored into my decision not to invest in repairs. The oil leak was slow and I never had to top off the oil, but it was significant enough to know it was an issue. That leak was present after 80k miles. So I had to make the unfortunate decision not to invest any money into an attempted fix. I was at the gas station, had just filled up the gas tank, had new struts, new battery and prior to it not starting, the car was running so really good. It looked great and people often thought it was way newer than it was. There was way to much value in the car to trash it, but various parties only offered $200 to scrap it. This is a high end car for Audi and I cant believe they are allowed to implement a kill switch after 150k miles. I was planning on keeping that car for a long time. Now unemployed, I have to buy a car I cant afford.

27 Equipment problem of the 2012 Audi A6

Failure Date: 01/31/2018

My mil ( malfunction indicator lamp ) came on, in my Audi A6 2012 on 1/21/18. I made an appointment with my Audi dealership on 1/31/18. I was informed that my trans coolant valve was leaking into a wiring harness. They replaced my n509 valve and wiring connector. I found a technical service bulletin regarding this problem in my car as well as other Audi models. There was a recall for this in Audi a8 2010-2013. ( I have included these in the files that I have uploaded. ) the affected a8 vehicles have a coolant valve leak allowing coolant to enter the engine control module causing a loss of power or the engine to stall. A vehicle stall increases the risk of a crash. I had my car repaired as my wife drives this car and I certainly did not want the car to stall and possibly have a crash. It seems to me that the Audi A6 2012 should also be included in this recall. If any additional information is needed, please contact me.

28 Equipment problem of the 2015 Audi A6

Failure Date: 01/02/2018

On the highway, my A6 turned perpendicular and was hit by a semi truck. Speaking with the Audi representatives they did not understand how this could happen. Is there a defect that would allow the car with a quattro system to make such a dramatic turn travelling at 60 miles an hour?.

29 Equipment problem of the 2013 Audi A6

Failure Date: 10/07/2017

When I was driving, we smelled burning of rubber but thought that it must be from outside. However after driving of another 3-4 miles, suddenly smoke started to come out from air vent mainly on driver and windshield side inside of cabin. I stopped car and turned off. I took it to nearby garage and they checked any leakage of fluid that can cause burning but can't find it which indicates that problem of short circuit and may need to research more. In the night, when I tried to turn cabin lights on, it didn't work which now clearly shows that it's incident of short circuit that cause inside lights dome, reading and other lights off. I was lucky that it didn't caught fire and burned down my car. However this needs to be investigated. I will appointment with dealer and see if I can get pictures or documentation on the details.

32 Equipment problem of the 2012 Audi A6

Failure Date: 11/15/2016

Audi 2012 A6 #1 I tried to fuel my car and the access door to the gas cap would not open in the cold weather of November 2016. I tried the emergency pull cord in my trunk and that wouldn't unlock the access door either? the next thing I did was drive home praying that I would not run out of fuel. I parked my car in my warm garage and after about an hour and half I banged on the access door a number of times and it finally popped open. There was no evidence of ice or water that would have prevented the door from opening. . #2 this failure happened at least 3 or 4 times before I had to bring my car to my dealer to have them get the access door unlocked. #3 the dealer had to order the door lock part and replace the access door lock which when they finished cost me a ridiculous $250. 00! when I called Audi customer advocate, she danced around my question of how much should that repair cost me. I asked the advocate how much would Audi have paid the dealer if my car was still under warranty and they wouldn't volunteer that info either. In closing, I find this to be a serious defect and it can endanger lives if a woman with children should run out of fuel and have no way of opening the access door. Btw, I have the defective lock and there is no way that you can get the lock to open with the pull cord. When I spoke with the service rep at the dealership, she admitted that this gas door lock malfunctions especially in cold weather. How can a manufacturer get away with installing an undependable fuel access door lock and not even have an emergency pull cord that will open the door no matter how hard you pull on it?.

33 Equipment problem of the 2014 Audi A6

Failure Date: 07/20/2016

At 5pm on July 20, 2016 I drove my A6 to the home of my granddaughters friend, they are both 15 yrs. Old and were in the car at the time, to drop her off . I pulled into the driveway and when I put the car into park it lunged, at a fast rate, forward smashing into a railroad tie retaining wall and then flew into reverse. During this entire time my foot was on the brake and the shift was in park. As this was happening there was also a loud grinding noise coming from the car. So loud that 2 neighbors came running out of their separate houses. I pulled the emergency brake lever and the car stopped. It had gone backwards down the driveway, about 10 to 15 feet, into the street and back over a curb at such a rate that the back tire blew out. It came to a stop on the lawn just missing a tree trunk by a foot. The car was towed by an Audi dealer and a week later Audi sent an engineer from auburn hills, mi to look at it. They said there's nothing wrong with it. The police were called to the scene and I have a police report. The policeman drove the vehicle off the lawn and he also heard a grinding noise. I will not drive this vehicle again. It is a death trap. I believe something went wrong with either the computer or some other electronic part. The car acted completely on it's own. My husband and I have had at least 8 to 10 Audi's over the years and nothing like this has ever happened to us before. We've also had many other types of vehicles. What can we do?.
