2 Seats problem of the 2016 Audi A6

Failure Date: 08/07/2018

My smallish sized purse slipped off the passenger seat and wedged between the seat and the floor board below the door, landing on the electronic seat controls that recline the passenger seat. It reclined the back while I was driving on a bridge and couldn't pull over or stop, smashing my grandson's legs, who was in his car seat behind the passenger seat. He was screaming and there was no way for me to reach the controls to stop the empty seat from reclining, squishing him into his car seat ! luckily, it didn't break both of his legs, but it could easily have done that if he'd been a little bigger. As it was he was terrified and so traumatized, I'm not sure I'll ever get him back in this car. There should be controls that can't accidentally be engaged or some kind of reachable control from the driver's seat.

3 Seats problem of the 2013 Audi A6

Failure Date: 07/19/2018

The passenger airbag sensor goes off and on while I'm driving, even when the seat is empty. I know there is a recall on this, but the dealership is telling me my car isn't covered. I fall under the year and make of the recall, why isn't my car covered?.

4 Seats problem of the 2012 Audi A6

Failure Date: 05/01/2017

The passenger airbag is not turned on when a passenger sits in the seat. This means the airbag will not be deployed in the event of an accident. Took the car to the dealer, they indicated that the occupant detection sensor located in the seat was not working and needed to be replaced. My car is only 5 years old and has 67,000 miles. As this is a significant safety hazard which could lead to severe injuries or death, and given the car's relative low mileage, I do not understand how the manufacturer does not warranty this for a longer period of time. I was told that if I chose to have the dealer replace the seat sensor, it would cost me >$1,700.

The contact owns a 2013 Audi A6. The contact stated that the passenger side air bag sensor periodically disengaged and the air bag warning indicator dimmed when the passenger seat was occupied. The vehicle was taken to Audi shrewsbury (780 boston turnpike, shrewsbury, MA 01545, phone number: (888) 699-9619) where it was diagnosed that the front passenger seat needed to be removed to install a new seat sensor. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer stated that the contact would have to pay out of pocket for the repair. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

7 Seats problem of the 2013 Audi A6

Failure Date: 03/05/2016

Audi replaced pods module in front passenger's seat, which monitors if there is an occupant in the seat and this triggers the airbag activation. After this replacement my front passenger seat sensor started malfunctioning. It seems to be working fine when my husband sits there (about 170 lb. ), but it would not function when I was occupying the seat (about 128 lb. ). The dealer made two more attempts to correct the issue. They finally asked me to try the seat without wearing my long coat in which case the sensor seemed to work correctly. The final conclusion was that in order for the airbag sensor to activate, lighter passengers need to take their long coats off. This is a laughable suggestion that airbag function is contingent on the type of coat the passenger is wearing. I contacted Audi USA customer service. They in turn contacted the dealership and came back to me with the same conclusion that the seat performs up to manufacturer's standards. I asked where in the owner's manual there is a note that the passengers must not wear long coats in order for crucial safety feature such as airbag to function correctly. I also asked repeatedly to explain to me why this problem only presented itself after the recalled part was replaced, to no avail. At this point Audi refuses to take necessary steps to fix the problem which they created. Audi should be held liable for abandoning the customer when there is a potentially serious safety issue involved.

8 Seats problem of the 2001 Audi A6

Failure Date: 12/01/2010

I have a 2001 Audi A6. The passenger seat behind the driver was on a low heated setting. A blanket was over the top. After warming up the car noticed a burning smell and the seat was on fire. It burned a hole all the way through to the coils and through the blanket. I will be contacting Audi USA about this but feel this is a severe safety issue with the vehicle as my son's car seat is on the other side. So far the dealership will do nothing and the car was out of warranty long ago.

10 Seats problem of the 2004 Audi A6

Failure Date: 12/05/2009

I filed a complaint about my 2004 Audi A6 in Dec of 2009. I reported that my back passenger seat had almost caught fire, and was burnt. Both my seat cushion and upper back cushion were burned. At the time I had not contacted Audi, yet filed a complaint, because I felt and still do that this was a major safety hazard. Since my last complaint I did contact both my dealership (roth Audi in erie, PA) and Audi headquarters aka: Audi customer relations. They were very willing to work with me, seemed extremely concerned and said not to worry because I still had a warranty left on my car. Well after the car returned home from the dealership they only fixed half of the problem! the dealership said Audi told them to replace the bottom cushion only. The dealership painted over the top cushion and I found this out after I began wiping my seat, because I thought I had smudge marks on it. . . Nope paint was coming off and could see the burned seat underneath the paint. I called Audi back, and they had me take it back to the dealer to be assessed again. After 6 days or so the person I had been dealing with from Audi customer relations called to say we cant replace that part of the seat because they found no defect in the heating element. So in essence, they only did half of their job since the seat burned from one incident! I have since contacted the ftc, and the attorney general this issue. I will not stop there if I do not get this resolved. The entire seat should have been covered under the warranty. Considering vw recalled many of their cars for the same reason, and Audi is owned by vw I would think they would be a bit more concerned about their customers. I have viewed many forums, and found there were a lot of complaints similar to mine with regards to the heated seating either catching on fire of burning the seat. I'd like to know if NHTSA is honestly looking into this? thank you.
