Tank Assembly Problems of Audi A6 - part 2

I think when Audi has recalls, they should have parts at dealers, currently dealers are unable to implement recalls that are several months old. In addition, the fuel guages are inaccurate and they've yet to issue a recall and provide appropriate parts to dealers for repairs.

Fuel gauge does not register the correct amount of fuel, causing the driver to think more fuel is in the tank when, in reality, the tank is empty. Problem was reported to the dealership. Dealer stated that the unit is being redesigned and that a new unit would be installed in vehicle. Please provide any further information.

Fuel gauge misreads the amount of fuel in the vehicle . Dealer has been notified.

Recall 00v137 was completed, however 4 months later the fuel sending units failed again, the vehicle has had 6 attempts to correct the problem, the consumer ran out of gas once on a freeway because of the faulty fuel gauge.

When pumping vehicle with gas it will spill out of vehicle when it is supposed to stop once it's full. This has happend at two different gas stations. Ak.

Gas guage red half full when tank empty. Car lost power when it ran out of gas on a remote section of highway causing an unsafe condition. Manufacturer aparantly was aware of defects in the electrical unit in the gas tank caused by fuel additives in the us. Notice should have been given to owners, even if no recall was planned as the units seem to fail intermitently. Company appears to be trying to ignore a problem they could fix with one mailing to its customers. . .

Becasue the fuel indicator needle does not register the correct amount of fuel, the vehicle ran out of fuel. Owner had the same problem in December of 1998. The problem has not been corrected. The part to correct this problem is being redesigned.

Fuel gauge doesn't work, and the consumer can't determine how much fuel is in vehicle. Dealer can't determine the cause of the problem.

Automobile has run out of gas on 3 separate occasions with fuel gauge displaying anywhere from 1/4 to 3/4 level. Additionally, computer shows anywhere from 70 to 280 miles left until empty. I have been left stranded on the highway on these occasions - twice having to walk to the nearest gas station in terrible weather, once a tow service halped me on the taconic state parkway. Audi replaced all 3 "sending units" on Jan 26, 1999 and October 15, 1999. Fuel gauge/sending units have again malfunctioned- I. E. After driving 300 miles on 1 tank of gas, gauge at the 3/4 full level, computer shows 375 miles to empty- an even greater number than previously shown. Contacted both dealership(new country Audi) and Audi of America inc. I was advised that they are aware of the problem, 3 out of 5 Audi A6's have the problem and they do not know when the parts necessary to fix the problem will be available.

Since purchase of vehicle has noticed fuel gauge not working properly. It reads full even when tank is empty. Contacted dealer and manufacturer, and they are not able to get the part.

1998 Audi A6 fuel tank started leaking at the seams. The independent mechanic found no damage to the tank. Garage full of gas fumes and fuel was dripping under the car.

2003 Audi A6. Consumer writes in regards to fuel level sensor damaged due to recall repair the consumer stated he complied with the recall and took his vehicle to the Audi dealer. The dealer filled the gas tank; in accord with the letter from Audi. Unfortunately, as the consumer drove the 70 miles back home, the fuel level decreased to less that 1/4 and the warning light came on. Since then, the warning light comes on and goes off without regard to how much fuel is in the tank. The consumer also stated he smelled gasoline particularly in the morning time when he went to his garage. He stated he was not able to rely on the fuel gauge because it sometimes showed full when it was less than 1/4 of a tank. The consumer stated he has ran out of gas twice, on a country road in mid-winter. After making dozens of frustrating calls to Audi, they finally arranged to have the problem looked at. The dealer stated they didn't have the part they needed to repair the defect and they would call when the part arrived. They estimated the repair at $483. 64. The consumer stated he still has not heard from the dealer. The consumer stated he took his vehicle to the dealer with no fuel gauge problems and it was returned to him with problems.

Consumer received recall #lh, however was informed that an appointment could not be made until parts came, when consumer attempted to make an appointment when parts became available, delaer stated no appointmets were available at that time, consumer still has not heard from dealer which has already been two weeks and vehicle has not been repaired.

Gas tank sensors failed, unable to determine gas volume. Mjs.

Consumer received repairs on vehicle due to recall 00v137, consumer is requesting reimbursement for rental expenses, now that the recall kit has been installed, the problems are still occurring.

Air pressure builds up inside the gas tank causing gasoline to spray out of the tank onto the consumer, vehicle, and ground, the gas will continue to spray out under pressure after the nozzle is removed from the tank filler neck.

Consumer was unable to have recall 00v-137 for the fuel tank performed due to lack of parts, four months have passed and parts are still not available. Nlm.

The fuel gauge malfunction indicating full while the tank was empty. Yh.

Consumer is not able to have the recall (00v-137) performed due to lack of parts, consumer has stalled on the highway due to defective fuel tank assembly system.
