37 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2014 Audi A8

Failure Date: 05/25/2021

For technician report, go https://getpe. Co/4zt0j2 while driving on a major central NJ highway, slowing to exit, the vehicle shuddered and stalled in lane. The engine epc light came on and a message to put the car in park to start the engine followed. This made it impossible to move the car off the road. It was necessary to stand behind the vehicle and wave traffic around. A passerby was able to get the car started and moved it off the exit and to a service road shoulder. The car shuddered and died again. Traffic was heavy and the situation was quite dangerous. The car was taken to the dealer. The turbocharger impeller shaft and fins were damage. Please see above link. Also, please see Audi technical bulletin 2044640. This is not a unique event.

38 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2014 Audi A8

Failure Date: 05/19/2021

Driving on extended highway - a few hours - and complete engine failure at an exit. Unsafe as the engine died in the middle of the road. Took multiple attempts to move the vehicle. Blocked traffic and had to have police assist with the physical pushing of the vehicle to a safe place. Already expended $700 plus on towing to an Audi dealer. Turbo failure which I have now learned is very common on this vehicle. Likely failure point is a oil screen, which Audi has known about for probably a decade. Incredible that such a safety issue has not been resolved. Estimate for the repair is $11,000. Vehicle has been perfectly maintained and only 72,000 miles - mostly highway. This is clearly a safety issue that Audi has failed to proactively address. I understand that the oil screen has been redesigned - whether it solves the problem is an open question.

39 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Audi A8

Failure Date: 05/02/2021

Car stalled in left turn lane. Restarted with difficulty, and loss of power. No warning lights. Diagnosed by dealer to be failed twin turbochargers. 45688 miles. Replaced under extended warranty. Dangerous as car stalled in an intersection with no prior warning.

40 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Audi A8

Failure Date: 04/15/2021

The stock turbo when right in the middle of traffic at 60,000 miles. Almost died in traffic as the car would not move out of the road. This is not exclusive to A8 but to all the Audi cars with the 4. 0t engine across many vehicle years. An oem turbo should last 150k-200k miles (half that if aftermarket). Cost $10k to replace.

41 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Audi A8

Failure Date: 04/01/2021

The 2017 A8l 4. 0t is equipped with a engine start-stop system that switches off the engine when the car is motionless, to save fuel. The system is supposed to restart the engine immediately when the brake is released. This system malfunctions routinely and refuses to restart, leaving me with an immobile car at stoplights and intersections, putting me and my family at risk. This safety hazard has caused two accidents. In the first incident, I parked in my spot and got out of the car. The Audi rolled backward and collided with the car parked behind (insurance claim filed). In the other incident, I was stopped at an intersection, at an incline. The car failed to restart when I took my foot off the brake and rolled back, colliding with the truck behind me. My rear bumper was damaged, truck was not damaged. The car was inspected multiple times, and problem was reproduced by the Audi dealer. They attempted fixes, but failed to solve the problem. No warning lights or message appeared to alert me to this start-stop system failure.

42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 Audi A8

Failure Date: 03/21/2021

Recall for turbo internals, but nothing done to remedy problem . Second issue in leaking suspension parts, which the dealership let problem continue, until warranty up.

43 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Audi A8

Failure Date: 02/27/2021

After getting off the highway, the engine just quit. Fortunately we were at a stop sign at the end of the off-ramp. There was no warning and we were not able to restart the car to move it out of traffic nor could we shift into neutral. Had this happened a few minutes earlier, we would have been traveling at 70 mph. Fortunately, my son was driving, because at my age had this happened at highway speed, there is no way I could have steered it to safety without power steering. I know that this is not the first incident of this happening to this model car. It should be a safety recall before someone gets killed because of this problem. It's a shame that Audi is forcing its customers to cover the cost of this safety issue.

44 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 Audi A8

Failure Date: 08/03/2020

I own a 2019 Audi A8 with 2000 miles on it. This nearly has caused me accidents and other Audi A8 owners are also voicing complaints. The dealer is aware of it but said Audi engineers will not address it. After coming to a stop, upon pressing the accelerator the vehicles does not respond for three or four seconds and then abruptly takes off. There is a major hesitation and can be dangerous if you are pulling out in an intersection with traffic approaching. After the 3-4 second delay, it then dangerously speeds ahead. This has nothing to do with the on/off switch as it happens in all settings. There is something wrong with the throttle and delay and it will cause accidents. Please see online with Audi owners and it needs to be addressed ASAP. The dealer has not solution. This applies to all settings. It does not matter if you go straight, left or right. Please help us save lives.

45 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 Audi A8

Failure Date: 03/29/2020

I was driving on the highway, the vehicle epc light came on. Vehicle began to run rough, and shortly after died out completely. Luckily there was no one behind me when the car died, and that I was in the right lane and was able to limp onto the shoulder. Waited for tow truck. Had car towed to dealer where a faulty turbocharger was diagnosed as the reason for vehicle breaking down.

47 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 Audi A8

Failure Date: 11/13/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2008 Audi A8. While the vehicle was in use, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to Audi pittsburgh (2050 liberty Ave, pittsburgh, PA 15222, (412) 245-4200) where it was diagnosed that the massive air flow sensors failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was replaced, but the failure recurred multiple times with an abnormal vacuum noise coming from the engine. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 119,000.

48 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2014 Audi A8

Failure Date: 11/02/2019

I was driving my car and had just crossed a track, when out of no where with no warning my car stopped. My wheel started tightening and I couldn't press on the brakes. Thanks goodness I didnt have a car behind me because the car just lost all power. I couldn't even steer the car to the side of the road. Try to restart the vehicle because I was dumb minded to what was going on, but the car would not restart. I had to call a wrecker to come get me and the car. Now picture me, a woman alone, in the road at10:30 at night, waiting for a wrecker to come get my beautiful, luxury car with just 69,000 miles and regular maintenance up keep. I towed the car to an Audi dealership to find out that the turbos went out on the car and warranty want cover this $11,071 bill. Purchased this car at 39,000 miles and paid a pretty penny, still owe a pretty penny on this vehicle and now I have to pay this huge repair bill on top of a huge car note. Btw, car still at shop, still not running unless the turbos are replace. This is not even the engine on the car and it cost this expensive.

51 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 Audi A8

Failure Date: 03/25/2019

I experienced the engine stall/turbo failure as described in NHTSA action number pe21009. I have all of the supporting documents regarding this turbo failure. Volkswagen auto group had previously issued a voluntary TSB regarding this known design shortcoming in the turbo system of the 4. 0t engine. The oil screens that filter the turbo cooling were engineered with a mesh that was too fine. This mesh eventually clogged and severed oil flow to the turbo units, causing failure. There is discussion of this design shortcoming in every single Audi online group, so much so, that when new members join the owners facebook group, they are nearly all immediately warned to change their oil screens. The concept that I was without a vehicle for months as well as having to pay for this repair out of pocket still shocks me - I had several heated calls with the Audi warranty headquarters and an incident at the dealership that required retraining of the service staff. Needless to say, this turbo failure on my vehicle was an absolute nightmare. I’d be more than happy to share all of my documents and story with the nhtsb. Thank you.

52 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 Audi A8

Failure Date: 03/17/2019

After pulling off of the PA turnpike the idle became rough and the car cut off and wouldn't start. Had it towed to reading(PA) Audi and the diagnosis was failed turbos.

53 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 Audi A8

Failure Date: 03/04/2019

My vehicle experienced catastrophic failure related to the following Audi TSB & NHTSA documented bulletins and complaints: NHTSA 1-888-327-4236 NHTSA id 10118418 TSB id a211724 2044640 & TSB 2040644/10 for replacement of the oil separator - $254 (with free shipping) from Audiusaparts. Com. You will want part number 079-103-542-e. Amidst the numerous complaints from other Audi owners the dealer is unwilling to be accountable for the damages nor willing to perform the needed repairs when the vehicle is under factory warranty. This places the burden on the vehicle owner (excess of $11,000 of repairs) to experience the failure and be placed in harms way wherever the vehicle should be at that time. My vehicle at this time was in motion in city driving forcing me to pull over unexpectedly off the road. I am asking to to hold Audi of America accountable for this known documented issue and make repairs prior to the failure firstly and secondly covering the expenses related to the failure for my vehicle after the vehicle is out of warranty for failure to do so initially.

54 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 Audi A8

Failure Date: 02/03/2019

Takata recall coolant failer and motor.

55 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2012 Audi A8

Failure Date: 10/29/2018

I've recently had to replace both high pressure fuel pumps and cam followers at cost to myself even though Audi extended the warranty due to premature failures on several Audis. Apparently my VIN wasn't in the list . I tried calling aoa for any assistance but was told because I only own one(apparently brand loyalty means buying 2 at a time) and I bought it from an independent dealer there was nothing they could do. I get all my work done at the local Audi dealer. Since then I have also had to replace my windshield due to the seals failing and leaving me with a water fall in my car(I seen several people affected in forums). Not to mention the short in my mmi screen and tail light(some of the leds are out and the extended warranty I had refused to cover) that needs to be fixed but has to be put on hold due to my thermostat failing. I only have 113,950 miles and have been getting regular service. I have had many cars over the years and never had this many problems. Between the problems I'm having and the comments made by Audi of America this may be my first and last Audi.

56 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 Audi A8

Failure Date: 09/12/2018

On the afternoon of September 12, 2018, my 2013 Audi A8l 4. 0t started with somewhat of a rough idle, but no warning lights or error codes were present on the dashboard. I owned the car for approximately 18 months at that point, and this had never happened before. As soon as I started to drive, the tachometer became steady and there were no other indications anything was wrong, even stopping at traffic lights the problem did no persist nor were there any indications anything was wrong. Once back in spartanburg, the car stalled while slowing down for a traffic light. The engine cut off completely, the steering became very rigid, and the check engine light turned on. I was able to coast to a stop and turn on my hazard lights, and then tried to restart the car to no avail. The engine would turn over, but the car would not start. Another car stopped behind me, and we were able to push the car onto the grassy shoulder out of traffic, which was dangerous in itself but safer than sitting in the middle of a busy road. I had the car towed to steve white Audi in greenville, SC. Once there, they informed me that the error codes indicated that both turbo's failed simultaneously and the failure of those turbos caused the first set of downstream catalytic converters to fail also. See attached repair report and payment receipt = $10,975. 57 for the replacement parts and labor ($12,070. 85 including the 115,000 mile service). Once they told me the cost of the repair, I called Volkswagen USA corporate headquarters to ask if there were any pending recalls for the turbos. Multiple message boards and facebook pages go into detail about how the turbos are a known point of failure on the 4. 0t cars, and the astronomical cost to replace them. I was informed by Volkswagen that there were no pending recalls, and that I would have to pay for the repairs out of pocket, which I did.

57 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Audi A8
